Cam Buchan - "rowing is a rowing sport" truly inspirational

If you’re feeling bold and have a sizable and unpopped blister, sterilize a threaded needle in alcohol and run it through, cutting the needle free and leaving the thread. The thread will continue to draw the moisture out until you pull it. Of course the feeling of the thread running across the raw skin underneath is uh exquisite. But this works and will leave it clean, dry and hopefully immediately calloused. It will look like the blister has whiskers.

Ah yes the whiskered blisters! They work though,!

I found that pre wrap tape is helpful for smoothing out 0-100 blisters

Watching this as I'm taping/bandaging my hands. Coming back from our off week did a number on them.

I remember in the 60s and 70s we used to drag a saw along the oar handle to roughen up the handle to “improve your grip”. Talk about blisters! Wow! Eventually the calluses took over and we were good, but you’re rowing much more than us collegiate oarsmen were. Great video.

Not sure how I manage to do it, but as soon as my hands get even a little bit wet the skin just starts to rip off immediately! doesn't even blister, just rips off like wet paper and bleeds🤷🏻♀️tape and antimicrobial silver gel are my best friends now lol!

Everyone's hands are different! Good that you've found something that's at least working a little for you!! #yamsquad

Try using lanolin or cocoa butter every day to keep your skin flexible and reduce blisters. The dead skin left from a blister is not a calus and has soft and sensitive new skin underneath. It takes me a few months to develop proper caluses each season.
@CameronBuchan5 жыл бұрын
Definitely right. True caluses won't form that quick but the methods described can help get the hands back in track quickly! Moisturising does wonders!

Thanks for the video Cam and thanks to the yamsquad for all of their tricks too. Cam, is there any chance that you might do another merch order for the shirt you have on? Love that shirt but bummed it's sold out. Also, have you ever considered yamsquad bandanas? I have three rough collies who erg every meter with me (affectionately dubbed the collie coxwain) and are out and about town with me. Bandanas for them (and me) would be great - ambassadors of posiivity, effort and motivation! Not sure if others would like them, but I bet Yam would look sharp in one!

For some reason I've been rowing for years and I never got blisters. I got tears and cuts but never blisters.

Hey Cam, does this information apply to blisters on your more 'private' areas?? Thanks in advance!
@sammitchell31815 жыл бұрын
Dom DuBoulay I think you need a doctor...
@CameronBuchan5 жыл бұрын
I probably wouldn't recommend that and yes like Sam said maybe a trip to the doctor might be best! I have been fortunate to not deal with those!

I remember I had jock itch my novice year and that shit hurt like a bitch but just keep the area dry and clean and you'll be fine.

In the Army, they injected the blisters with iodine. An excellent cure but made even the toughest squaddies cry....
@john-zf1yb3 жыл бұрын
What does that do?
@johnboyt27783 жыл бұрын
Basically it disinfects and dries it out somewhat quicker. The next day you can march on it again.
@john-zf1yb3 жыл бұрын
@@johnboyt2778 Is it worth it for the pain it causes?
@johnboyt27783 жыл бұрын
If you have to march on it again the next day, and the day after you have little choice.

So far I haven't gotten blisters. It makes me think I'm not working hard enough (?)
@CameronBuchan5 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Some people just don't get them!

Rub your hands with alcohol everyday.. Prevents most blisters.
