Royal Enfield Meteor 350 vs Honda Highness CB350 Fuel Economy Comparison

Honda Highness CB 350 vs Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Mileage Test - Answering the often-asked "kitna deti hai" question.
I rode both the Highness CB 350 and the Meteor 350 on a highway with speeds ranging from 80-110 kmph to figure out what kind of fuel economy will they both return under similar conditions. Footage from that ride is not in this video - it is spread throughout my other videos on this bike, since I shot 3-4 on that very ride.
Remember, the Honda has been serviced once, and the Royal Enfield is yet to be. Maybe after the first service, the Meteor 350's fuel economy might go up a little. But, as of now, due to the lower weight and taller fifth gear, the Honda reigns supreme.
Both the riders in this video weigh 80 kg.
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 in this video has been provided to me by my good friend Jaideep Singh Chahal AKA Boss Man, who runs a few Royal Enfield dealerships in Punjab. I plan to do a series of videos on the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 - I have been given the top of the range bike, the Supernova. The windscreen is missing from this bike as it is yet to reach dealership.
The videos will also include a comparison with the Honda Highness CB350 from a user's perspective. This series will not be about 0-100 timings, not about the top speed, but information that you as a rider will find helpful.

I will give full credit to RE for bringing such a wonderful bike despite of RE's reputation against the Honda which is well known for smoother engines. After 1st service meteor will match cb 350 in terms of mileage,Despite of 10 kg more curb weight. Plus point of RE is suspension and plush seat.Also the new engine is as smooth as Honda little bit vibration may exist.

@@detachedloop1004 Hmm true I guess. But it's a Honda so it's safe to assume quality to be superior. It also accelerates better( in the first 4 gears), brakes better, has a higher cruising speed ,higher top speed and gives slightly better mileage in 5th gear. That being said the RE makes far more sense for long distance cruising as parts and servicing would be stress free and available everywhere and is also a cheaper bike to buy and get insured.

I test rode cb250 and meteor both. But i felt more nervous on cornering with meteor than on cb350. Can u give ur experience on cornering of both bikes. (PS I understand both are not sports bike to lean a lot. But confidence on cornering is a major factor for me while choosing a bike especially on mountain roads)

Taller gearing on the Honda plus 10 kgs lighter, results in this extra 2 km. So it's a trade off. Now if this mileage is maintained after 25K Kms then we can fathom the true build quality of each bike. Yet overall well matched.

The new engine installed in RE Meteor is an S.O.H.C rather than an obsolete Push Rod Tappet technology engine unlike other RE bikes. That is the reason why the engine is smooth. But this is nothing Out-Of-The-World technology engine. Honda is already using such technology for a very long time that is why it's Honda CB350 H'ness bike, is so very buttery smooth engine.

Abhinav, a suggestion. You don't have to do a full tank every time you want to check the average. The method I use is to wait for my bike to reach the reserve, and I start the trip meter. Now I take my bike to the nearest petrol station which is say 20km away. I get my tank filled with say 1 litre of petrol, and continue riding it on a regular basis. Then I take a note of the trip meter when my bike reaches reserve again. This gives me the kms my bike can ride with 1 litre of petrol. You can fill more than 1L, and just do the math, by dividing the kms ridden by the litres of petrol filled to get the mileage. Simple logic is that the amount of petrol needed to cover those 20km goes into refilling the reserve tank. And the remaining petrol is the amount of petrol you will require to cover the kms you will ride before reaching reserve again.
