It is a lush piece, from the beginning with the strings mixed in, painting a beautiful soundscape. From the first song I ever heard, I have been a fan of Roxy Music. From one fan to another, God's Peace to you and all here. ✌️🙏

Commonly mistaken last instrument solo as guitar, not guitar, electric Violin by Eddie Jobson formerly of band Curved Air, Acquired after Eno left.

I have to say he has a really good tone to have it sound like a guitar

Avalon is one of my stranded-on-an-island album; sexy urban music. A great album I just don’t get tired hearing. ´True to Life’ is a gem.

Out Of The Blue features the stupendous electric violin of Eddie Jobson. For more of that, search for and listen to "If There Is Something [Viva! live version]". In my opinion, that live version specifically with Jobson is the best thing Roxy Music recorded. Phil Manzanera's guitar is of course superb.

Seeing your face start to smile near to the end was so great. I got to relive that feeling vicariously all over again. Avalon and that period is so different & cannot compare to the first few records, but is still better than most things I guess. First time at your channel and I'm hoping you've had a chance to do sentimental fool from this record because it's amazing. So happy that you get Ferry's voice. It's high drama with a wink at all times. I remember as a girl in the early 80s meeting an older guy in college who had all their records. I'd heard Love is the drug & loved it, but when I heard the first few records I was a GONER and have been all these years. Oddly enough as I write this Avalon just came on in your video & it sounds better than I remember it.

I am french so sorry for my english. Very nice reaction sir. Yes I have read all the comment about your reaction, and I add too, check Roxy Music live at Apoolo Theater I beleive 2001 may around that year. In show, this band of musician make an incredebule blow off of musicship and the style. Dancing girls, vraiment bon de voir des artistes de ce calibre, expressing so much quality. Merci , Daniel du Québec

Yes Roxy were generally liked by and influenced the punk bands. Like Bowie. Also the end solo on OOTB is by Eddie Jobson on electric violin.

avalon sounded different to the other 2 songs as it was 7/8 years later. If you want to check out the Roxy song that really influenced the punks listen to "Editions of You" from '73(also has the best synthesizer solo in music history).

The first 2 albums (with ENO in the band) were groundbreaking. The next 2 (with Eddie Jobson) are also great. They They turned more and more smooth disco.

The scat vocal solo at the end of Avalon is by Yannik Etienne, who at the time could hardly speak a word of English but could certainly communicate in the universal language. Her session career was pretty much built on this performance - and naturally she's toured more than once with Bryan and/or Roxy. Songs I'd recommend? Let's not waste time - go straight to the killers. In Every Dream-Home A Heartache, Ladytron [esp. that 1972 TV version] , For Your Pleasure, The B.O.B Medley, Mother of Pearl and Bittersweet.

When this came out, I was the only one in our crowd to listen to Roxy. But the early stuff, the first 5 albums were indeed WOW. After that not so much. In my opinion. For reference, I'm 62 years old now.

That live very long version of If There Is Something off the viva live album mind blowing 70s track . With Avalon they moved to the CD world of yuppies there non blues hard sound perfectly fitted the emptyness of the 80s like a better soundtrack to American Psycho ( sorry Phil and Level 42)
