I thought this was the bike for me! I wanted it more than needed it, I really didn't think things through.

The Himalayan has a very aggressive maintenance schedule. It's part of the benefit of being able to repair it or service just about anything out in some barren lands. Every 3000 miles the valve clearances need checked and adjusted, so that means fuel tank has to come off, and you get some wonderful ports on the engine to do the work. Every other bike, the head has to come off. The Himalayan has a few minor flaws, but you need to be the sort that is okay with that. These bikes just need some extra love. Edit: Also your comment about the throttle, that is something you should be checking often, before every ride. Everything needs to be properly lubricated and adjusted. Same with the gearshifts. You are simply changing incorrectly.

The reflector can be reattached and maybe use a bit of lock tight. The fuel gauge is probably due to the connector under the tank, had this fail on mine. Gear changes on mine has improved and smoothed out as the miles have ran up (over 16K now). I love my Himi, I love it's low down chugability, I love it's simplicity and economy and the fact that if it gets dirty, falls over or something falls off it I don't mind as much, I also love the fact that I have a Suzuki Vstrom 1050 too. Both my bikes I will keep

Yea, I agree. I have thought of buying a 650 Super Meteor for the highways. The Himmy is a fun bike in its element which is off road and on secondary roads. The Fuel X Pro fixed the lean engine and it does much better with more torque and smoother acceleration. It is definitely more fun to ride now as you can feel the solid torque. The speedometer rattled to pieces like his did and I just opened it up, took out all the broken plastic and screws and glued it back together with super flexible polymer glue. No more vibration damage there. I did the same thing to the directional that vibrated apart. And I have plenty more glue for anyone else who wants to vibrate off. With this bike you have to be flexible and just role with the punches. Its like owning a Harley.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is just one Make Model… there is a reason for this, no bike is for everyone…. I found the way it rides is superb (clunky gear shifts my biggest gripe) and stupid enjoyable. I got exactly what I thought I would get…. I hope you find what you are looking for.

thanks for your views, I've driven motorbikes since I got my Licence at 18 ( before car licence) and I drive it as my main means of transport ( My wife uses the car). So I've had my share of bikes, and I was scary of the lack of power of the Himalayan. But I'm glad I made the choice to buy one. I gave myself the chance to fall in love with this bike and I'll keep it until I'm unfit tot drive because off old age. I already had some problems with it, but it's the same as driving a Moto Guzzi. When you buy a Moto Guzzi it is not finished. You have to finish it. You start a journey together.

A lot of the reviews are quite misleading, we see people like norally on amazing terrain where this bike shines, or in america where you can ride pretty much anywhere but here in the UK, that sense of rugged adventure seems so impossible to find. This bike was build for the himalayans, not the As and b roads filled with fast modern cars up your arse. That said, i am hoping to buy one next weekend after selling my G310GS 😂

I liked your video. A lot of lessons here for novice motorcyclists. I think the Himalayan was a reasonable choice for a bike to start on. It hasn’t cost you a lot and it’s helped you clarify your thoughts about what you like in a bike. I have owned several Hondas and they are an excellent choice. In fact all the Japanese brands are good options. The Transalp looks to be an excellent bike. I hope you really enjoy it.

@@jimmyjam8795 If it’s not working for you, no point hanging on to it. We’ve been riding for a similar length of time. I’ve had quite a few bikes myself. For me, here in Australia, the 650 singles are the optimum engine size for an adventure bike. We have very heavily policed speed limits, so you don’t need a bike that sits on more than 110 km/h. The 650 singles do that easily. I have had smaller bikes but they can really struggle to maintain highway speeds with a stiff headwind or steep hills. The 650’s don’t have that problem. We also have a lot of sandy roads that are hard work on the bigger bikes. Unfortunately the only option now available in Australia is the KLR650. The DR650 can no longer be sold here and Yamaha no longer sell the 660 Tenere.

