I feel like they didn’t actually show us the refining process, this looks to be just smelting, scrapping dross or slag off the top of a crucible is common & the idea of refining gold with chlorine while molten sounds insane although I’m not an expert. This is usually done at room temperature where the gold is dissolved in solution where the other trace metals can be filtered off

Colt SAAs have maintained a value almost the same as 1 oz of gold throughout its history.When the first ones were made they sold for roughly$20 bucks while the liberty head $20 gold coin was the same price.Now a custom shop single action will run you around $1800 while gold is you guessed it $1800 oz!

I was stationed in Thailand in 1970, and at times would go downtown and visit the local jewelry shops. A one ounce Swiss Credit of gold was selling for $35 and ounce. Had I known what was going to happen, I wouldn't have bought my Minolta SLR or my Kenwood stereo system, and bought gold instead. Sigh...

Idid a tour of this place a few years back, very interesting, and at that time, there were you tube articles saying that there was a shortage of gold and silver, lol, if they only saw how much gold and silver i saw.... believe me, no shortage of either. Rows and rows of gold and siver coils, and skids of very large bars of both as far as eye could see.....

my god, we did the pressing process by hand (and yes, it got really hot, we only went down to 22 carat, and the gold became really really hot with the 2 parts of silver, we just put on two pairs of gloves lol), we also anealed halfway through the process, before the final pressing and cutting out the blank coins, depending on the size of the coins required for the project

Actually it goes thru electrolysis in final stage where only pure gold migrates to positively charged plates from smelted gold.

The Canadian mint always makes sure that your pockets aren't carrying any gold in them. If you intentionally try to pick up excess gold on the floor, you will be fired.

I've always wondered about the stuff they skim off the top during refining process. Is there still a bit of gold in the stuff they skim off? Do they save up the skimmed off stuff and refine it further to make sure all the gold is out? I know with gold you don't want to waste any.

8:09 The effigy of Elizabeth in her younger years would indicate that these coins aren't .9999 fine. The coins pressed only between 1979 and 1982 contain .999 fineness. However since the hologram showed .9999, it's clear some of the footage was after 1982. Some had been before 82'

the new obverse by Dora de Pédery-Hunt we see here was introduced in 1990 and was changed for the actual obverse by Susanna Blunt in 2003. At the end of the video, the Holographic special edition was struck in 1999 and at 8:55 you can see the 15$ silver coin "year of the rabbit" coin ( also struck in 1999) so i think the footage was taken somewhere in 1999
