Huh - KZbin removed my comment Kargil was a war - this was just one skirmish. India and Pakistan have fought four wars (1948, ‘65, ‘71, and ‘99 aka Kargil). All of those except for 1971 were over Kashmir and started by Pakistani invasion. When not fighting a war, Pakistan sponsored Islamist insurgencies in Kashmir which carried out ethnic cleansing of the non-Muslim population. Pakistan claims Kashmir based on the majority Muslim population there. India claims it based on the fact that the former ruler ceded independence to India.

History between India and Pakistan is. Islam started invading India around 900 years ago. Most of them were descendent of Mongol, they got the Khan surname from Chengis khan. Start convertion in India. British came with the concept of doing business in India, used divide and rule tactics; and ruled India for 200 years. In last 50 years of British rule all religion combined their force and got Independence from British. Muslim in India Don't want to live together so they demanded new nation with places which had muslim majority. India was divided into about 500 princely state in which pakistan took few and India took the rest. What left without undecided were Lahore, kasmir, Bhopal, Junagaghar, Kerala, hydrabad, Bengal. Sardar ballav bhai patel iron man of India, tallest stutue of the world "statue of unity" is the statue of Sardar ballav bhai patel, he was the person who brings all the princely state together and made India, the current India. Leader of Pakistan after losing Bhopal, Junagaghar and hydrabad where ruler were muslim and hydrabad where ruler and large population were muslim, he instructed people to start killing non Muslim, so bloodbath started in Lahore - punjab and Bengal (current west bengal and Bangladesh) many of this happened because last British viceroy of India has never been to India before and Britain has given him the job of mapping India and Pakistan with very little time, just like Israel and Palestine. After the bloodbath Pakistan able to took Lahore, and large area from, Bengal and Assam and named it east Pakistan ( current day Bangladesh) Last area left undecided was Kashmir. Ruler of Kashmir was Hindu, majority of the population were muslim, he didn't wanted to join any side and wanted to make an independent nation, as 1st prime minister of India who was Kashmiri Pandit he said let me handle this and can't able to do shit. Pakistani Prime minister doesn't wanted to loose Kashmir so he attacked kashmir and started capturing the land, Kashmiri ruler scared of Pakistan's attack he surrender himself to India, and sign the agreement to merge India with Kashmir, by the time he signed it almost 50% of Kashmir was captured by Pakistan, then Indian army fought Pakistan and forced Pakistan to leave captured land, in all this fighting our good for nothing Prime minister went to UN and every approach stopped and India got 65% of Kashmir and Pakistan got 35% of Kashmir. India Don't want to loose Kashmir because king gave Kashmir to India and Kashmir has always been barrier for India and major river of India falls from there, Pakistan want Kashmir because all the river in Pakistan falls from kashmir, and Kashmir will be their stragic location.

Even if there ks a survay today 60% of pakistan civilians believe that they won bcz thats what they teaching in their schools 5. The main reason of all this situation is lack of govt. Interesting insights about the fake flank and why they had to stay close to the ridge in order to switch over to the reverse slope if enemy changed positions. I wish ADGPI would make more such videos from the Kargil war. Especially the one about Sub.Major (later Hon. Capt.) Yogendra Singh Yadav or Sub. Major Sanjay Kumar. What they did was something straight out of a movie, it is as if they had Plot armour in real life. They remind me of Coy Havildar Major Piru Singh Shekhawat from the 1948 war. His charge at the peak was LEGENDARY. Here is what he did:- Darapari is a hill feature in Tithwal Valley over 1100 feet high. 6 RAJPUTANA RIFLES was tasked to capture Tithwal valley. The battalion was informed that the enemy did not have enough time to dig-in extensively and therefore could be easily dislodged. However, the information received was inaccurate and the battalion did not have enough time to conduct proper reconnaissance of the enemy position. The attack for the capture of Darapari was to take place at 0130 Hr on the night of 17/18 July 1948. CHM Piru Singh’s platoon was leading the assault. When platoon commander Subedar Bhika Singh was hit, CHM Singh took command and led his gallant platoon against the murderous fire coming from the enemy deployed in well-dug trenches and bunkers on high ground. D Company, of which CHM Piru Singh was part of, was detailed to attack and capture an enemy- occupied hill feature at South of Tithwal. The enemy had well dug in their positions, sited MMG to coverlikely approaches. D Company's offensive was greeted with strong MMG fire from both flanks as it approached. The enemy lobbed grenades and brought down heavy fire at CHM Singh’s platoon from their bunkers. Company Havildar Major Piru Singh was then assigned to the company's forward-most section. He remained steadfast despite seeing more than half of the section slain or wounded. He encouraged the remaining men with battle cries and moved forward with tremendous purpose onto the nearest enemy MMG position. With complete disregard to his personal safety, he continued to advance, despite grenade splinters shredding his garments. Taking over the MMG position he neutralised the enemy gun crew with stengun fire. In a daring act, he jumped on the MMG crew bayoneting them to death. CHM Singh realised that he was the sole survivor of the section and the rest were either dead or wounded. Shortly later, another grenade was thrown at him, which wounded his face. With blood dripping from his wounds on his face, he crawled out of the trench, hurling grenades at the next enemy position. He gave a loud battle cry *_"RAJA RAM CHANDRA KI JAI!"_* (Hail King Rama!), then jumped on the occupants of the next trench bayonetting two to death. As he came from the second trench to charge the third enemy bunker, he was shot in the head by a bullet and last seen falling into the enemy trench. There was an explosion in the trench, indicating that his grenades had done their job.

