I can't comment on the servicing costs of the Meteor but I can only go by my past experience with RE service and maintenance. There is much more to just service costs. How do you factor in leaky gaskets & engine oil, failed fuel pumps, failed wiring harness, breather pipes, leaking front forks, conset problems, worn sprockets and chain replacements, failed console, failed ignition key/lock, pitted and rusting chrome, faded paint, ..the list goes on. This is all billed to the customer despite the fact that the bike being serviced regularly (as per RE recommendations) at authorized RE Service center. My Thunderbird has done 65000 kms in 5 years. I bought it for Rs 2 lacs+ and have spent almost a similar amount on service and maintenance. I am not sure how that compares with other bike manufacturers but my son thinks I am daft. I too have built a relationship with the service centre and the mechanics are overworked due to the volumes. Most are quality related issues. And it comes at a heavy cost to customer and Brand RE. Hopefully with the Meteor, RE have made a conscious decision to focus on quality and treat it's customers with greater respect. I appreciate your YT channel...refreshingly different from the 'advertorials'.

If this is a derivative of the interceptor engine, then RE should use fully synthetic oil. Semi-synth and the full oil change interval are prescribed to cut down on costs. But, as far as the bike is concerned it should do with a full change and not just a top up. Semi synthetic oil does not remain viscous for that long. The ideal interval with semi Synth is to change at 4000 kms. 5000 or 10,000 is actually stretching it too far. This is one of the reasons why I have started going to a more reliable outside mechanic who knows what's good for the engine. What RE does is just cutting costs. That's why long term I would prefer the Honda any day. They have got the oil and the interval right. Also as you said, the service experience will be a lot better overall even after considering that the quality of service might drop as volumes increase. RE that way is going to be even more over burdened in the service department if they plan on going through with releasing 28 bikes in the next 7 years. The more discerning customers should go for the Honda in my view

In short the quality of service which everyone is currently receiving from RE may deteriorate even more in the coming future. This I am saying on the basis of service quality which I am receiving in Kerala.

You've done an excellent job of explaining the simplicities and have been soo clear, it was a pleasure to view your videos and gain some knowledge and insight into the working and functionings. Thank you for your effort Mr. Abhinav. On a very serious note, following the comment of another person, I really think you've done a splendid job on covering the actual essentials that matter to a common man who's here to know about the bike and you definitely have done a better job than those big Auto KZbin channels. just to sum up all these numbers(in round figures) for first 2 years RE With 4 free :1000 + 450(assuming top up) +1100+ 450 = 3000 max CB with 3 free : 1500+ 1500+1500+ 2300 = 6800 max in all other service RE annual : 1900 + 1250 = 3150 with one semi synth oil change and top up on the old oil CB annual 2300 + 2300 = 4600 with two full synth oil changes now Honda's service quality will most likely take a downward turn than what u witnessed(numbers obviously) but RE will stay the same. End decision : downgraded to DLX black (whos going to buy and use a parani/Sena); Delivery next week. Thanks Abhinav ! was leaning towards the BAJAJ 250 options just when the CB350 launched, got confused, waited till meteor and fortunately found you in suggestions after watching the R18 build and an interceptor exhaust video. hopefully a year later when the honda twin and the RE twin cruiser launch you will come in handy again along with some other willing relative :)

Just a personal opinion on my experience with classic 350. RE is famous for these low cost initial service and attracts ppl to service centres. Find fault with 90% good parts and advice to change the entire part. This is how most service centres work, any brand , and mostly I have personal experience with RE manytimes. Like if u agree.
@sinuslebastian6366
@sinuslebastian6366 3 жыл бұрын
It actually heavily depends on the center you choose as Abhinav noted too. I've had friends who own REs and are exteemely happy with their service experience with RE. This is in Bengaluru BTW. On a side note, if you know the service center is doing this, why not try a different one? I mean there are literally 100s of them in any city. Just a thought....

