No-reload Riza is one of my favorite things. She literally carries enough firepower to arm a small team if needed. She didn't even hesitate to hand Ed a spare pistol when Gluttony was rampaging, and that was after her rifle was destroyed. She's just a walking armory.

It's easy to forget that Mustang is _the_ most dangerous human alchemist in the entire show. Like, he was named "hero" in a genocidal war for a reason - Kimblee, a lunatic who _delighted_ in murder and destruction needed a philosophers stone just to keep up with Mustang when he _didn't_ really want to kill a countriesworth of people. That's the power differential we're working with Crimson Alchemist with a stone and bloodlust < Flame Alchemist just punching the clock. Imagine what he can do when he wants something dead at a personal level.
@houseofaction
@houseofaction Жыл бұрын
thats objectively false. without a stone they are equel this is a fact, witht he stne he has the definite advantage. moreover Isaac McDougal would be the most dangerious alchemist in the anime. ice based techniques are scientifically superior to explosive powers
@limit1770
@limit1770 Жыл бұрын
@@houseofaction I mean if you go by the manga, Mustang can also manipulate he air people breathe and deprive them of oxygen, which, if he decided to use that offensively, would be an automatic KO for Kimblee and McDougal. And probably everyone else. And considering he can make a mini hydrogen bomb with water, if he actually decided he wanted to kill everyone and everything while it's raining... yeah. Plus, while McDougal won in that brief moment they clashed, he wouldn't have been able to pull off most of the feats Mustang has, especially the homunculi related ones. Seriously though, where are you getting these "objective facts?" Nothing in the show proves them.

Roy's demeanor before and after Envy's confession(?) is such a huge contrast. When Roy first shows up he incinerates the husks after noticing how Ed was struggling, and apologizes to him for killing them because he understands that Ed views even the husks as alive (which likely is why Ed didn't use lethal alchemy) as a part of his hope for Al. All the softness leaves Roy once he starts fighting Envy, torturing envy and shouting at even his allies.

Hatred doesn’t die with revenge. Revenge is an unsatisfying, unfulfilling, and utterly consuming thing. It leaves you feeling empty and without purpose afterward. And if you ever cross that line once, it gets easier with each time afterward. Easier to pull that trigger, easier to justify it as necessary or fair. Roy even took pleasure in torturing Envy, showing just how far he had gone.
@BrenoRanyere

And if a guy as powefull, skilled, resourceful, and smart as Roy awakened to such a scary thing as feeling pleasure through the misery of others, or being indifferent to it, the countrie would have been hella screwed.

@@nullakjg767u are wrong. Contrast Lust v Mustang and Envy v Mustang. Lust even comments on his eyes and how focused they are - focused on the mission to protect others. Now look at Roy’s eyes here. It is a thirst for vengeance. People will keep hurting you but if you start letting yourself respond in kind you become a monster. It was not about Envy escaping. Scar and Ed both would rips Envy a new hole and when Hawkeye stopped him she also could end him. It was a question of justice or revenge.
@nullakjg767
@nullakjg767 Жыл бұрын
@@leodouskyron5671Justice is literally just state sponsored revenge lol. Its not for some moral rationale. Its to prevent riots and societal upheaval from people who demand revenge, otherwise honor killings would return once its clear the govt doesnt care about order. Not to mention atrocity and justice are completely subjective terms that is determined by the winner. The russian military and their propaganda also paints them as "protecting" russian citizens under illegitmate nazi rule. Envy tricked a nation into committing a genocide. I wouldnt follow a leader who allowed someone like that to go. If ed and hawkeye wanted to stop roy from taking revenge, why not just crush him in his own hand right there? Why argue? Was she going to construct a tiny little noose and hang him? Then 2 seconds later, envy bites ed and manages to escape his grasp. And they let him monologue instead of just stepping on him right away. At least may had a clear reason to allow him to live.

Okay Primer The FMA fandom LOVES Maes Hughes, he's still the Number 1 Best Dad in Anime and that's largely from the Manga and the 03 series as we get more from him in that than the 09. This reaction by Mustang is how the fans were and still are, I hate Envy for what he did to Maes and destroyed the Hughes family, but I'm totally glad that we got the wake up call from Ed on that explanation.

Roy boiling up Envy's eyes will never fail to both terrify and make me cheer with awe given who Envy is and what they did. It gets more brutal the more you think about how extremely painful it would be.
@zelithfang2365
@zelithfang2365 Жыл бұрын
I find it confusing when people cheer for Roy. Like he's so full of hate and despair every snap is followed by a grunts tainted with nothing but pure agony. It's almost like he's in pain. You can see the downwards spiral he's in. It's becoming more and more sadistic with every snap. Wanting Envy's agony to last as long as possible. He even monologues while waiting for Envy to regenerate just so he can continue to burn him over and over. Finding newer and more painful ways to harm and mane but not kill. In contrast to Lust, he took no pride nor pleasure in each snap. He showed no emotion, just raw determination. One goal, to kill her as quick as possible. Even Lust commented on how cold and calculating his gaze was before her death, how unfeeling it was. This contrast shows you how damaged Roy was when fighting Envy. So I'm always confused when people start cheering for him, it's like they are utterly missing the entire point of the scene. Ain't your fault at all. Never the less still weird. Like I wanted Envy dead just as much as everyone, but watching him lose himself, it made the utter beat down Envy was getting less and less satisfying the more and more gruesome it got. It wasn't even satisfying to see Envy in this state, all that was left was sadness for Roy.
@JDP5127
@JDP5127 Жыл бұрын
I think most cheer for Roy because they are caught up in the first half of the scene, in the death of Envy, that they do not catch the subtleties of Roy's downfall until the the end of the scene. It is painfully clear on your second time in the scene, but for a lot of people it is missed on the first watch because they are so excited to finally see Envy die, and it is so satisfying. You want to see Envy burn, so that is what they see.

