@@ichinomiyaconbimai5104 You got it backwards. The name "Philly Shell" came from the Fight Night video games. Toney gets heated when people call it that. His trainer is from Detroit and taught Manny Steward. People outside Philly been fighting like that for forever. No one has claim on that style but the guys that use and teach it.

Tough was an understatement. Toney was almost impossible to put away. Great defensive boxer, and a chin of iron. He reminded me a lot of Marvin Hagler, although Hagler probably had the greatest chin of any boxer in history. Before fighting Toney, only a few boxers went the distance with Roy. He was a KO and TKO machine back around this era.

Yeah but he definitely wasn't one of the best boxers Roy had faced. Just look at the records of Tarver vs Toney. Toney defended his Middleweight title 7 times until Jones beat him in this fight. He was a great defensive fighter with a granite chin. Toney went on to capture titles in 5 different weight classes, including HW. He is an all-time great! Tarver was good and hit hard, but he was just 3-3 in title fights, with only 1 ko against Jones. This was at Cruiserweight (or maybe it was Light Heavyweight). Jones wasn't the same fighter when he moved up in weight classes. He got slower and was starting to show age.

Why would it be Tarver? Because he KO'd Roy? That doesn't mean he's the best boxer he's ever faced. Toney had incredible defensive skills, a granite chin, and hit decently hard. He also was world champ in 5 weight classes and defended his Middleweight title 7 times before losing it to Jones. Tarver was very good, but not one of the all-time greats. Tarver was just 3-3 in world title fights, with just 1KO, that was his KO of Jones.

@@maxxxmodelz4061 Yes because he KO'd Roy and BEAT HIM. That's why... Roy is talking about who the hardest puncher naming boxers he likes more than Tarver. He didn't like Tarver so of course he's gonna skip over being knocked out and beat by Tarver and then mention other boxer that didn't even beat him or knock him out. How on earth are you gonna judge how hard someone hit you when you are knocked out? It's the most retarded thing to try and calculate. Especially when you're on the ground tryna regain consciousness. Lol
@maxxxmodelz4061
@maxxxmodelz4061 Жыл бұрын
@@MrRnBHittzville Tarver knocked out Jones in their SECOND fight. Tarver beat him twice, but the first fight was very competitive. Jones was not beat up in either fight. The KO came in the rematch, and it was a flash KO. There's a big difference between getting beat up and getting hit really hard for multiple rounds and being a victim of a flash KO. It's not the punch you see, it's the one you don't see that KO's you, and it doesn't have to always be the hardest punch you ever took either.

Roy is still cool and all but he doesn't want any of James Toney or Tarver so I'd like to see James Toney and Tarver get on but I don't think Tarver wants James Toney as well. But ( Micheal 2nd 2Nunn ) will get in the ring with any of them and they all know it. By the way Michael only lost to James Toney but that was luck because Nunn was playing around standing in front of Toney with his hands down after beating Toney for 11-Rds , and James Toney knows it.

@@hubertploberger985 I have a hard time seeing hopkins beating mike mccallum when he was a badass at 160. Mccallum is so underrated. Also, i have a hard time seeing hopkins move up to heavyweight and take shots from a big strong heavyweight in samuel peters. I agree with hubert. Also toney had better technical skills, better feints, footwork, head movement, rolls.

@@Keaweahe thank you, but don't get me wrong - Hopkins was a great fighter too and it must respected he was able boxing in highest level in his 40 plus years. Butl looking Toneys fights - no low blows, no headbutting, no holding - just clean punching - combined with best devensive skills. Handspeed, chin, experience and boxing skills, punching power - in my opinion James Toney is a all - time great.

@@hubertploberger985 I agree. I really like both honestly. Bernard hopkins to me is a really good hall of famer, and like you said, james toney is one of the rare, few, all time greats from recent times.
