Dude. The ground slap is one of the first moves I learned in North Jersey Krav Maga class. I know it was the dude getting crank choked but that shit stops you from smashing the back of head into the ground. Fell backwards going down feet first and off of framing one day at work. That move will keep you from getting hurt. Best self defense in the world brotha.

Notice how he punches to the face with a closed fist, in the real situation he would break his hand....

What I am about to say is not really about the person demonstrating in this video but rather about the evolution of the martial arts in general. Back in the day years ago someone would achieve a very high level before opening a school or teaching. They would have a legitimate rank through a teacher of real status in the world that had real lineage from a strong and real blood line of learning and the understanding and knowledge as well as abilities that would amaze most. Or they would learn from a real master like Bruce Lee did but achieved greatness with experience and a high level of that past down knowledge...that's learning a skill level for you...Bruce Lee never even had a official rank in martial arts. Now these days anyone with 10 years experience through a "coach" or through a paper master or self proclaimed internet master opens a school or is a paper master themselves. Everyone that has a video camera on KZbin is an expert. Talking...entertainment...excitement ..sensationalism..Martial arts is more than a head butt..kick..punch or technique. Learning to paint by numbers has some purpose but is not mastery ..an artist is someone that is not just technically good. That is the way a normal black belt would look back in the day..now it seems to be a mastery level. The old boys and real experience are not here anymore. The dojo floor has become KZbin. The camera owners with some experience have even convinced themselves In their mind they are of a mastery level...Who said? they did? The viewers say? What does reality say? Not too many real masters around any more or people of real experience with a high level of knowledge.... Just modern sophisticated basics...effective enough in its own right but not seasoned with the understanding of the old world knowledge of the time past..that died with most of the old real masters of the past. These days everyone is a master....so much so that there are no students left.

Roy Elghayan - Roy Elghanayan Instructor mon ami Forces Speciales de Infanteria de IDF Tzahal Israel - . i see your point. Krav Maga is not really meant for defeating expert fighters in a cage who are used to taking a lot of hits, its really more meant for defeating an "average joe" coming at you in the streets, imo. In my experience, we are mostly training how to counter attacks, in the most efficient way possible when being scared. We mostly practise "simple" movements, such as how to defend yourself against a knife, gun, fist, choke in the most efficient way possible. I'm pretty sure Roy, the instructor in the video, is a very high standing member within the Krav Maga community. But to me, with Krav Maga experience, it looks like he makes a lot of uneccessary and extremely dangerous movements, for oneself, to use in an actual fight/life or death situation(which is what Krav Maga is for). Its especially dangerous if these people are rookies, and don't even know the fundementals yet, and these are some of the first things they learn. *Some* of the moves he showed might be allright to learn if you already have the fundementals down, though i can't really comment on that since Im no expert myself. I would say that the major flaw in this demonstration, and most of these moves, is the expectation that the attacker(the guy Roy is practising his moves on) will just stand still and let this be done to him. Of course if you take a hit to the face/balls or elsewhere which might hurt a lot, the average guy would indeed be stunned to a degree; how much depending on the person. But to be stunned to this degree seems a bit absurd. I need to clarify that within the Krav Maga that i practise, which i view as "proper" Krav Maga, there are no such over the top movements, and the attackers are resisting to a degree. We aim to be able to stop the attacker from being able to resist too much, through quick and deadly outbursts though. My own instructor has a lot of real life experience in fights so i trust him to be able to instruct properly. Even if i didn't trust him through that, I would get to see just how effective the moves are when done to myself, which I do. They hurt a lot. Im pretty sure Roy, the instructor, has been in a lot of fights himself, since he has been trusted to train the Israeli Special Forces, which is why i find this showing very odd. Because even for Krav Maga experts, quite a few of his movements seem very unecessary (1:12 being an example). have a nice day

This is fine and dandy but it's the same thing I see everywhere. "Grab my wrist" All of these techniques look to get you to the same position for the knee strike to body or groin. What happens if your opponent doesn't grab your wrists or doesn't allow you to grab the arm and get knee'd or kick in the balls? What next? Not much contingency there.
