Mac, It's good to see the farmers pride in the welfare of their creatures. I am I suppose half Welsh, and living in Merseyside i know the welsh people quite well. Good for you and your special family to also take pride in what we in the UK do, again thanks to you Mac and your good wife and kids.

@@eanjamesmogg9488 Hi Ean, hope all is well. I heard that during the Pandemic Jesus was sitting down for his evening meal and God came in and sat at the head of the table. Jesus said “Father, the world has been suffering from a planet wide disease. People are suffering, there are food shortages and riots. Where have you been”? God looked across and quietly said “I’ve been in Yorkshire” Jesus looked at him and said “Yorkshire! Yorkshire! What have you been doing in Yorkshire”? God smiled and replied “Working from home, son. Working from home”!! Have a great day mate...🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not sure about England and Wales or the American County Fairs but the origins of the Royal Highland Show ( held beside Edinburgh airport)organised by the Royal Highland & Agricultural Society lie in the 18th century agricultural revolution and the need to spread the word about better ways or new techniques of farming. Common land was being enclosed to make farms that Estate owning landlords could charge rent for so improving productivity meant bigger rents. Early history of agric shows in Scotland shows that the owners of prizewinning bulls had to promise to cover at least 20 local cows so that the blood lines ( genetics not a common term then) were spread more widely. Agric Colleges and Universities have taken over but Shows like the ones you have featured still showcase the best each breed and species can offer or introduce new ideas in technology.

We were competing at the Royal Welsh show the year you were there with our Welsh Mountain Ponies as we have done for the past 30 years and have just got back from this years show 2023. There was some in hand (which is what we do) welsh mountain pony classes in the back ground when you were talking about your sausage/bacon roll, Theres no other show like it and its our main holiday. We are frim Bedfordshire/Herts borders but people come with their ponies from all over the world. The Welsh Cob stallions are a spectacular watch with the crowd cheering all their favourites. We are already booked our accommodation with some of our Ponies for 2024, i hope you can return again and watch some more of the competitions

Hi Mac! I’ve seen a couple of your county show vids now and what really impresses me is your enthusiasm for other peoples efforts in their chosen trade or interests. From bee keeping to sheep, cattle breeding to sheep sheering. I’m 68 now and when I was young the county shows were an annual trip for us. Our local show was the Staffordshire (I think) show, this was north of Wolverhampton somewhere, but I think that has finished now, a victim of the consolidation of counties by the government over the years. The village shows were also another part of the year, together with local flower and produce shows. Unfortunately these have also fallen by the wayside by the young people moving away following the job’s availability and not following dads and mom’s passions for flower growing and cake and pie making competitions. It still goes on but far, far less than before. FYI the three counties show at the Three Counties Show Ground near Tewkesbury and the Malvern Hills just North of Gloucester and a south of Worcester just off the M50, is starting, I thinks it’s a three day event on the weekend of the 23 - 25 September, it should be on the internet. Thanks for the vids I really enjoy them. Cheers Mac

You could help to get disenfranchised, English, townies to get interested in agriculture, nature and the countryside with your engaging tone and video presence. Sheep that are grazed mostly on upland areas do not have their tails docked. Most lowland sheep have their tails docked when they are lambs. This keeps the sheeps bums clean and they dont suffer from flystrike when they are grazed on lush pasture. The hills are poorer grazing and so far less of a problem with flystrike.

The countryside around there is great isn't it!? Did you travel the road from Abergavenny to Builth Wells, I loved travelling that road early in the morning. Edit: I know you live in the Cotswolds so I'm assuming that you took the A40 through Gloucester, Ross-on-Wye Monmouth Abergavenny, if you did you would have passed the Monmouthshire Showground. The Monmouth Show isn't as big as the Yorkshire or Royal Welsh but it's great none-the-less, also the Cheshire County Show next to the A41 between Whitchurch and Chester. Also look at Steam Rallies, they have the same horticultural atmosphere as county shows but the have vintage steam traction engines, classic car shows and craft displays.

The bacon you had was probably 'back bacon' which Americans call 'ham' for some strange reason. Americans normally eat what we call 'streaky bacon', which they like fried to a crisp! Most Americans are beef crazy and have never tasted lamb. Lamb is available in a few places in the US but it is VERY expensive. Welsh lamb, English lamb, Irish lamb and New Zealand lamb is the best in the world. Most of the beef and pork in the US, Argentina and elsewhere came originally from Scottish or other UK breeds such as Aberdeen Angus and others. The UK has over 700+ varieties of cheese. Cheddar cheese was invented eons ago in Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, England. The 'standard' American cheese and bread is like plastic, and full of crap chemicals and hormones and colourings, which is banned throughout Europe and the UK. The food in American fast food outlets such as McDonalds, KFC and Burger King is substandard compared to in the UK. Even the fish and fruit and vegetables is 10 times fresher in the UK. They are all FACTS which are easily checkable online and hundreds of videos on You Tube.

I totally agree! Maybe that explains why Welshmen 'LOVE' their sheep so much, as the old joke goes! 😂

I very much enjoy watching your videos, there is a county show close to where I live: the Cheshire show in north west England. It takes place annually in July so too late for this year but its definitely worth a visit, Ive been to the Royal Welsh Show and the Cheshire Show is very similar in terms of size and content, and Cheshire is a beautiful county.

You should try The Royal Agricultural Show held in Wadebridge, Cornwall. It is attended by The Prince of Wales and his awful wife, The Duchess of Cornwall. And you have yet to try The Chelsea Flower Show and other R.H.S. shows throughout the UK. We have more outdoor shows than you can shake a stick at! How about 'Crufft's too for dogs, the biggest dog show in the world.

Camilla is a lovely woman, in my opinion. She makes Prince Charles happy.

@@lizbignell7813 Princess Diana ( whom I met and talked to ) made Charles happy too, and look at what cheating Charles and Camilla did to her. It was and still is disgraceful. If they had not have cheated Diana would STILL BE ALIVE! When he becomes King I am leaving this country! William should be King instead of him!

@@MacandBlair loved caravanning, you can tour cheaply with the family and dog. Being Welsh we love walking up the mountains in my area of Gwent, the best coast lines are in Wales With many places of interest. Dylan Thomas’s boat house at Laugharne near Carmarthen. Tenby being the favourite resort, part the beautiful coastline of Pembrokeshire which has many must see places. Then Portmierion in North Wales, take the train up Mount Snowdon or walk it. Try the Zip wire at Zip World…. even cross the Irish see to Southern Ireland, from Fishguard.
