I have never appreciated Nick more than I did today. I’m almost in tears over how much I agree with his points about porn, social media and the access to children. I am not and have never been the type that wants government interference in our lives but the internet truly has become a lethal place for the youth in this country. When you try to speak up about this you are labeled a prude or uncool but Nick is right - this isn’t our father’s Playboy magazines. The incest stuff, the depravity required because everyone has become so desensitized is frightening. As a 40 something with a 2 year old daughter I find it terrifying. Thank you so much Nick for using your platform to have this conversation despite knowing you’ll get some backlash over it. I can’t express my gratitude enough!

So apparently this was a podcast! And maybe, you may get something from the original podcast so I think it was a Joe rogan podcast!! Some psychologist, recently. I don’t know about it I just read that this information was literally taken from a recent podcast of joe rogans!! Check it out! Good luck with your daughter!! Girl parents really gotta step up these days. Boy parents too. I have a “brother” that porn really messed up! Like couldn’t be with normal broads because of the porn addiction. I just think it’ll get worse before it gets better. 🍀🍀🍀💜💜💜💜 luck and love coming at you!!

He actually has a really uninformed take on this stuff. No one objects to keeping kids off these sites. The issue (which he is completely ignorant about) is the method in which verification happens. The ONLY way for a site to perform verification is to get ID. The only way for them to prove compliance is to show the government a list of people who visit their site. That’s a huge privacy issue. The sites are advocating for device level verification. Devices are registered to adults or children and regulated accordingly without tracking your online activity. Nick missed the ball on framing this as evil people who want kids to view porn vs good virtuous Texas (lol) putting an end to that. It’s not. It’s dumbass fascist Texas GOP overstepping and creating an absolutely idiot solution vs intelligent people who came up with a way better solution to keep adult content away from kids.

I think Katie and Ariana have outgrown the dynamic they have on the show. There was an opportunity to naturally evolve that dynamic through the aftermath of Scandoval (just as the trope of everyone working at Sur evolved after Season 8) but some producers and the likes of LVP, Scheana, Schwartz and Lala lacked the imagination to pull it off.

It reminds me of Chriselle on Selling Sunset setting boundaries on the most recent season of the show and a lot of the cast not being able to deal with it. People with healthy boundaries might just not work for the unhealthy, confrontational nature of these kinds of reality shows.

It’s really refreshing to hear a man like Nick stand up and be confident in speaking on what’s literally poisoning our society. Thank you for saying this. Everything seems be over saturated with sex, and sexualizing damn near everything and everyone, that no one is phased by it but yet addicted to it. In the last couple of years I’ve finally woken up to this. It’s not okay, and we shouldn’t be silent about it. It’s not good for our future generation, it’s not good for men and it’s really not good for women
@alicetoyou448
@alicetoyou448 5 ай бұрын
It’s not really sex, itself - older generations have been complaining about that for generations and generations. It’s the exposure to unhealthy sex, like the hub, and unrealistic portrayals of sex and relationships. Teens and young adults today are the most virginal generation, because they’re terrified of each other. They think someone holding their hand is an SA and hide in their rooms making posts about their trauma from it. It’s all bizarre and distorted.

My mom is a high school teacher and she simply wanted a phone free classroom. She had rack that kids could individually place their phones in separate sleeves for her 45 min class. The kids went home and complained to their parents and the parents came back to the school and rose hell. Saying “I need to be able to get ahold of my child during the day” “you can’t take personal belongings from my child” blah blah blah. It’s definitely the parents!

It’s called: CALL THE DAMN OFFICE. Like every elementary school parent does. Like every parent pre-2004 did. Make sense. Both of my parents were absolutely miserable their last 5+ years of teaching and couldn’t WAIT to retire, my mom came home crying nearly every day for long periods of time, and it was all because of how horrible, insufferable, and downright mean the parents had become. They really started to bully TF out of my mom her last few years if she made ANY kind of necessary remarks about a child’s disrespectful or disruptive behavior, etc. She taught Young 5’s & Kindergarten, ffs. The parents are out of control.

Jax is such a creep that he made his kid and his wife go to the Airbnb instead of him leaving. So his son isn't in his home with his stuff that he's comfortable around and has a routine. I can even see how much their phones are charged and all that!! FAMILY LINK!! u can get it for ANY phone android or apple!!!!!

what regulations would you implement? Alcohol isnt allowed to be sold because of laws. But nick also said he doesnt want government oversight and parents cant do everything. so who is going to make these changes? I completely agree, but parents want phones in schools in case their kid is in danger. Parents have the ability to use parental controls, but it's not enough and then parents say "it's not all on the parents." Agreed! But what do you suggest without some kind of overarching government oversight.

