Hey thanks for the video but I still have an issue. I have a model 58820 and I have two codes, the low battery and the rpm sense loss. I have installed a brand new battery that is charged to 12.9 volts. I have turned the unit off, pulled the fuse, removed the battery and shut down power to the house to try to clear the code but it does not clear. Any suggestions? Thanks

@@davebrittain9216 Hi Dave! To clear the alarm you only need to move the rocket switch to the middle position (Off), then press enter twice. Make sure the 7.5A fuse is in the controller, then to try a manual start, put the rocket switch to the manual side. If it doesn’t crank and start you will get another code, and likely have an issue with the connection to the new battery. If it does start, you’re all good. Move the rocker switch to Off, then to Auto and you’re good to go!

@@FoxEPS That did not work, when I did that I get the typical message that is is cranking but it is not and I hear a slight thud of a relay closing/opening under the control panel then I get a message that it has stopped. What I did was energize the solenoid to crank it over by using a jumper. It cranks perfectly and does start but as soon as you remove the power from the solenoid it dies. I have an error code of "RPM sense loss". There does not seem to be a lot of information regarding these. Have you ran into this before? Thanks again.

@ hey Dave, it sounds like what you’re hearing the the starter contactor relay (SCR) clicking. There is also a starter contactor on the partition, the part that you jumped to make it start. It sounds like this contactor is not working or has a poor connection. It won’t stay running because the run circuit is not energized. If you send me an email to sales@foxeps.com with your phone number I will gladly give you a call this evening to walk you through a few more steps you can take!

@@FoxEPS The starter contactor (or solenoid as I called it) is fine. That is what I energized with a jumper and it cranks it over perfectly. I mentioned that I hear a relay directly under the control panel operating. The faint clicking is not from the SCR which is located on the inside of the engine compartment near the back of the unit not under the control panel. I have that RPM alert now and of course no cranking. I really appreciate the help but just to let you know I am in Canada and it sounded like you are in the US. Do you have international calling? I don't want you to have pay for a call. By the way I am pretty handy with engines as I have built hot rods, rebuilt engines, restored equipment and so on. My parents had an auto wrecking yard when I grew up and was covered in grease for a good part of my teens and younger. I just find that Generac does not put anything out there that I can find for troubleshooting. I did have trouble with it 7 years ago and called out a Generac tech that told me the engine was blown and it needed to be replaced and it was only the valves I had to adjust so I really don't trust the competence of the local company after what they diagnosed in the past.

@@davebrittain9216 I do have international calling but I’m also in Canada. I’m about an hour south of Ottawa. Unfortunately I hear this sort of feedback often; you’d be amazed how often I get called for a no start condition where another dealer recommended a new engine or generator when a valve adjustment or fuel pressure adjustment was all that was required. Feel free to email me with your number and I’d be happy to help troubleshoot. Generac has very comprehensive diagnostic manuals but they are only available to authorized service dealers.

Yeah but the battery wasn’t the problem, now what?
@FoxEPSАй бұрын
@@Cantfindahable you keep troubleshooting. If the battery passes the load test, then you look at the starter relay, starter solenoid, and starter motor in that order. Failing those, check to ensure the engine will turn, if not, the issue is internal to the engine. I have other videos on these issues but KZbin didn’t like the background music.

These Generac suck. I have about 100 installed once’s of my own in the field. All the evolution 2.0 boards/recent gens after and even before proper tune ups throw 1505 codes all day long. New battery, spark plugs, oil, oil filter every tune ups I do. Still throws this code. Now doing the software update and one company local to me told me they did 20 starters on these things in a month. Even generators a day old. The next day they had to swap a starter out from a 1505 code. Generac is trash

Please advise this to Generac. Personally, I’ve had no major issues. But the ones I do have I fix and claim under warranty. They always pay.

This video was very useless. You didn’t show us how to fix it if the battery is good.
@FoxEPSАй бұрын
@@sakaturu the point of this video was to show the most common repair. There are a dozen other potential causes of this fault, but 95% of the time this is a battery issue. 2nd most common cause is a defective starter.

Thank you for the useless comment though 😊❤

BTW - you can use your brain and GENERAC’s diagnostic manuals to figure out the issue if not battery related. That is, assuming you can read. 😮

@@FoxEPS This guy was on another channel with the same gripe where they showed the quick fix, if the battery is good (red, enter once, green, blue to test, back to green). FWIW, my battery's very old, so that's probably the problem for me. I liked your vid for the info, and for showing how to get to the battery! Cheers from WV!
