The INFO MOTO boys team up from across the globe to test a new scrambler from Royal Enfield, the Bear 650, channeling their heroes in Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen as they hit the road and dirt ‘On Any Sunday’ style...
2025 Royal Enfield Bear 650 Australian pricing and specs:
Royal Enfield has opened the order books for its new Bear 650, with an introductory pricetag of $11,490 rideaway, ahead of its local arrival in January.
At this price, the Bear 650 middles the brand’s ‘650 Twins’ line-up, joining the Interceptor ($10,390), Continental GT ($10,790), Shotgun ($11,590) and Super Meteor ($11,990).
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 is available to order in five colourways: Boardwalk White, Petrol Green, Wild Honey and the special-edition Two Four Nine.
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 is most closely related to the popular Interceptor 650, though it brings a number of key upgrades and dimensional changes throughout.
Importantly, the Bear 650 gains Showa inverted forks, a new two-into-one exhaust system, MRF-branded dual-sport tyres and 19-inch (front) and 17-inch (rear) wire-spoked wheels.
This suspension upgrade, as well as minor chassis tweaks compared to its Interceptor sibling, see the rear of the bike jacked up which in turn changes the riding dynamics, according to Royal Enfield.
This new suspension also sees increases travel, with 130mm on offer at the front, and 117mm at the rear. The brake rotors have also been adjusted slightly on both ends.
While the bike is motivated by a familiar 648cc parallel-twin engine, internal adjustments have resulted in a small boost to torque output.
Also notable is the inclusion of the round TFT dash found on the Guerrilla 450 and Himalayan, and the rear ABS is switchable befitting the bike’s ‘scrambler’ aesthetic.
The bike is so-named after the Big Bear Run desert race won in 1960 by one Eddie Mulder on a Royal Enfield 500. His number, 249, is used as a motif with the special edition Two Four Nine colourway.

Considering how terrible the condition of our local roads are in Australia, a bike like this actually makes sense. Not everyone needs a premium adventure bike, so the Bear offers something very practical for our less than perfect roads.

I'm always amazed how many people misinterpret scrambling for motocross.

Have you seen early {1950's} motocross/ enduro, especially in the Uk ? You'd call those bikes "scramblers" now....

I can relate, most of my dirt road riding, motocross and enduro was on a 1974 Yamaha DT400, I recon the suspension on the Bear would be better than my old DT400. If I was going to get a Royal Enfield, it would be a Bear, have to save some money, and convince my wife I need 5 motorcycles, as I already have a Pan Am, a 1988 Lowrider with a sidecar, the old DT400 and a 1971 Honda CB500 (modified to 600cc and set up as a classic track bike).

People need to look back at history and see what a "scrambler" was around 1960/1970. Examples are the Honda CL series, the Triumph TR6C, the BSA A7/A10 Super Rocket, and the Norton P11.

Not sure what your height is but you were in the perfect attack position to be able to properly control the bike if you wanted to use it for some gravel and dirt roads.

When journalists get called to this paid promotions and don't have anything negative to say about a bike, it raises some serious questions. Like, you didn't notice how the back shocks are terrible, the bike is too heavy for 47bhp, the headlight is crap from himalayan, it's too expensive for what it is, etc. They justify the cost just by being the only retro scrambler in this range, and that's not good enough. Himalayan is lighter, more capable off road, has better suspension, has more equipment, and it's cheaper! Where is the money going to? 200cc?

It's heavy yu say it's ok it's not less power.Have yu test ride the bike bear 650 with parralel twin more refined engine good features and with affordable price. If you have more power engine you won't able enjoy riding. You will only focus on road as it is powerful engine chugging out power and cunsuming more fuel to clear your pockets.

@gsrossco Visually, it's great, very nice looking. But here in Spain it costs nearly 7400€. For that price there are better bikes. Honda NX500 for example.

Not too much weight at all, look at adv bikes with dirt potential, some of them are a good 35kg's {77 pounds} or more heavier.
