I agree, but this is more excellence on a technical level. The real feeling of lonelyness and enchantment can only be evoked by listening to the original singer: Yanick Etienne, as can be seen and heard here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/laDZqJ5tbK-Frdk

Andy Greene in Rolling Stone, published yesterday wrote, "Background singer Tawatha Agee, who toured with the group in the early Eighties, does an amazing job on this one. The background musicians for the upcoming tour haven’t been announced, but Agee was a part of Ferry’s most recent solo tour and let’s hope she’s back for this next Roxy run." I fell for her when they were at the Hollywood Bowl, 1983.
@williamcandee5267
@williamcandee5267 2 жыл бұрын
@@clarkdhruvaeforden In the Frejus concert from 1982, which was recorded and released as a movie of sorts, the backup singers were Fonzi and Tawatha (who were both at R&R HOF induction) plus Michelle Cobbs, who sang on Avalon and toured extensively with Ferry in the early and late 80s. Tawatha's voice is still as amazing as it was in the 80s. Michelle essentially left the business and became a well-regarded addiction counselor in the NY area. Fascinating article on her in Rolling Stone. She and Fonzi were pals with Luther Vandross when she graduated from a NY arts high school, and worked extensively with Chic. She also sang with Diana Ross, the Police, Gang of Four, Duran Duran; a really-varied career.

Alan Spenner played bass on the original but he's sadly no longer with us (R.I.P.). The bass player in this version is Neil Jason, who played on some other songs on the original Avalon album. Neil Jason didn't play live for Roxy Music in the 1970s or 1980s but more recently joined them on their 2022 tour. He's also played with Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Brecker Brothers, Paul SImon....

I am a self thought blues guitar player struggling to learn how to master ? The instrument ?SOMEWHAT with some what of a bit of results .AND WHEN I LISTEN TO THIS MASTERPIECE it makes me realize how little I know, and how humbling this melody makes me aware of how many more miles I need to ''travel '' to accomplish my goal ! I KNOW THE GUITAR IS NOT THE''LEAD INSTRUMENT '' on display here but the overall arrangement is overwhelming .To me I THINK THIS IS AS CLOSE TO A MUSICAL PERFECTION ONE CAN ATTAIN ! This tune reaches into my heart ! simply INCREDIBLE BEAUTIFUL .

Fabulous. Just watched a video of Ferry in 1972. It’s called star power and talent man. Fabulous.

I've been a fan since the very beginning - saw them in the early 70s in Glasgow. Still a fan 50 years later ;)
