Nobody’s talkin bout that groovy soulful piano solo

Tadataka Unno. Shout-out to him, he's been through a lot since this time, still going at it. Hand-picked by Roy following stints with Sullivan Fortner and Gerald Clayton before that, not a bad group of piano alums. Reminds me of another trumpet player who had a knack for finding excellent players for his band, now what was his name ... ?

I can't believe he just died. At 49 years old of a heart attack caused by kidney disease. The world has lost an unbelievable talent. I saw him twice here in Chicago at the Jazz Showcase with Justin Robinson and Ameen Saleem. Rest in Peace. Know that you brought joy to those who were lucky enough to hear your music.

I’m going to miss Roy’s sound. The good thing is, he has left us with a catalogue to listen, enjoy and to remember him by. RIP Roy Hargrove 🙏🏾.

One of my greatest inspirations as both a trumpet player and musician. This one is for you Roy.

Is a trumpet player not a musician?
@austinmorganmakesmusic3 жыл бұрын
@@janemba204 I truly think it depends on the player. There are plenty of people put there who can play trumpet and thats completely fine. They play their part in the ensemble but thats it. Very little emotional input in the music from them. Its all “just play the notes right and call it a day.” A musician is one can is creating and investing themselves in the music. They’re not just playing right notes, they’re playing from their heart, from their soul, and creating something special for the listener. They’re investing so much of themselves in the music, it become personal. So much so that right notes almost don’t matter because what they are doing with music is greater than “playing the right notes”. Its creating something special just like a craftsman.

I know I’ve heard this piece before because KNKX tends to repeat a bit but today it snatched me. Each part meant so much to me. You know what……now that I think about it, he was an avatar. I sought out him and Joshua Redmond and a few others to bridge me from Trane and Miles played on repeat. Mr. Hargrove came, did that, and went back home after his gig in this realm.
