Update: I contacted RTI and they are going to send me the correct bolt in exchange for the one that came with this rifle. I'll post a follow up video when I actually get it.

I picked my 70/87 TS up from RTI last week along with an 1870/87/15. Extremely pleased with both. My stock has some nice tiger striping on the buttstock. Like yours, has a beautiful bore. Fortunately, mine came with the correct bolt.

The TS cleaned up nicely , better if it had the correct bolt . I also saw The Koba 49 video on his , with the stock that looked not to be correct and the same problem , wrong size bolt

Thanks. RTI is sending me the correct bolt so everything worked out.

I have noticed that fabric shim in two others that I bought . One for a No4 Enfield and a Gras carbine. I’m guessing to keep the stock tight because now the enfield is a tiny bit lose and the Gras now fires when closing the bolt.
@usna982 жыл бұрын
It's almost certainly to keep the stock tight. I went ahead and cleaned up the shim that was in mine and re-used it.

Got mine today. Its an 1875 Glisendi too like yours. Overall really nice shape. with the correct bolt actually. bore is excellent. Has an AOI stamp. correct sight. mine has the bigger sight. mine doesnt have that really cool crown tho or any of the ethiopian script. Is it normal for the lug on the bottom of the bolt to come off the track when u pull it back all the way? The track on mine looks a lil short tho. It does have the pin that holds that part onto the barrel and receiver tho

Which type of Danish oil are you using? I think I bought the medium dark but I haven't used it yet. I have a shellac'd Carcano I'll be stripping and will probably use it on that. I tried to see from Novak's videos which type of Danish oil he has been using but couldn't find any vids where you get a good look at the jug.

I have Red Mahogany, Black Walnut, and Dark Walnut. I tend to use the Red Mahogany if the original finish is on the redder side. There's not a ton of difference between the other two. I believe Mark uses the red as well.

Anyone know how to remove the rear sight screw that holds the sight leaf on? Mine doesn’t seem want to unscrew

Sucks about the bolt but overall looks like a nice rifle in pretty good condition considering it's storage location.
@usna982 жыл бұрын
Yep, pretty pleased overall. As expected, nothing heard from RTI so far on the bolt.

In terms of cleaning up the stock, I have a carcano stock that is intact but just really dark dark brown, almost black, will the Murphys Soap clean that up at all?
@usna98 Жыл бұрын
For really dirty stocks, Krud Kutter is my go to and I skip the Murphys soap. It doesn't hurt to try it though.

Awesome cleanup job. I feel your pain, having assembled gew 88s with bolt issues myself . Im wondering if the Ethiopians simply made use of even non functional guns in ,say ,policing duties or ceremonial guards, where you probably wouldnt want someone getting shot, just intimidated or impressed? Ive heard about south american rifles similarly never issued ammo, so beat up, but w pristine bores
@usna982 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and that's a possibility.

I am quite confused what is the difference between the vetterli carbine and a vetterli carbine ts?
@usna98 Жыл бұрын
The TS is a shortened long rifle. The carbine is even shorter than the TS with a folding bayonet.

Do you think the Ethiopians cut 6.5 carcano brass and neck it to 10.4. :0

@@texascastblast5011There are a couple of bits in the Wheeler set I just gave away as part of my 1k giveaway that aren't a great fit but can work. One is the Ruger Weaver 777-831 bit and the other is the Mauser 117-997 bit. With some finesse they work, but may need a little filing down/modification. Good luck!

Did you get the hand picked option or no?
@usna982 жыл бұрын
No. In general, unless hand select is very clearly defined by the seller (which RTI does not do) and I have a high degree of confidence that someone knowledgeable is actually selecting it (very questionable), I won't pay for hand select unless they guarantee it will get you a good bore.

The scratches in the wood only near the metal are a telltale sign of being wire wheeled. Idk y they did that. so stupid. Even if they were super rusty, which i dont think they were.
@usna982 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a known issue. I have a short video talking about how I got RTI to confirm the wire wheeling.
@danm72982 жыл бұрын
@@usna98 oh yea i think i first heard about it from u lol. Thanks for ur vids. I didnt realize just how many were wire wheeled. Ive bought prolly 10 things or more from them and most of them were wire wheeled. Such a shame. This vid was very informative. I wish more ppl would say if they got hand select or not. I just bought one yesterday and got hand select so im hoping itll be an ok piece
@usna982 жыл бұрын
@@danm7298 I feel like hand select is a scam for the most part except for hand select for bore. Hand select from what is the issue - best 1 of how many? If they're all bad you get the best 1 of the worst. How do you know that someone competent is doing it or if it's really being done at all.
@danm72982 жыл бұрын
@@usna98 Thats true. All of the rifles are really beat up and have loss of finish. its odd that the ones that look good always seem to have bad bores.
