During his first Republic of #Ireland international trip, Roy Keane was late onto the team bus coming back with a number of his Irish team mates. Jack Charlton was manager and left it to captain Mick McCarthy to sort it out. Mick McCarthy called #Roy #Keane a disgrace. Keane responded with an almighty comeback that had the rest of the bus in stitches.
Niall Quinn - Bootroom to Boardroom airs on Virgin Media Two on February 17th and February 24th at 10.15pm.

Roy changed the whole approach the FAI had to international match's. The players sitting in coach while the officials sitting in first class. It was a joke. Roy told Mick what they needed to do before they left and Mick agreed with him and promised he would get it done. The facilities were a disgrace and Roy said as much. Since then, the FAI had to step up. We were never gonna win the World Cup,with or without Roy, so all thats left is to thank him for improving the conditions current internationals play under.

This story actually proves Keane to be a hypocrite - because he’s on ITV ‘Stick to Football’ now with his mate Ian Wright, you can watch the video on here, and Wright recounted a story how they arranged to meet for dinner, and Wright was three minutes late so Keane left and refused to go for the meal. He then said to Wright that standards like punctuality were part of the reason Man United won so many trophies. Anyone that wants the link I’ll direct you.

If one of, if not, the greatest DMF on the planet had been in the team I'm sure Ireland would have won that match, taking them into the quarters. Ireland had drawn with eventual finalists Germany in the group stage. Great stopage time equaliser by the more patriotic R. Keane [remember watching it at work in NW London]

@@timbo7762 The Tim Cahill situation doesn't bother me at all tbh, at least Australia got to the quarter finals of the 2006 World Cup. Players like Rice and Grealish are another matter having played for Ireland youth sides and when they realise they might have a chance to play for England (who let's be honest, have a greater chance of winning an international cup and ar least playing in the competitions) just up and leave. Rice in particular who got senior caps and belts out our national anthem, he can go fuck himself. At least McCarthy played for us for 8 years or so and got 57 caps.
@jedsithor
@jedsithor 3 жыл бұрын
@@timbo7762 Ireland has a long history of emigration and this has meant that there are people of Irish heritage all over the world. Some descendants of those who emigrated embrace their Irish roots and others don't. Of those, some declare for Ireland because they feel a strong connection to their heritage. Others have declared for Ireland because they felt they had a better chance at being internationals by doing so than by waiting for their birth countries to pick them. As an Irish person, I feel that if someone has Irish roots, genuinely feels Irish and wants to play for Ireland, great. If someone is doing it just because England (or whatever country they hail from) rejected them, I don't have much time for them. Rice and Grealish came through the Irish setup from youth level. It was disappointing when they ultimately chose to represent England at senior level but if they don't feel Irish then there's nothing to be done about that. The truth is, Ireland has a huge problem. We aren't developing players. Yes we have a history of using English and Scottish players with Irish heritage but that was always complimented by players born and raised in Ireland. The likes of two Keanes, Duff, Irwin, Brady etc. There has never been such a lack of talent coming from Ireland as there is now. The problem is, there is no real facility to develop young players in Ireland (I'm talking from kids to Under 16 level). Our best prospects ultimately go to English academies, which is fine, they can train a player much better than we can. But they're competing with the best young talent from around the world at those academies and so the path to high level professional football for any player, never mind Irish player, is much narrower than it's ever been. Our home league is terrible (don't get me wrong, it can be fun to watch but it's a level far below the top tier, like the Conference or League 2 at a stretch and that's being generous) and the clubs here don't have the facilities to train players properly. Ideally, Irish players would stay in Ireland until they're 18 and learn their craft but that's just not an option. Irish football is also competing with the likes of rugby and homegrown GAA sports.

Roy Keane most overrated rubbish player! Even he admits he not talented player. Just a thug in the middle of the pitch who got sent off lots.He would be sent off nearly every game in today's modern football.
@mrcopes165

Sorry mate, you're talking rubbish. I'm a Liverpool fan and Keane had a great weight of pass on him, could play all sorts of passes as well as being that enforcer for united. Also that thing about him getting sent off every week if he played today, you could apply that to half the centre mids in the prem of his era.

@@mrcopes165 He wasn't a techinally gifted football,he is the first to admit that.He also rougher than any premeirship midfielder in those days,so would be the one getting sent off more than anyone else in todays game.Also fun fact about roy keane I remember he saying that he could have played non league football all his life,as when playing for irish team a scout was looking at someone else in his team,and keane admitted that he just happened to have a good game that day,so got picked up by scout.

Ferguson told Keane not to go to the World Cup because he had a bad knee and it wouldn't stand up to competitive matches but Keane decided to go. Once he trained in Saipan he knew he couldnt continue and looked for away out. Thats when he decided to complain about everything. He should have listened to Ferguson. Good player but wanted everything his way.
