I think its worth the 40k extra. Bur because RE is coming out with a new bike every other month, the idea of committing to buying one has been giving me fomo because new INT will come out next year, probably Continental too, maybe 450 continental sometime next year, even the 650 Himalayan, next 750cc engine and the list goes on. The bear looks great right now. My question is , will it look great 12-18 months from now...
@vikrantsingh6916Ай бұрын
Fair point.

Continental and INT when they come out next year with updated tft screen, better suspension and stuff, they will easily add on another 20k or so to their base prices
@BikeWaleOfficialАй бұрын
Yes, you have a fair point. But at today's prices, the Bear 650 feels a bit expensive. They could've priced it lower and then increased the prices gradually when the new INT and CGT came out.

@vikrantsingh6916Ай бұрын
I don't know if your scrambler build includes higher suspension travel. But if it doesn't, this makes more sense.
@lipsee100Ай бұрын
I would save money on the barkbusters,,(go Ali express cost about £20) and you could fit a 2 into 1 exhaust from TEC bike parts which looks much the same as the Bears ,,but you will not lose the centre stand.. I would also fit a front end off a 411 with the 21 front wheeel ,,, I suspect you could do all that and still be cheaper then a Bear...

for me I have a Meteor 350 which I use every day for work in the morning & cycle in the afternoon. I use it on the motorway & it's fine between 80-100 kph all day. Very economical. It's also good for lite off road but obviously lacks suspension travel & with a low straight exhaust crossing a basic river crossing would be difficult to avoid water in muffler. But it tracks very well off road even with stock tyres. So the Bear 650 would have to be able to do everything for me, city/highway for work-weekend rides around the hills-longer trips for overnight stays or rallys & some off road.I've ridden a scrambler 400X with 830 mm seat height & it was manageable made more so by the fact it was only 179 kg whereas the Bear 650 is 830 mm seat height but 218 kg so I guess until I feel the bike I won't know whether it's manageable or not.Everything else looks good although not a huge fan of muffler look but it's position is great.
@vikrantsingh6916Ай бұрын
The difference in feel between the seat heights of the 400X and this is probably the narrower waist of the 400x and it's more supple suspension which sags considerably under the Rider's weight making it easier to reach the ground. But, yes, you make some very good points there.
@BikeWaleOfficialАй бұрын
We'd suggest you take a test ride and see if the weight and the seat height is an issue for you.

Purely academic in interest, yes got what I was looking for. Pricing I feel RE is going to change the base pricing with new Interceptor and then the Bear price tag may seem better suited. But you're right in the current line-up of the bikes it does seem a stretch. I agree completely that people looking for a Scrambler in India are few and those may also be concerned with the weight and how the egos present themselves while standing/ saddling as it's referred to. Also agree with your observations of it not being a daily driver, and rather a fun partner for Sunday and touring trips. No big bikes for me in a while, and I'm currently on a Duke 390 for when I ride, and this 650 engine has been drawing me to it for a while. Let's see!

One of the big joys and reasons for the INT's success was its mouth wateringly good price. Take that away from the equation, and it's not as great a buy anymore. Yes, the INT and GT will be upgraded soon. And the prices will go up to make the Bear seem more reasonable, no question. But, in the meantime, would people buy the Bear or save the monies and settle for the INT? So, it won't prove to be popular at this price point.

For a bike that will spend very little time off pavement or doing more than traveling down a gravel dirt road, not having a tubeless tire, or tubeless option, makes it rather impractical for me. If I get a flat somewhere, I want to be able to plug and ride (providing it's a pluggable repair). It's the only scrambler I can think of that doesn't have tubeless tires.