Hi Errol, can I just say something from the heart ? As I see it, you know jack shit about motorcycles. there, I've said it. Buying a Himalayan is a purchase based for the most part by experienced motorcyclists who have been there, done it, have had a wide range of bikes plus a T-shirt or 2. As a result they KNOW what they want/need and what they don't want/need. Speaking for meself I've probably had 20+ bikes over 30+ years and during that time I've had lots of adrenaline-filled powerful bikes, trail bikes, tourers, sports bikes etc (having started off with a Yammy TDR125 like yours). I know what I want from a bike for me at my age, bike usage, available time and funds - and what I came to in 2022 and 7,000 kms ago is that I want/need a Himmy. So I bought one and initially wasn't sure about it but over time and kms I have come to really love this bike. She does everything I want to do, without slurping fuel (about 100 mpg), with a beautiful exhaust sound (I took the exhaust OFF !) enough power to go as fast as I want, and overtake anything I want. I almost never go on motorways because for me there's no pleasure. I ride A and B roads with as many bends left and right as I can find because I believe that's what bike riding is about. Even though you've done Mongolia - I take my hat off to you for that - you sound to be very new to bike riding and somewhat seduced by power and speed - which we all have - but biking is about so much more than that. Biking is about adventures large and small, going out with your mates or on your own and taking the paths less travelled. So to summarise, you sound like a great guy, but you need to ride (once you've got your ticket) lots and lots of bikes, then maybe you'll see the light of the Himmy. Wishing you the very best of luck, cheers Dave.

You’re right!…, I know Jack shit! As you say and I’ve made that quite clear in my videos. Who knows… in a few years I may change my mind again when I have a T-shirt or 2. Thanks for watching.

I think the trailer of the Himalayan encapsulated it quiet well - just hop on and ride wherever with whomever. The Himalayan was my second bike and now that I'm on my third, which on paper is better than the Himalayan - less weight, more power, more off-road and on road capable, arguably better more "finished" look... I miss it dearly. The Himalayan just has its own charakter that completely ignores other bikes having a superiority complex, trying to outdo each other, I just adore its swagger.

Thanks for the video and sharing your experience. Ones tastes and preferences do change over time and after experimentation you can find a happy place. Some vehicles demand more frequent maintenance, whereas other just carry on, this didn't mean they're unreliable in use. It's living with older tech and you adjust to the design. One thing that I've noted from user reviews is out sounds like enfield engines are made to tight tolerances. This means they benefit from careful running in for longer than a Japanese bike. I've heard a few comments about how the bikes feel freer and more powerful after 10,000 miles (and have noticed higher top speeds to prove it). I'm not knocking either 'RE or jap bikes, they're just different and it's up to the rider to whether that difference is acceptable or not. Plug and play - japanese, long haul involvement - RE. My old triumph ('79 engine but based on 1937 technology) big engine strip every 20,000 miles to Clean things and new big ends and mains as a precaution) then just ride. I quite like the "idea" of a Himalayan, but probably as a second bike, not sure i could live with the lack of A road/ motorway poke. .... Or maybe the new 450. Anyway, good luck in finding what suits you better, it's an enjoyable process. Cheers

Interesting video and good to watch. It is all about what you desire. Everyone is different. It will be interesting to see how you get on with the Honda. My experience with Hondas is that they are amazing, they do everything perfect. They turn in so easy. They are smooth and effortless. I was comparing at the time a Fireblade to a Kawasaki ZX7R. The Kawasaki was raw and growled. You had to wrestle it into the corner. You had to hold it in the revs and pick the right gear. When you got it right it was amazing, thrilling, it built memories that you could tell down the pub of how you held your knee down through the whole corner. You could do all this on the Blade but for me it lacked character and memories, well at least for me. Im sure youll enjoy the new bike, im looking forward to hearing how you get on. For me the Himalayan has character in abundance, it is really a cheap basic bike but depending what you are going to use it for it can build those memories to tell down the pub. Without sounding rude you just need some more memories to build a more balanced view. Ill be watching the honda videos.

I was laughing because my 2021 has many of the same problems. Last year the steering head came loose and was clunking at 8,000km and the transmission got almost impossible to shift, the engine stalled constantly, the rear brake would release and feel like something broke, the seat is extremely uncomfortable, the speedometer rattled apart from engine vibration, The front brake lever would occasionally lock up and you could not pull the brake. I once tried to use the back brake and it then went out also. Then the left hand front directional just broke apart from vibration, and then there was traveling in Latin America, where the highways are full of scooters and 200cc and smaller bikes. Nothing worse than being the slowest and biggest motorcycle on the highway. It was extremely painful being passed by women with high heals and dresses riding a 150 step through scooter. So I can feel your pain. I have fixed many of the problems, and try to ride the bike only off road and on secondary roads where I can ride without being passed. But the FuelX Pro helped with the power and made it more fun to ride, but it is a typical British vehicle. Cheap, high maintenance, very pretty, and demanding of all your money and attention. Wow, I just realized that I just replaced my ex wife with a motorcycle.... I think I need a stiff drink.