It’s less of the porn hub ban and more of the fact that they’re collecting ID info through a private company. Aside from the fact that porn is accessible on KZbin, twitter (really really accessible) and tiktok. Yes there should be regulations but let’s get regulations for ALL of it, not just a company we are targeting for optics. Aside from the fact that Texas has the most lax gun laws and enforcement and highest rate of shootings, including school shootings. There’s a lot of things that can be done to protect children not just banning one single porn site.

Sex therapist here - I think part of the issue is that as a society we are not comfortable talking about sex and being sex positive. I think we need to regulate this online content better while ALSO having better, more comprehensive sex education that talks about sex not only as a biological act but also as part of a healthy relationship. We need to also teach parents how to have more age appropriate conversations around bodies, consent, and sex from a young age so that if kids do find stuff online or do what to explore or have questions they have more information to make better and safer decisions as well as have a report with an adult to talk to about this instead of just relying on the internet or peers for their information and then they explore and have a higher rate of negative or traumatic experiences.

My love for Katie continues to grow. She’s always on point, even when it comes to the issue of cell phones, social media, & minor consumption. I’m a teacher & I can assure you every teacher wants cell phone policies in place, but the biggest pushback districts get is from parents. Because of modern day safety concerns related to public schooling, a lot of parents aren’t willing to limit access to their kid. I mean, some parents are calling kids in the middle of class. &, to be quite frank, parents aren’t much better when it comes to engaging in events, like conferences, meetings, etc., they are glued to their phone. My boss went to a district weekend program & watched a parent vape in the school gym. It is, sadly, much more an issue of parenting than community engagement.

Personally I’m with Katie. The whole access to porn needs to be talked about at home and in school. Instead of trying to build walls to block out bad things it’s better to educate kids so they are better equipped to deal with these situations. The government is full of people who needed their kids to work the VCR, these are not the people to even try to make policy about social media.

Re: Social media and internet porn. Yes, more guardrails absolutely need to be put in place to protect kids. Also, we as parents, need to proactively prepare and direct our kids learning for navigating those things because they're not going away any time soon. At the ages of 7 and 11 my kids were exposed to porn at a relatives house and I had to sit down with them and explain that what they saw was real sex but it was performed by actors pretending to enjoy themselves, real sex happens differently, there are emotions and consequences, etc. It wasn't a conversation I wanted to have with them but they were curious and receptive and it started an honest dialogue between us that continued through their teen years and expanded into other subjects like marijuana use and dating. Although it's uncomfortable and scary the most important way w can protect our kids is to actually have these conversations with them.

@@elliecurtis7771what silly reasons. No need for kids to have phones in school. As was previously mentioned, parents can call the school. 1 minute makes absolutely zero difference in an emergency when you’re IN COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LOCATIONS!

It’s not the kids that won’t part with their phones during school, it’s the parents that say they “need” to be in touch with their kids. Their reasoning is school shootings and family emergencies. I have friends that are educators in several states and it’s the parents not the kids driving this issue.

I have a hard time accepting that we want to give the government more access and control over the sites that we can access. This does not mean that we turn a blind eye over the fact that young people are accessing these sites but its kinda hypocritical to act like this is a new thing and that Nick’s peers didn’t grow up with unsupervised access to it themselves. I’m with Katie that if parents want to be more hands on, they can be, and this comes down to family values and morals.

Regarding Kate Middleton: It's most likely Ovarian cancer, it could also be a combo of endometritis/ or crohns; both call for surgical abdominal intervention. In some cases women have had to undergo a hysterectomy (removing the uterus- aka no more babies or period). So, initially they may have gone for treatment if she was say- having abnormal bleeding (menstruation), or more likely fibroids (benign tumours that can grow within the uterine wall), which can cause moderate to severe pain throughout the pelvic region, and lower back. So, she most likely went through an abdominal hysterectomy initially, and afterwards realized the tumors they removed showed signs of cancer. That's simply my personal speculation- do not take my word for it.

My daughter just graduated from a high school where phones were not allowed from the beginning of the first class until the end of the last class. If they had them out during breaks or lunch they were taken away. The principal had a lot of complaints about it, but she was firm. My daughter was so happy with it and will say now that she is so glad it was that way. They actually talked and had fun at lunch and between classes. It can be done, but you need a principal with a backbone.

