If using the 3D printer is like riding a bicycle, using a CNC machine feels like trying to pilot a plane. It’s incredibly complicated, detailed, and intimidating… but it doesn’t need to be.

its a kickstarter , the last one like this ( swissmak) stole all the investors money and walked away with 187,000 dollars and delivered zero units. I hope this doesnt end up the same

Hermle uses aluminium on their cnc mills, and those are probably one of the best machines money can buy. However I agree with you in this application

I would love this machine to make my aluminum and brass chess board pieces. But I still need a full size milling machine to make the 24"x24" board...

If I had the spare cash, I'd consider getting one but, not until after the second or maybe third iteration was released. Why? Generally speaking, it takes two or three iterations to work out all of the bugs that the designers missed in their rush to get their wares to market. Buying the first ones that are manufactured means that you're sort of like a guinea pig buyer whose complaints are used to make improvements. Still, it's a nice compact little package. With any luck they will be worry free right out the gate.

It's very difficult to bring out a quality product at an affordable cost for a new start-up in this niche. Hobbyists would be the main market and their spending power is fairly limited as the premium 3D printer market has proven. The other big market would be schools but they tend to go with established manufacturers. A small business would need something a bit more substantial and capable to be honest. I would buy a small Denford CNC lathe if I were in the market for something like this. It's tried , tested and available off the shelf from an established manufacturer and support, spares etc wouldn't be an issue.

20 micron precision on what material? Based on its size and weight its not particularly rigid, which is allways a problem. the animation also showed that lead screws are used compared to ball screws which have more play. The most expencive part here is the enclosure.... should focus more on actual usefulness of the machine

Someone will buy one of these, struggle with the programming and tool setting, crash it a few times, then he'll crash it so hard that it's going to take some serious money to fix. Then they'll realize that they can't do much with it and just give up.

As an older professional machinist that had to learn cnc turning, I can honestly say that it's a lot harder than it looks. First you need a pretty good understanding of manual lathe work. If you don't know what the proper tool geometry, feeds and speeds of the material that you are cutting. Then the cnc side of the problem. What kind of programming does this thing use , G code or Conversational?
@WeberMachineWorks
@WeberMachineWorks 2 күн бұрын
@@paul5683 Yeah you are right about that. You really need to learn manual lathe operation for sure.

Are you kidding it's a slat bed lathe. A duh I have two way older then the guys there Cost under 3k And learn from manual don't jump it will aid in your maching. Some times it's way faster. Over time. I know I beat a Moro seki 2500 lathe 100 part run if you can not even turn one don't cnc or crash and have fun I know I am a cnc mechinc. Learn manual first

@@LokiTrismegistusBecause he is right. Price will be insane in comparison with productivity. Its like 3D printers - everybody bought it, and now, 95% users do not know what to do with it. Not everyone is an engineer to find use for this, but there is a small catch - engineers already have their ways how to manufacture their stuff, in a much better way than this toy. But yes, its very nice, simple and good design. Good job.

@@pipthepip2299You don't have to be an engineer to have use of this time of machine. It has the same use as a 3d printer but goes even further

@59Mrgamer Please read my comment again - you are just confirmed what I am saying ;-) And no, you need to be a some kind of engineer, because otherwise you will end up like with 3D printers - have no use for this. But this time it will cost you much much more.

You know what’s good about “bulky cnc lathes”? They’re bulky for a reason. More rigidity. Save your money build your own cnc lathe, retrofit a Chinese 17x4. Buy your own proper cnc lathe. Anything looks better than this (what probably will be) overpriced piece of junk
@JFBence

Or just buy a used manual lathe for the same price. Yes, it needs the space, but still, you could do some useful machinig.
