Glory to God! I wonder how many people have sung/played Messiah without knowing what it meant. Probably more than those who did. We can pray that this yearly custom in so much of the world will reach listeners and performers as they consider the message of the text, and that Handel and his librettist's witness to the Gospel will come alive again nearly three hundred years later.

YES, they sing about the "Lamb of God" - Jesus Christ - who has come to die on the cross as God's sacrifice for my and your sins - and to rise from the dead to conquer death and release forgiveness and eternal life to you - if you believe and receive Him with simple but sincere prayer. Invite Jesus / Isa into your heart and experience your glorious salvation - He loves you so much...

I have too, and listening to this it's hard to understand how I managed. It took months of work and of course a strong and talented grpoup of other people to make it possible, as is the case in many walks of life we assume are down to our own talents. As so often in life, great things are achieved only with the support of others, be they a few or in their hundreds. Having done it once (meaning tens of times) and listening to this, I feel I could walk back into a choir tomorrow and do this again in time for Christmas. Nonsense, of course.

Magnificent. A choral trilogy. "Whorty is the Lamb", a majestic prelude, "Blessing and honor", a triumphant fugue and "Amen", a sublime fugue ... the subject is divided, subdivided, inverted, enriched with counter-subjects and subordinated to many ingenious and latent purposes of harmony, melody and imitation.

And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. 13. 14. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever. 14. To God Alone Be All The Glory.

I prefer J.S. Bach for giant works like this. The chromaticism, fugal intricacies and counterpoint that man uses is totally out of this world. Just hear "Herr Unser Herrscher" ("The Lord Our Ruler") from the St. John Passion and, yes, it feels like it was written in 1975 and not in 1725. It's that incredibly advanced. But for sheer majesty and sonority of sound, you can't go wrong with Handel. Not as complex, but just as powerful.