That’s the problem, though. The majority of school systems are now appointing teachers who could barely hack a couple of years in a classroom as the main administrators, and they are all puppets for the school board & PTA, rich parents, you name it. They have no real experience, and don’t even feel comfortable in their role as authority figures, so they get pushed around and run over. The parents are making all of the rules, and making life absolute hell for the teachers who have actually dedicated decades to their jobs and these kids.

Tom still threw Sheena under the bus when he says that she punched Raquel even though he wasn't there. He's saying it on this season. Yeah he's a great friend😂. With the Raquel thing I thought she went to a med spa and got healthy so she was staying away from the show is what she says but in actuality she wanted more money and waited too long thinking they would give it to her to come back to the show. She was not needed or wanted on the show. Now that the show's back on she's losing her mind that she's not in it part of the attention so after all her therapy that she wanted Bravo to pay for she's right back where she started she's into Vanderpump Rules but it's stuff that happened a year ago she's still living it that's all she has.😂 Attention again is the reason why she's doing a lawsuit why wouldn't she have done it last year when it happened? And Ariana didn't send it to anyone it was Tom that recorded her without her permission. I can't believe that after everything she's still going after Ariana who did nothing to her she was part of ruining her life she was having.

Great episode! Love Katie and Dayna! I have an 11 year old boy and he has a phone that can only make phone calls and text myself and his dad. We send it with him when he’s at a friends house or when he goes between mom and dad’s house so that both parents have a way to communicate with him whenever needed. But he doesn’t have the internet or access to apps. We’ve talked about scary things on the internet (porn/violence/predators) and he’s not afraid to talk to myself or his dad when he’s scared or confused… but after todays episode I’m going to have another check in with him because he doesn’t have unlimited/unsupervised access to the internet at home but who knows what he’ll be exposed to when he starts hanging at his friends more often… thanks for the inspiration because I think a regular check in would be a great idea! ❤

My daughter also pointed out that made me think how scary it really is that ur phone can read u, there has been so many times I think of something but do not say it or type it n exactly what I was thinking shows up out of nowhere on my phone that blows my mind. Ur kids will be walking across the street n not pay attention cus their looking down on their phone n have headphones in it's scary. Kids hurting each other just to make a headline weathers it's bullying killing ppl etc it's disturbing. I remember being a teen in the 90''s n my mother saying no computers in our home cus it's an open window into our home n now being a mother I get it.

dayna and katie are FOREVER my favs, but i wish they had been more receptive to what nick said on internet laws (not that they were being obtuse it just didn’t seem like the point was being caught 100%) - im not even a parent but THANK YOU NICK FOR THIS !!!!!!! like legit, we NEED more people in the public eye asking questions and being discerning to help other people realize that our baseline for what is actually normal in our society is FUCKED right now specifically on this subject. i’m 25 so even i am young enough where i had accts (but more so gaia and zwinky bc social media didn’t exist when i was under 13 fr) that required you to be 13 but i was obviously able to sign up with zero issue as like a 10 year old lmao. and even more innocuous stuff like character avatar games that have people over 13 on it can expose a child to a lot of stuff they just genuinely don’t need to know abt and shit. and it’s super disturbing that we all agree how bad the internet can be but yet we’re not doing much of anything abt it ? plus even if a parent does have restrictions, there are so many other ways a child can access things, therefore IT SHOULD BE the Internet platforms responsibility to monitor and regulate.

While I understand where you are coming from, I think the last thing you want to do is announce your cancer diagnosis to the world. It’s no one’s f-ing business . You’re just trying to process everything, enjoy every moment with your kids while trying not break down in tears around them. Figure out who’s going to take care of them while you’re going through treatment and literally trying to survive.

Wow. Thank you to Nick for bringing awareness to the unbridled internet access issue because it’s SO. TRUE. Let me tell you… kids are out there watching some crazy stuff- and they’re warping their brains in the process. This issue does hit different when you have children and realize your daughter is going to be reckoning with boys who have been exposed to some wildly inappropriate stuff- or the reverse. Its scary. Something HAS to change. As an educator.. trust me.. it’s bad out here. I understand people want to put the onus on parents but guess what… the parents aren’t receiving the onus! Lol! We can place blame all we want but it chances nothing. So should we just let society fall apart?!???