There are so many tales of bravery of numerous soldiers of the Indian Army during Kargil. Had it been a battle fought by a western army, they would have made many films on these different firefights. Please remember one of the major handicaps the Indian Army faced at Kargil, apart from the sudden attack for which they were unprepared in terms of men and equipment for those heights, was the direction given to them by the political leadership. True they had very few men at the front acclimatised for those heights, so they had to prepare the new men coming from the plains real quick to fight at those altitudes, they did not have the right equipment to take off the Pakistani Army that had the advantage of the heights they occupied. The real issue was that the PM of India had directed the Generals that under no circumstances were they to cross the border and surprise the enemy from the other side, through their (Pakistani) territory. This was because, these were times when the West (particularly the US and Europe) were pro-Pakistan, a few years into their honeymoon post-Afghanistan. Any breach of the international border would have meant India getting castigated internationally by the US, UK and Europe, leading to a situation where the aggressor (Pakistan) would have been supported and the western powers would have tried to step in and tried to create situations for a ceasefire, which would have not been to India's advantage. The Indian Army fought with their hands really tied in different ways and the fact they they demolished Pakistani General Musharraf's Army comprehensively, showed why they are among the best.

This loss of front was across nearly 100Km of Line of Control and therefore not a skirmish but a full blown battle across that breadth. The basic issue was that the infiltrators now commanded the heights over the arterial highway that connected Ladakh with the rest of kashmir. India had to hide all reasons why this debacle happened in the first place and then fight to get the lost area back This is the genesis of the Kargil War.

I am surprised that most of the young Brit’s are not aware of their old empires divide and rule policy, the original reason for the enemity between the two countries. What’s more important is that the Europeans and the Americans kept supporting Pakistan even after all the terror they export. It’s the two bucket theory to support one and sanction the other to keep their war machines running .

My uncle lost his life in Kargil War & Indian Govt & Army did lot of things for his family. That's why I don't like people who talk even a little bit against Indian Army. Becos some idiots sitting at their home don't understand what Indian Army personals go through. My father was also in Army but he was basically clerk, so he was not deployed on battlefield but was 10km back. My mother used to be tensed at that time n we were small, back that time i was unaware of these things.

Chorbat La and the firefight there was out on the right flank of the massive incursion by the Northern Light Infantry (as they were later known) of the Pakistan Army. The idea was to call down artillery fire onto the Dras to Leh road, that lay within gunshot range of Pakistani artillery, and isolate the military positions facing north, into the Siachen high altitude battle front, and facing east, confronting the PLA of the Chinese. This was a salient that had been captured during the 1971 hostilities, and in the village of Turtuk, down in the valley next to Chorbat La, there are still Pakistan Army pensioners. The battle line extended all the way down the highway up until Dras, and there were several pitched battles and very heavy casualties on both sides, before the infiltrators could be persuaded to withdraw, This side-action highlights the newly raised Ladakh Scouts, light infantry raised from locals, and their much admired leader, Sonam Wangchuk. Wangchuk, Major at that time, figures in the video as the local officer on the spot, who sent out the patrol.

History for context: Kargil Pak invasion was the brain child of then President of Pakistan “Gen Parvez Musharraf”. It was a his revenge against their losses in Siachen Glacier when he was the Brigade Commander of Special Services Group (SSG) in 1984. They failed miserably to take control of Siachen Glacier & India took complete control over after Operation Meghdoot. He thought that once Pakistan is able to capture Kargil, they’ll have direct control over National Highway 1A connecting Srinagar to Leh. Hence choking the supplies to Siachen & then they’ll be able to snatch Siachen. However Pak army fails to have long term strategic thinking. Where they didnt account for supplies to Leh through Manali highway (although quite treacherous back then) & high altitude landing base “Daulat Beg Olie” overlooking Karakoram Pass which can he used for reinforcements & supplies in case of emergency

A very, very brief history of India and Pakistan. Following WW2, the UK made the decision to relinqiuish their colonies and the largest was India (at the time it was India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh as one region). In British India, there were Hindus and Muslims that lived together in peace. However, with their newly attained independence, Indian leaders ultimately moved to create an India for Muslims and an India for Hindus. A British General drew probably the worst borders for the split ever drawn, creating modern-day India, West Pakistan, and East Pakistan (now called Bangladesh). The seperation created a crisis where people migrated to their respective new nations, often leaving behind homes that had been in their families for generations. Violence also broke out during this migration and over a million people died as a result. They've been bitter rivals ever since.

Correction the division was a line drawn not by a general but a lawyer from London who had never been to India did not have an understanding of Indian society. He wad given a quick brief and told to get on with it. He used inaccurate census data to draw the line on religious lines not knowing a thing about the various religions. Once he drew the line he flew back to London. Only being responsible for over a million deaths. Just like Churchill being responsible for 6 million dead in the Bengal famine.
