stern dictatorship, with an appalling record on human rights. But Chileans have
just confirmed President Pinochet in power for a new eight-year term, under a new
constitution that could put off parliament democracy until 1997. An astonishing
turn-about for a nation that voted in Salvador Allende, the world's first freely
elected Marxist leader. It seems to have happened because Pinochet has succeeded
where Allende failed - in maintaining government authority and making the economy
work.

Brazil shows that, no matter what pollitical alignment your government is - left, right or center - you need freedom of market and few or no interventions to prosper. We had a military coup that went politically just the same as Chile, but went the other way economically, prohibiting imports and "protecting" internal, inefficient markets. Today, we are in a "similar" position politically, but Chile is miles ahead economically.

KZbin has videos of Milton Friedman *crediting Pinochet with those freedom of economy policies introductions.* He was also asked by the Chilean senate to depose Allende (the radical leftist groups and their tactics made the Chilean senate nervous), and he was hoping to apprehend him, but Allende deceased himself with a golden AK-47 gifted to him by Castro himself. Problem is if you show anyone south of the border economic progress they revert to socialismo re-tart-o, and claim all the wealth other people generated by providing goods and services that others were willing to buy as theirs and produce nothing with it, re-plunging the peasants into their proper place as a just reaction.

He not only saved Chile from becoming another Cuba or Venezuela, but he also transformed the Chilean economy into the best performing one in Latin America. Today Chile is the most advanced and modern country in the region. It’s neighbors Bolivia and Argentina are failed states. Chilenos enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the Americas. And most importantly once he reached this great achievement, he returned the country to democracy in a peaceful way. This is totally unthinkable for left-wing dictators such as Chavez, Maduro or the Castros. Venezuelans, Bolivians etc all emigrate to Chile to have a better life, but no Chilean emigrates to Cuba, Bolivia or Venezuela...

For example, in Margaret thatchers britian, which pursued similar economic policies as Pinochet’s Chile, also experienced similar wealth gaps, but all levels of incomes including the poor have significantly risen. Same way in Pinochet’s Chile, under Allende, incomes of all wealth ladders, from wealth to poor, have fallen. Also, if you want to create better welfare, you need to cut taxes and deregulate the system which has been proven to be better for a welfare state. Look at Sweden for instance

Pinochet ended the Chilean debt. He prevented Chile from becoming Venezuela or Cuba. He made Chile the strongest economy in the whole of South America from one of the shittiest economies. He raised the standards of living in Chile. Sure Allende was voted in but so was Chavez. What would make you think that such a socialist wouldn't become a dictator? Plus it would've ended up worse. All that we are taught about Pinochet is that he was a bad dictator who threw communists out of choppers but we learn of Fidel Castro as a dictator but in a much lighter way. We hear that he gave healthcare and education to all hence supposedly all his crimes are forgiven? Incorrect. Have you spoken to any Chilean that lived through Allendes time, Pinochet’s martial law and then the 16 years of Pinochet’s presidency after the 2 years of martial law? The country was better under Pinochet’s presidency than under Allendes. My family became poor and starved during Allendes presidency. It was so bad that thankfully my grandmother left and sought freedom in the US in 1972. As my father and his brothers stayed with my grandfather, they went through the hell that Pinochet brought during martial law but after, it was amazing and lots of low class citizens and poor ppl started to thrive, work equally, get an education, etc. so I don’t know where you get your info. I get mine from personal insight and I have hundreds of family members in Chile that agree that the economy under Pinochet was great for the low class individual.

Άλλωστε " όμοιος ομοίω αεί πελαζει"...Ένα κράτος δικαίου δε μπορεί να στηρίζεται στη βία και τα βασανιστήρια και ο Πινοσετ διωχθηκε για εξαφανίσεις τόσο Χιλιανων όσο και ξένων. Αλλά ήταν τόσο δειλός και μικροψυχος που κρύφτηκε πίσω από την ηλικία του για να μη λογοδοτεί ούτε αυτός ούτε οι πράκτορες του. Έτσι είναι οι δειλοί. Η Ιστορία τον έχει κατατάξει ως ένα αιμοσταγες κτήνος, και στη συνείδηση του λαού της Χιλής ως ένα κάθαρμα ολκής που δε σεβάστηκε τίποτε. Δηλητηρίασε ακόμα και τον τιμημένο με Νόμπελ Πάμπλο Νερουντα. Στα δικά μου μάτια, έχει εξασφαλίσει ένα από τα καλύτερα θερμαινόμενα καζάνια της κολάσεως,εκεί που αξίζει να είναι. Βλέπεις, οι γυναίκες είμαστε σκεπτόμενες και όχι πρόβατα.

@@smaragdastefani3338 Φυσικά και δεν έχω ιδέα .. Η σύζυγος είναι απο τη Χιλή , έχω επισκεφτείτη Χιλή πάνω απο 10 φορές . Γνωρίζω καμιά 100ριά Χιλιανούς και όλοι λένε αυτά που είπα , δε θές να τα πιστέψεις? Μια χαρά , κανένα πρόβλημα .
