Just started seeing this error on my Generac. Perfect! Thank you.

This is only half the process, after getting to this point you need to use a breakout harness and bring the voltage into spec.

I have a 20kw generac that runs on natural gas and most of the time it will not start on its weekly run. When I turn the switch on manually it just makes a clicking sound. Sometimes it works and the generator will start. Not sure what’s causing this clicking sound. Any suggestions?? Battery is good and I had the starter replaced about two years ago.

Is it a 20kw Generac Guardian series or a Protector series? When you say the battery is good, was the battery load tested? Just by checking if it has 12v doesn’t mean the battery is good. You gotta make sure the battery can hold a charge and has enough cranking amps to move the starter. It does sounds like a battery issue. But, if the battery tested good then take a look at the crank relay, which is the component between the battery and the starter.

I had the battery load tested and it’s good. It’s a guardian series . I’ll have to pull up the parts list and get the part number for the crank relay. Thanks for the info. Enjoyed the video!!!

@@LouisS-cs7bh the crank relay or starter contactor relay (SCR) in the Guardian series is located right above the Evolution controller, once you remove the black metal cover you’ll see it. If you have any other questions let me know.

Are MPU’s installed on air cooled models too? Or just LC?
@tacticalpowerpro11 ай бұрын
Generac's air cooled units do not use MPUs, they read speed (RPM) from the ignition magnetos. There is a single wire numbered 18 that transmits pulses to the controller, this same wire is used to kill the spark on shut down. The wire is located close to the oil filter.

I got this error yesterday on my 2 week old 2024 24k (propane) generac. My engine cranked the first time, but did not start, and then after that didn’t crank at all. I noticed my fuse on the top panel looked crooked and not seated properly. I pulled it out and put it firmly back in and the generator worked perfectly after.

Do you have the 24kw Generac Guardian serie? The 7.5amp fuse feeds battery power to the evolution controller. It might have affected the board during the start up. Thanks for your comment, it will definitely help other viewers with similar issues.

this is a good video for getting the unit running again, but you're leading people into error by not properly using a breakout harness to properly adjust voltage.

Thanks for your comment and for bringing up concerns. I will add a disclaimer to the video's description.

i have a 2007 model no start ,no coil spark overspeed code ? cam sensor 12v at pigtail crank sensor no positive current ,any ideas ?
@tacticalpowerpro Жыл бұрын
Let me see if I understand your comment correctly, your generator won’t start due to having no spark and it shows an overspeed fault?
@maxxmasson4263 Жыл бұрын
I had the same problem, it was the crank sensor but you need to get an OEM part from Generac, aftermarket will not work, ask me how i know
@tacticalpowerpro Жыл бұрын
I haven’t had to deal with a Generac crank sensor yet so thanks for the heads up.

Great video, where do you order your parts ?
@tacticalpowerpro2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I do not have a set distributor. Most of the time I end up ordering the parts needed through Amazon and/or EBay.

Yes, I have the 24kw (propane) guardian series. Thank you

A half decent generac dlr would have the break out harness and MPU ON THE TRUCK and the SIB to properly set the MPU voltage
@tacticalpowerpro Жыл бұрын
That’s true, I’m not a generac dealer tho. I’m just a guy that started his own generator business. I’m a one man team at the moment with big dreams of growing and eventually become a dlr, have the break out harness and MPU ON THE TRUCK like you mentioned. But hey, the job got done. Thanks for watching my video.
