The Rover Coupe, the Tomcat, is always trouble free and only needs minor tinkering to get its GAZ suspension to the right height and does deserve some new wheels for its good behaviour!

Sneaking bits of car into the kitchen - so true! Yes, aerosol paint does go off - even if old paint goes on well, the finish won't last as long as with fresh paint. When I lowered my Skoda I found an unexpected issue - I kept banging my head when I got in!. Thank you for this morning's viewing :-)

The Cosmos wheels are my favourite Rover wheels. They were also fitted to the Rover 45 Saloon as a special edition if I remember correctly. Its looking fantastic!

Some advice from a sprayer,when using rattle cans put them in hot water first to help the expellents,comes out nice and wide and smooth..

Wasn’t sure about the new wheels at first as usually am a stickler for the factory original look, but I actually think they suit the car really well. The slightly more rounded jelly mould look of them is very appropriate for the more rounded car designs of that era, so in a way they almost seem to suit the car’s age more than the previous one. Looking forward to more updates on the convertible too!

Great video, Matt. I do like the new wheels. Very sharp. Definitely need 4 new tyres though. Mismatched on the same end is not good at all. I don't know about there, but here the specification is to replace tyres after 5 years of use. The carcass gets weakened by the heat/cool cycles.

We dont have age limits here, but probably should as most people have no idea they go bad over time. Although I know they are old and need to be changed a lot of people would just keep going with them

Love the new wheels, really suits the Coupe, makes it look far more planted and aggressive. I reckon if you'd have cleaned the nozzle on the rattle can with a bit of thinners and stuck the can in hot water for a couple of mins it would have sprayed it's contents rather than spitting it everywhere?

What size wheels are those? I did a similar excerise with my GT. I replaced the sofa castors 16' with some 17'. I had them refurbished and then added new nothing brand tyres. These can be seen on my latest video.

The car looks fantastic on the BRM wheels, much better than the old ones. And I think I agree on the ride height, just need to close the gap a little bit more, she’ll look spot on then. I had to giggle to myself when the spray paint was struggling to come out, and left awful runs on the bodywork 😂 reminds me of my dad who tried to touch up his wing with a rattle can, the spray was working fine, but he must have been holding the can about 3/4 inches from the bodywork, so it was running like crazy and dripping on the floor😂😂😂 that was 100% user error though!

i loved my tomcat. it had the vvc engine, and went like a scalded cat, it was in amethyst, head gasket killed it in the end. RIP R29 MFJ

I had a 1.6 Honda engine rover coupe a few years ago same colour as yours with them new wheels in my opinion they are better I miss mine I only got rid because the alarm kept going off through the day and early hours I should have had it done instead of getting rid

I'd be tempted if I had a Tomcat to put in the facelift R3 dash from 2004. Yeah it's cheaper and nastier in some ways but it far better looking. Cosmos looks far better. They were an option on 45s as well.

Wheels look good better than I thought they would look, little tip with aerosol paint, when you have finished spraying turn the can upside down and spray the paint out of the nozzle and internal pickup pipe, this will run clear after 3-4 seconds then next time it shouldn’t block up the nozzle like it has here. You need to talk to Nitrosilvia about rust treatment. Bilt Hmaber Hydrate 80 is the stuff. I got that tip from him! It really works

Matt, I would guess the nozzle on your spray can was partially blocked. The way to avoid this is, when you've finished spraying, turn the can upside down and spray until the paint stops coming out. Always worked for me! You can also try pulling the nozzle of and soaking it in thinners for a while.

Kenda are quite well known for making mountain bike tyres and they also make a selection of motorbike tyres. They are fairly well regarded, not sure about their car tyres though

Not sure which wheels suit best. Still a gorgeous car. Matt, you're video output is awesome, you can slow down a bit I'm sure. Burn out comes all too easily. I've taken two weeks of fiddling to drop the struts on my 145 to check the turrets. Sorry for reminding you about your's No rot at all but both inner wings need a patch of welding.

those wheels give it a fresh look as in my opinion the ones you took off date the car, whereas with the new wheels it takes six years off the clock and I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I saw it on a T - Y plate with those wheels.

Nice wheels I really like them on the BRM and the high spec 45 saloons. As you say the Coupe is quite wedgy and angular so not sure if they go or not, I think they do! By the way they don't come out the factory with lose chrome caps on the wheel nuts, its years worth of people being ham-fistedness when undoing the wheels nuts (socket not fully on etc). The same thing happens on Fords and Jeeps.

Hi Matt make sure those wheels have the same angle of chamfer as [I assume] the floating cone wheel nuts! Latter wheels fitted post 1995 can be different!

Even if not perfect, it will still be an improvement and I would be excited to see it return to the road. From memory 2 were reused and 2 were new - they test all the components and either replace everything if you want to pay for that or reuse parts still in tolerance if you want to keep costs down

It is so cool because it is a coupe looks amazing you should get an mk3 astra . In Deutschland it is called astra GT in the UK it is called astra SRI it is an amazing hot hatch of the era if not the best and don’t forget the gsi version
