Roy Rogers playing Terraplane Blues live at Sierra Center Stage 2001

My second divorce took away a lifetime love of music, centered on the blues. One night at the foot of a small stage in Knoxville Tn, Roy gave it back to me. I muscled my way into the small room after the show and told him. He said "that's why I play". I am eternally grateful.

No one . . . and I mean no one on God's earth plays slide guitar like Roy Rogers. He is a king in his own realm.

I would love to see Roy and Sonny Landreth jam together - two of our greatest living slide masters feeding off each other. Then throw in Ry Cooder for an encore.

I'd like to see him with Derick Trucks@@1blastman

Thumbs up if you would like to see Roy and Sonny Landreth jam together on slide guitars. That's my slide fantasy.

Get enough thumbs up and it just might happen at a festival.

THAT would be AWESOME!!! ... Get Derrick Trucks in on the act? And THAT would be REALLY AWESOME !!! 🤠

There's a pretty good duet with Roy and Bonnie Raitt called "Gnawin' on it".

Absolutely the definition of a great player - the folks can hardly dance! They have to keep watching him - they can't believe what they hear!

Terraplane Blues.... Robert Johnson telling his story about his woman through an Essex Terraplane automobile... He's gonna "get down in that connection"... LOL... Great song and Roy does it proud!

Playing is great. I don't like the packaging. He invokes the masters and legends, but contemporizes the hell out of it. It's like traditional acoustic blues repackaged minus the soul, and add the classic rock audience chasing.
@edouglaspratt5 жыл бұрын
"How can anyone criticize...?" Couldn't agree more, Tramp. This man's a Master disciple of the genius, his Muse, Robert Johnson. At the risk of sounding like I'm criticizing, I do have a preference for a more natural tone, maybe with a bit of gritty gain, so, "Roy, please lose the chorus,...you too, Taj." -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
@SuperGaleford5 жыл бұрын
Probably cuz retards wanna say he just mimics the old masters. To that I say, wrong, morons, he pays homage to them then FAR exceeds what those old timers even thought was possible

After having seen this clip like 20 times I finally noticed the stick master in the background. That is some tight drumming. Masterfull!

Many play on the guitar but this man actually plays the guitar. Wonderful music that is within an historical tradition but with endless variation. I am really impressed and believe me it takes a lot to impress me. Michael Arch

Jon dough, it's an interpretation of a song by Robert Johnson, a man who Roy has a great reverence and respect for. It's also a showcase of a gifted American contemporary blues musician. Muddy waters created R & R by plugging in and playing the blues electrified. Being a blues man myself I still get chills when I watch this video. And let's be completely honest here jon, how many people do you know who can play the guitar like Roy? I guarantee you, if Robert Johnson had lived long enough he would have plugged in too. Do you see anyone in that crowd that isn't having fun, and for me that's what listening and playing music has meant for me, fun. I'd like to see you toss of this ditty as proficiently as Roy. Fat chance I'd say.

I read somewhere that before he died, Robert was experimenting with an early electric guitar.

Saw Roy a few years back in Portland , that guy can play. Derrick Trucks, John Hammond, and a few other slide players in his league. His Terraplane Blues with John Lee Hooker is one of my favorites. Roy’s guitars are really interesting machines too

" ...as he finished the live show it appeared that each hand had 20 fingers, each arm had 10 hands, and each shoulder had 10 arms. The person behind me yelled 'I didn't know a human could do THAT' "- from an article and interview and review by Robert Horn

In 1987 I'd met Roy Rogers in Caspar Inn (CA 95420) and I adviced him to plan a tour through Germany. He said, it could be a good idea, but he hadn't yet tought about it. More than 20 years later I read, that he really made a tour through Europe include Germany a few years after I had spoken with Roy in California. Unfortunately I'd missed him here in my native country, but I can watch and listen to him at youtube = still amazing, he's a great guitarist and a pleasant personable guy.