I think what also makes this a masterpiece of a scene to watch is that it even makes some viewers question themselves (like I did when I first watched this two months back). I myself was in awe at how Mustang was decimating Envy. I knew he was in a downward spiral but every time he cremated this malevolent being that’s responsible for thousands upon thousands of lost souls, I was happy that someone could exact justice on him. Whether intentionally or not however, Arakawa (the mangaka) makes us as viewers reflect on ourselves as we cheer and support the ireful vengeance. All humans have a view on what’s right and what’s wrong. It’s right to provide punishment to a murderer, because in the context of the show, it can be dubbed as equivalent exchange. Giving someone a piece of their own medicine is satisfying yes but it’s also part of laws cultivated (we have things like executions for a reason I suppose). We don’t want the criminal getting any virtue after having performed a heinous act; the act shouldn’t be positively reinforcing. That’s why the concept of revenge exists in the real world. We almost become like an envious being: praying on the downfall on another individual to make ourselves seem better. It’s just like Roy taking satisfaction from Envy’s constant screams of agony from his attacks on his eyes, tongue etc. Some viewers like me want Roy to do this but for me personally, as Roy kept on snapping, I realized that he was not only going to become the monster he was incinerating in the sense that killing Envy will only make him less unforgiving and restrictive in pulling a killing blow on just about anything that gets him ticked off personally, but it will turn him into the exact person he wants to take the seat of power from, Wrath, who’s consumed by hatred. After Riza thankfully pulled the gun on him, it made me realize that it was the death of one person that caused this slow downward spiral into madness. In the grand scheme of war and politics, if this is how a potential leader acts every time just one comrade takes a fall, then they can’t lead. If this is how he acts especially when he wanted to change his ways and country due to the many lives he contributed in taking (now getting vexed because of a singular life), then he can’t lead. If he can’t even keep a promise to a woman he so dearly loves (Riza) and use what she showed her back for to a healthy use and cause, he can’t lead. These many things made me realize that humans would do anything to try and make up for something that is lost, it’s even the main part of FMAB being Equivalent Exchange. We cheer for Roy because we want Roy to feel satisfaction but it’s in Roy’s actions that we realize that the satisfaction isn’t healthy. We saw what “wanting to get something back” did to Ed and Al, Izumi etc. For any minor or major loss, we wish to play the “God” and ensure that we get that satisfaction back. It’s made worse in a world where everyone with good knowledge of Alchemy can use this superpower for good or evil with ease. Alchemy is most of the time just a book away. Humans will cling for this power to get back and feel something again. But as the show teaches us, in a real world, we can’t always play this God. We don’t always have to take revenge. Justice is right and Envy deserved elimination but it’s more about losing yourself to profound satisfaction that makes you realize the ease at which you can just exact vengeance again. Just like Envy, this wrathful side of Mustang died due to being critiqued and shamed by people he respects or from someone that he has been devoted to capturing due to the exact same deal with vengeance (Scar), making him the hypocrite almost.

Well most shows it's just good guy kill bad guy and the audience gets catharsis seeing the villain defeated. They don't get into the mental state of the good guy much. I think more shows do stuff like this and because the norm is not to think about it too much people ride that high but when a show explores this stuff, ppl miss it. Berserk does that a lot. Even in gaming Asura's Wrath, your not suppose to be happy for the angry man having a mental breakdown in either of those.

Objectively speaking, most viewers want to see Envy get what he deserves. Which is just fine. But, it also displays how people get so caught up in that punishment fantasy that they don't pay close attention to what is actually being done.

Roy stays focused and does'nt Fall for their Tricks, even in this blind Rage he goes for the Throat. The reveal of Envys true Nature is what made them my favorite character. Maybe becouse of pitty. @@houseofaction but to have wrath, you need a REASON to have that anger be sparked... the emotions embodied by wrath are not mindless anger. it is belligerence aroused by a real or supposed wrong (personified as one of the deadly sins). it is one of the more complicated deadly sins, unlike gluttony, lust or sloth. keep in mind that while wrath IS technically a homunculus, hes still mostly human, bearing no regenerative capabillities or agelessness like the others... his only real abillity is just seeing physical weaknesses regardless of obstruction. also he mentioned that she was more like a pet to him, so them being entirely unconnected to one another is not exactly true either.

@@houseofaction they don't only have one emotion, did you ever see Lust only preoccupied with sleeping around? Envy was furious when Wrath didn't kill Roy when he had the chance, Gluttony cried for his sister at death's door, Pride admitted to liking his step mother. Why is Greed the only exception? Wrath did have other emotions, anger is just the most prominent one. I'd say the only sin that never really showed a different side to him was Sloth.
@SnowyWolborg
@SnowyWolborg Жыл бұрын
@@houseofaction This is 100% incorrect. The homunculi are dominated by a single emotion, but it is not the only one they are capable of. Greed is the perfect example of how the homunculi are capable of changing and forming opinions that do not align with what Father intended for them, _if given the chance._ The greatest irony of Bradley's character is that by his own words, he is in the ultimate position of power, but in truth, he has arguably the littlest freedom of them all.

RIP Envy. I loved him/her/them as a villain so much throughout the entire series. Just an awful, evil, sadistic, bully of a character laughing and gloating over all the pain and misery they caused with just the perfect amount of comedy sprinkled in. The author gave us the perfect set-up for Roy getting his revenge, and I think Envy watching all the hatred and misery they tried to cause be undone was a far more fitting fate than Roy burning them to nothing.
