Very helpful, thank you very much. I got a new throttle body fitted after mine failed, when I refuelled it for the first time I went from E10 fuel back to E5 shell V Power and it wouldn't start at the pump. I eventually managed to get it started, and rode home, but whenever I start it now it cuts out after about 5 seconds and I have to keep the throttle on for a bit to get it running. I checked the TPS sensor and it was at 0.64 which is ok, and I'm now going to warm the bike up and adjust the idle. It idles at around 900 when cold, which doesn't seem right. I've also checked for a blocked or pinched breather tube. The RE dealer did tell me they turned the idle down as it seemed too high. So I think this may be the issue. I'll be removing the EVAP when the bikes out of warranty in March. Still, I love this bike.
@leuheanrede2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, indeed a lovely machine. And as you mentioned, 900 RPM is too low, it needs to be adjusted, no matter what RE guys say. Trust me, try the idle adjustment and things will be lot smoother, cheers
@johnblaise5222 жыл бұрын
@@leuheanrede thanks for your reply. The bike stopped working altogether. They adjusted the idle, turned the tps down to 0.56 and changed the spark plug. Said it was fixed but it was a pain to start and get running. Was running rich and misfiring. Wasn't prepared to put up with this, so I removed the oxygen sensor and soaked it overnight in carb cleaner. Now the bike runs pretty sweet but I'm getting a brand new sensor under warranty. So issues seemed to be solved for now. Still think the dealer should have spotted this oxygen sensor fault, but hey ho.

Thank you for this and so many other good videos! One question, your reference to the temperature gauge confuses me. This is an indicator for ambient air temperature, not engine temperature. The sensor is located too close to the engine, so it picks up heat and gives a false reading.

Hey mate, my apologies for the confusion. I shouldn't have referred it as it had nothing to do with adjusting idle in this vid. All I meant to say and and show was that some fellow riders have found it use full to relocate it and place it a bit high or even add wire and place it under rear set to get accurate temp readings as you already mentioned, cheers ;)

MY mechanic said he has adjusted the RPM. When you start it up, it seems fine, but when I am riding and pull the clutch, it will drop down to 800-1000rpm. Multiple times a ride, I will pull the clutch and the bike will drop the rpms and then stalls. I bring it back to the mechanic and he works on it and it is at 1200-1300. Go to drive home and pull the clutch, and it is at 1000 rpms and stalling again. We checked the TPS voltage and it is were it needs to be apparently. Everyone is at a loss.
@leuheanrede4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I am guessing valve clearance and spark plug are in spec. Also evap routing is clear and the pipe is not bent or crimped thus restricting flow. If so, we can move to TPS and MAP sensor, first just disconnect both and plug them back firmly. If connection is loose, you would get same behavior as with a bad sensor. and the symptoms you have quoted, point to that Cheers :)

I think it’s to do with the throttle, I put a booster plug on mine and it runs cooler, smoother and accelerates much stronger through the rev range 😃👍🏻

Hey there I would first check the spark plug for correct gap, .7 to .8 mm anything out of range and bike will have cold starting trouble, and also clean it while its out. If that checks ok, make sure air filter is clean. And finally moving to adjust the idle if needed This should take care of things. if not, last thing would be valve clearance is out of spec. bit dont bother with clearance at this stage. just stick with first 3 Cheers :)

Hey mate :) And yes that puts things in perspective, thanks. Now there is some jerking that I use to feel between 2500 to about 2800 ish rpm. But only very minor, which is there because of lean fueling, unfortunately on an FI we can't tune it as that would require an ECU piggyback like powertronic. Upgrading to iridium plug has made some difference. But it was negligible to begin with. So please do ride another Himalayan and see if its same as on yours. If yours is too abrupt and noticeable then we need to dig deeper. But if same then we need to adapt our throttling to it :D Cheers :)

Stocking up varies on seeing in advance what might be needed in near future depending on how many kms the bike has done and keeping a close eye on wearable parts And trust me even getting spares for my ktm are an issue or the rest of the bajaj bikes too.