Yes - I've done it too - not nowadays, but way back I sometimes lusted after marvellous things, bought them, and then wondered why when they completely failed to deliver what I'd hoped they would - not because they didn't work, but because the desire and excitement I expected, faded fast and they were just 'things', and things with a price, often bought on credit and having to be paid for for a long time. Right now, I want an RE 350 Classic, or maybe a Hunter, but I am asking myself what they will REALLY give me that my almost identically powered, 27 year old, immaculate Honda CB250 delivers. Thing is, I know the HOnda will be ten times as dependable, and the Honda cost me £650 with no MOT (it passed the next day without any advisories) while the new RE will be about £4000 plus or minus depending on the model. Yes - you are right. I am doing nothing about that itch. Maybe after next winter. I bet there will be plenty of next to new second hand ones going then.

You need more experience and skill development to know how good a bike that is. Whenever I buy something used, I end up repairing some things and tweaking others. That just comes with buying used, especially with new technology. I will most likely purchase the new Himmy 450 when it comes out, or tweak a 411 with an upgrade like a camshaft. I don't care what Itchy Boots or others ride, I know what I need in a bike because I have developed the skills to know. I no longer need a 1200cc cruiser when the roads I now ride on don't allow over 80kph anyway, and when I'm off road, I need the torque at the low end, not hp at the high. At the price you paid, you should have taken it over to a shop and had it completely checked out and upgraded to make the bike you want, but you need to know what you want. BTW, they all break down, even new bikes. And had Itchy Boots not got stopped by COVID, she would have most likely finished on her trusty RE.

As far as the performance goes well we all want different things but as for the reflector and the dash its had a previous owner so it’s unfair to judge the breed on a fault as silly as a reflector falling off and as for the dash fault the misaligned warning lights are usually associated with attempts to de restrict the speed limiter, a pal of mine has had his Himmy for 29.000 miles at the last mot and has actually been in the Himalaya’s, and he has repaired a lot of bits on it due to damage inflicted by him as it is not bubble wrapped, a new clutch set went in at the mot and it has never broken or let him down , so it could be an unfortunate purchase ☹️

A niggle here, some rattling there as it is build to a low costprice. I am a driver not a tinkerer. Still would like to try one though.

Thanks for watching and also the comment about hand held, I think I agree about the sea sick bit. I certainly don’t want to put people of buying one that was never my intention just wanted to share how I felt about it. I might regret buying the Transalp yet? I sold the Himilayan really easily, plenty of people wanting them, so I would say give it a go if it doesn’t work out try something else.

🤣🤣 funny and so representative of folk nowadays, i do hope you are not entering into the world of magpie though and i say that as someone with 40 years of bike ownership behind me - i am 47 for what its worth, i suggest you stay away from the web for a while and ride the bike, do the bike and you a favour and allow the relationship to blossom uninterrupted🙂

Yes it’s a very different looking bike, but I am sold on all the reviews. Thanks for watching

Get a grip on reality. And (please) stop shouting. My youngest son and his partner, both riding 411 Himalayans, recently rode 15,000 miles around Europe, that's thirty-five 'available' countries. They did their own servicing and tyre changes. No breakdowns or mechanical failures; much of the trip was done off-road. Both bikes are still in daily use. So a rear-reflector fell off, hm.. not a big problem in the great scheme of things. You get what you pay for, Honda Transalp a capable bike, but much more money, and more expensive to repair. Good luck. It would be nice to see you actually riding your chosen machine, rather than just a general rant. Just saying.

@@wright-adventure I find you awsome to watch and a breath of fresh are...your passion and enthusiasm is awesome...your find be yourself I very much enjoyed watching...I'm considering buying a himi, I've not changed my mind...speed of bikes for me is over years ago. Rush you get at speed is addictive, and I had that in my younger years and my freind had head on collision with car pulling out of junction and she was going 100 mph at midnight country a road on a CBR 600 she was killed on inpacked.. I've been close to death to many times also in my younger years.... When you get experience and survive you realise it's not about speed at all it's about connection with bike seeing hearing what's around you, gentle turns of bike on corners...speed you miss what motorcycle are about... Only with experience you get this and maturity also... So I feel I will get a himi and plod away... Anyway I very much enjoyed your video...awsome
