Roy Buchanan live at Jonathan Swift's, Cambridge, MA. December 27th 1986. Camcorder shot on tripod, taken from NTSC T-160, recorded at SP with mono audio. Tape archive 1115
Leroy "Roy" Buchanan was an American guitarist and blues musician. A pioneer of the Telecaster sound, Buchanan worked as a sideman and as a solo artist, with two gold albums early in his career and two later solo albums that made it to the Billboard chart. He never achieved stardom, but is considered a highly influential guitar player. Guitar Player praised him as having one of the "50 Greatest Tones of All Time. He appeared on the PBS music program Austin City Limits in 1977, I would advise you watch that show with him as it is quite brilliant.

✋Steevee. Great show. A no frills or gimmicks guy. The classical piece was awesome. Tragic end to his story. Don't believe for one minute he took his own life. Another "unsung hero" Thanks for taking time off to "entertain" us. Cheers mate👍🍻

Those notes around 7 min mark. I was listening to this in my kitchen and I heard a similar sound that seemed to be coming from outside. So I lowered it down and I saw a Seagull was flying around and I swear it was making the same high pitched sounds, sounded just like the guitar. They say birds are often happy to be messengers for those who have passed, so I think that Seagull was Roy appreciating how much I love his music, and wanting to be sing along.

Should do a movie about this guy's life. I remember the reporter who wrote he just saw maybe the greatest guitar player in the world accompanied by mediocre players in a small dump club, playing before 25 people and probably making no more than fifty dollars. He wondered who is this guy and how did he wind up here? Tremendous talent and tragic life with ups, downs, twists, turns and a strange, heartbreaking ending. Love to see a movie about Roy. Great upload. Thank you.

Agreed. A movie about Roy would be fantastic, I guess the twists and turns would make the casual viewer wonder if were true, but truth really is usually stranger than fiction.

About 7 years ago I saw a guy play guitar at a jam night and he played exactly like Roy Buchanan. He had a tele and he was doing all those little tricks like Roy. I saw him in Chicago but he told me he lived in Michigan. I think he is some Roy Buchanan tribute guy from Michigan and did this all the time. And he looked a lot like Roy too. This guy would be perfect for that movie you want to see. 🙋

I saw Roy two times back in the eighties and both times he blew the back of my head off. Even to this day years later when I watch this footage I will never forget standing in a room full of people watching Roy and thinking how and the hell is he doing all those things on his guitar. Along the years just about every guitar player I would ever talk to about Roy would share the same amazement that I do. He is the best kept secret of all the guitar players. Thank you for putting this amazing footage of Roy online. We cannot ever forget Roy and what a contribution he made to the guitar world and what an influence he was on many great players like Hendrix and Paige and Beck. Long live Roy Buchanan 🙏

He first blew my eardrums up in 74 when a local FM station started playing the studio version of Hey Joe. As he he got older his playing and his tone improved substantially. Listen to this show compared to say the livestock album. I'm unaware of another quitar player that sort of progression in their fortieth year and beyond
