Great vid Paul.... So many people assembly clutches without being thorough as to the amount of lift and the run out of the pressure plate which is critical, more so on the dredid Bsa.. Triumph triples 😉

G'day mate that's a great idea about the valve stem use as a couch push rod, that's thinking on your feet, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

Thanks 👍

I was going to turn a mushroom to bear on the pressure plate. I never thought of digging through a pile of old bits and use a valve.

My older ( mid late 80s?) Indian built 350 the outer g.box case would flex when clutch operated. Made adjustments "challenging". The inner g.box case was porous..oil came through the walls. ..not the joining faces. RE quality control has improved. Enjoy your vidz.

I wish popping out of first could be addressed.Very helpful info on the plates,btw.

When mine started doing that, it was because of chipping and damage to the thrust surfaces of the dogs in the gearbox.

Neat, Thanks.

A GPZ500s clutch lever bolts right on and has a much longer throw. The 1st gen ones are quite plain looking silver levers which don't look out of place. The second gen ones are adjustable, they are better but look a little more out of place on a bullet.

How much should the clutch basket move out when applying the clutch? Mine has about 3/32 of an inch before the basket hits the snap clip and by then the pressure plate has run out of movement and my clutch doesn’t release.

How is the gearbox cover flex?

Hi mate, i have a 92 bullet 500 it has snapped the clutch cable i have replaced it now the clutch just stays engaged. But was slipping before the cable broke. Any ideas on the problem. Thanks
@paulhenshaw45142 ай бұрын
It sounds like you need to adjust the cable or the clutch operating arm, or possibly both.
@shanestanford45022 ай бұрын
Ok. The cable was near impossible to put back on. Really tight. Now it wont shift gears at all now

Lots of fiddling, thanks for an explanation.

I also have been thinking about that Enfield clutch .. I drew the parts on a computer and checked them for design flex all good. ..the design is a good design the problem(s) are IMHO fit and finish. And lever ratios ..the front lever lift ratio and especially that gearbox clutch pushrod lever as u say the angles and ratios are all over the place. The clutch itself is a clever design
@paulhenshaw4514 Жыл бұрын
The old, pre 54 gearboxes had a much better clutch actuator set up, with a centred 'Quick thread' mechanism directly over the pushrod end, doing the job.

Yes I've thought of that ... I'm a fan of keep it simple ... So was " trying" to see if it could be just a tweak ..as what you have done with the valve " lifter" ( very good idea!) .. I " think" it could be just a cut and shut on the Indian clutch pushrod lifter to correct ratios and lifts but I'm on holiday for a month so won't be anywhere near a bike ..... Thanks for all the effort you do in your videos ... Good stuff

I wonder what will happen now the enfield has some Japanese DNA, its an elegant solution.
