Lyrics
Make me a deal and make it straight
All signed and sealed, I’ll take it
To Robert E. Lee I’ll show it
I hope and pray he don’t blow it, ‘cos
We’ve been around a long time
Just trying to make the big time
Take me on a rollercoaster
Take me for an airplane ride
Take me for a six day wonder
But don’t you throw my pride aside
Besides, what’s real and make believe?
Baby Jane’s in Acapulco
We’re all flying down to Rio
Throw me a line I’m sinking fast
Clutching at straws, can’t make it
Havana sound we’re trying
Hard edge the hipster jiving
Last picture shows down the drive-in
You’re so sheer you’re so chic
Teenage rebel of the week
Roxy Music were an English rock band formed in 1970 by Bryan Ferry-who became the band's lead singer and main songwriter-and bass guitarist Graham Simpson. The other longtime members were Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, and Paul Thompson. Other members included Brian Eno, Eddie Jobson, and John Gustafson. Wikipedia

The blond guy who played the synth was Brian Eno who went on to do solo work ("Here Come the Warm Jets" great album) and worked with David Byrne and The Talking Heads. This song is from a movie called "Velvet Goldmine" which deals with the Glam Era and the story behind David Bowie and Iggy Pop working together.

I'll be there with all my old Roxy mates, living it large! 😂😂

Roxy music had some amazing talent. Singer Bryan Ferry had a great career, in and out of Roxy Music. I remember when Let's Stick Together lp came out, followed by In Your Mind. Guitarist, Phil Manzenara played some tracks for Godley and Creme, he then put an amazing line up together under the name of Phil Manzenana's 801. Listen Now was the stand out album in my opinion. Meanwhile, there was another Roxy Music resurgence, followed by more solo albums by Bryan Ferry. This era included the hauntingly beautiful Trak, Avalon.

I am old enough to remember this,Ferry had the air of cavalier certainty unique to the priveliged aristocrat, maybe he is? Too cool for the common man to ever be.The later work doubled down on this.Who else does that style?Maybe an English thing.

Bryan Ferry has an aristocratic air, but his father was a "farm labourer," poor really. Art school was free at that time in England, and he met most of his other bandmates at that art school. I imagine his accent is very different from the accent he grew up with.