Damn! This was such a gem of a comparison. Informative and So well articulated! I am confused between Meteor 350 and Highness CB 350. While weighing down the pros and cons of both I had put "Low Maintenance" in CB 350. I did so because you'll come across maximum people saying RE is expensive to maintain. I read this at so many places (Mostly people and not some aware critics) I assume everyone is thinking about Classic whenever they talk about RE being expensive or maybe they are hating on RE for no reason.. But anyways this video just gave me a reality check. I never thought that it would be cheaper than Honda :p I do want to go for a Meteor and it gave me another reason to pursue it. Filming not allowed. 2. Neb Sarai: Similar scenario...wet wash happens about 20-30 meters away from the Service center at a private washing fecility. Filming not allowed 3. Karol Bagh: Similar scenario here as well... crowded af...no wet wash at the station and filming not allowed as usual. They are really keeping big play in the clutch now unlike our Interceptor which needs only 4mm play like most other Motorcycles. Very good and detailed video.

By the books Meteor350 service cost is cheaper then the earlier models in 350cc segment (classic,TBird) mainly because of oil quantity and service interval/frequency. Oil quantity for UCE 350cc engines is 2.75lt and frequency is every 3 months in which oil change is every time. But the catch is untimely repairs, parts giving away because of poor quality or sudden exp out of the blue that used to happen in earlier UCE 350cc and 500cc models. However for Meteor only time will tell, wait and watch. Par RE kee bhi legacy hai, inn kee bikes hamesha tadhi kheer hee rahi hain, not simple peace of mind type bikes.

Quite an effort to bring the data together.. I am not sure if any of the "leading" KZbin channels or automotive journalists do such comprehensive analysis.. We are so used to watching automotive movies with unnecessary music and dialogues in the name of automotive journalism..Feels very good to see such in depth analysis with well compile data brought together for the viewers!! A bit of graphical representation would have helped more..showing the timelines and stuff like that..but this is already A1 automotive journalism!! Kudos!!

Had a similar experience at a TATA Motors service workshop, very disappointing. Volkswagen on the other hand allows you to be there even for the whole day, at least where I get my service done IMO the service centres should allow customers to be present with their vehicles. It speaks well on their behalf and works as a form of feedback as well where customers themselves pinpoint the wrong. And not to forget, it's the customer's property, they have a right to see what goes on about.

Very much realistic and data driven perspective to the newly launched. Hats-off to that! And obviously thats what you guys are here for sure😉 Moreover, talking about the after service deals that RE offers, they have to look closely on these factors, atleast to the new platforms they are coming up with, coz the audience that caters these kinda wheels, need more attention towards the after sales thing rather spending chunks on sales and promotions.

Conclusion is this if u want a Long life engine and stress free bike Go for Honda CB 350... Why 1 ltr oil will be same in meteor after draing will it not affect the new oil... Go for the CB 350.. Thanks Abhinav for sharing this Imp. Data atleast people who will go for the meteor service will exactly know what to change specifically for those who will service this motorcycle to local mechanics.. Or poor RE service center... When you said Tapet adjustment OMG if we have to adjust tappet for the new engine then i guess RE has made this in hurry... Love Honda Always but Alas here in india people don't know about Honda..

Hi abhinav....I am a new person in the motor world, a novice. But learnt a lot about bikes by watching ur detailed videos..I am planning to buy my first bike... My first priority would be city commuting and touring for 70-80 odd kms once in a while...But I love retro bikes man... To choose between cb350 and meteor 350 i would have definitely chosen cb 350, had there been a showroom in kolkata. But the nearest showroom as of now is 550 kms away from my house...So please suggest this layman one thing.. Should I await a few months for the new showroom or should I book RE as it is available right now? Have a good day Mr. Bhatt.

Abhinav, I think you should ask for a clarification from Honda regarding whether they change engine oil in every service. Because in first service video of Honda CB 350 you showed that major portion of the cost is for oil. If changing of engine oil is not done in every service then I think the service cost of Honda too will be lesser in the coming service.

@johntheaccountant5594
@johntheaccountant5594 3 жыл бұрын
Those long term service costs are a big difference but the RE is not having as many oil changes. I would expect the Honda to have less repairs and hence costs than the RE in the longer term. Personally I would change the oil every 4,000 kms on a motorbike. Dirty and poor quality oil is what kills engines. Once the warranty period is over, a lot of people would surely change the oil and oil filter themselves so save the labour cost and change the air filter once a year. Spark plugs on modern engines last a lot longer and again very easy to change on those motorbikes. Once you run out of motorbikes to test and compare, you can start making vlogs on service and repairs and putting accessories on.
