Part 3
This was all filmed ages ago but i forgot to upload it. Part 3 or rover v8 engine rebuild and reassembly of the front timing cover, the water pump, oil pump and sump pan.
Next time (when i get round to it) will be the inlet manifold, injectors and plenum chamber.

Just been watching through your engine build videos with interest as I have to do mine on the p6 after finding it not to be as good as I thought 👍

Its always a surprise what you will find particularly with the v8's as they are super tolerant of abuse and can sound quite sweet and appear to perform ok, even if they are very worn inside.

@@nitrosilvia absolutely, Has good oil pressure but found the main bearings are worn. Is also quite sludgy so a good clean and rebuild should sort it out. Hopefully I don't find anything else too nasty when I strip it completely.

Nice work James. Amazing how the Rover is still basically a good old Yankee V8. I think I need to get a motor build under way. Mart.

Loving the videos, I really struggle with understanding manuals but watching somebody do it and explain is way easier. Can’t wait for the next vid, when that’s going to be so you know ? Thanks again

Hi bud, only just seen this. Next vid should be soon, but not so interesting, just inlet manifold going on etc.

I've not had great experience with using blue Hermatitie on pipe threads like that drain tap, it tends to wash out over time. Permatex do a good product which is designed for core plugs, threads etc which stands up way better.

I thought you would have a sandwich plate between the oil pump & filter for the oil cooler. Or does the VDP EFI not have one

I had to pay £10K to have an engine rebuilt thanks to over zealous use of sealant on the sump gasket. You really don't want bits of sealant floating round your oil ways, starving your engine of oil. My advice is apply a 2mm bead no more. Otherwise you're doing a top job there

You really want the rover one, like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384370753651?hash=item597e484073:g:y4YAAOSwcn9hMjy8 And after that if you can find a copy that isnt real stupid money, the des hammill rover v8 book is good www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184956973788?epid=219863502&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item2b104b72dc:g:2E8AAOSwdpBg-EHh&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAACoPYe5NmHp%252B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsS7UXID%252BRPOSNsnm8kYPghtEeyzK4%252BjOBk5IUZL5n3VBu%252Bojgj39EFDSDD8DrsX6LoHxkaetxVlHXAHbN4Iu45JdUQJuzbTt5KkbOva%252BnEcW77QzK%252BcoIICsOsss1dMvcxGPiveSiicezPWhpxyvz0Cn9kIwN48O6QX3lH0VISKyryKWwoJaIeLKL50d8QZ%252BtFVYvYycToOKfcLzabeVe9dLkWdZnFsmwljc8UCRKM7%252F3ZVZT5ZJJPV3hvu%252FzzuDf3MKtpua7qGJv7lvfaqufyEafU%252FAGq5P0KhYF7EBgnnkXaMt03LItLvAfbAEi20j8Fx1l5xNUmv79M3E3B%252F1h5Cu8sy4W3qT46PrvUtSJ%252FzxlxHVcn9tTwEf%252FkSDqqnv1AgMfSUclu6JHTti%252Fl3KgeZktJ0m5kzXVLB887Wss2CZAlJ09C%252FXeExte3HyVLxR9BUEzVnRuDtNJngYjMbZA%252BFl2IrhvtRQIE6johTcXOrq7uQ%252FTny3K26cambzd4HhaOxpE5yRWvaeLfU5ZhgRm%252FdLLr22sDH6Cjox%252FmQuRr13Ozy3L2VCgz900jrQN4F1eDRIxVigGAk4kGftxA%252B3MUvVQWOdNXyRxsDOwxIwlboNh%252BYSekdaSvdCxTcHAeOjJxdRqnXCC6M04lt9%252Bo35uUxkVlUppEnHINxvMBcCiDCMBuXabarYU3mNW53MPTGhchH880URFsQXC3f%252B3nuUFZjUNeP2NWZY%252Fk2NyFa1LTGG%252BVOxwxUW4J8MvxvYyqJLzDjqehmRHwHBKsfedIC6NbGdTs6KA226B9xv8wJHGkrw172d%252FbKZQrARS%252B30DuR2%252FHNh1RJWWtxXHjuVNXxWljsQ%253D%253D%7Cclp%3A2334524%7Ctkp%3ABFBM8L-Fo8Bf

Why do you feel the oil pump like that? Take it that doesn't harm the engine. What did they use in the factory's when originally building the engines??
@nitrosilvia
@nitrosilvia 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a real strange design of pump. Basically if there is no oil inside it cannot draw any oil up through the pick up strainer from the sump. You have to pack it with Vaseline to ‘prime’ the pump. Because Vaseline or similar petroleum jelly is petroleum based, it breaks down into the engine oil and does no harm. After the first 500-1000 miles running in, change the oil and it’s fine. Not sure what they did in factory, probably had a spec it way of priming them on the line.
