Pinochet is a hero, the real tyrant was Allende. It was the government of Salvador Allende that broke democracy, his government trained and armed more than 20,000 terrorists with Soviet clandestine weapons brought from Cuba to establish a communist dictatorship similar to the Cuban one in Chile. The overthrow of Allende was not due to the United States, it was the same National Congress that called on the Armed Forces to remove him from power on August 22, 1973. Salvador Allende had been a henchman of the USSR since the 1960s, received money and orders, this was revealed in the "Mitrojin File" declassified by Russia in the 90s. Allende was preparing a self-coup, because he knew that he was not supported by the majority and needed to assassinate and repress the majority of Chileans. The majority of Chileans never wanted to be a socialist country, Allende's arrival in power was a political mistake, a centrist political party, who supported him thinking that they could contain his extremism, was a big mistake, Allende ignored the agreement and governed as a dictator, he ignored the constitution and laws.

It's the supposed goal of every state/government to seek the well-being of its citizens, whatever the ideology may be, but not by abusing other countries, races or religions. I just can't understand the fear of the US during the cold war towards communism or socialism. I mean would have hurt them so much to trade in fair and equals terms with a country like Chile or other countries in the way of development which by the way posed no threat in any way towards them, even if it was a socialist state? I guess it is better to abuse than to be fair. What a shame!!!

We should also direct our anger at Tony Blair who served as British PM when Pinochet was arrested in London in 1998. Blair, who was Britain's worst PM since Chamberlain, used to harshly criticize Thatcher for her close relationship with Pinochet's Chile but when he was in a position to put up or shut up, he wussed out and agreed to release Pinochet. c98an, That is correct. The Castro Government blames the embargo, and useful idiots like yourself believe it. Cuba has open trade with the entire world except 1 country. The only people that profit in Cuba are the Castros and their government enforcers. The regular Cuban people are robbed of their labor, property, and dreams. bartered slaves to tourists and foreign companies for the Castro Government to profit on. The Government profits on their Cuban slave labor and turns around and gives the slave/worker like $13 a month to live off. The poverty due to the Communist Government, embargo has absolutely nothing to do with. The lack of Cubans being able to profit from their own work and have everything they earn stolen by the Castro Government kills their desire to work and produce for Cuba.

+Patrick McCarron It is just not my opinion; First from the father of Fascism himself: “Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of State and corporate power.” -Benito Mussolini "The government, which was designed for the people, has got into the hands of the bosses and their employers, the special interests. An invisible empire has been set up above the forms of democracy." -Woodrow T. Wilson (American 28th President of the United States 1856-1924) "Unhappy events abroad have retaught us two simple truths about the liberty of a democratic people. The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of a private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power.” -FDR: message to Congress proposing the monopoly investigation, 1938 "The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the large centers has owned the government of the U.S. since the days of Andrew Jackson." -Franklin D. Roosevelt "An imbalance between rich and poor is the oldest and most fatal ailment of all republics." -Plutarch - Mestrius Plutarchus (c. 46 AD- 127 AD) was a Greek historian, biographer, and essayist. “This great and powerful force-the accumulated wealth of the United States-has taken over all the functions of Government, Congress, the issue of money, and banking and the army and navy in order to have a band of mercenaries to do their bidding and protect their stolen property.” -Senator Richard Pettigrew - Triumphant Plutocracy - Published, January 1, 1922. "These capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert to fleece the people, and now that they have got into a quarrel with themselves, we are called upon to appropriate the people's money to settle the quarrel." -U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, speech to Illinois legislature, Jan. 1837. "I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of war, corporations have been enthroned, and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the republic is destroyed. I feel, at this moment, more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless."-Lincoln in a letter to Col. William F. Elkins on November 21, 1864 “I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country.” -Thomas Jefferson "All the public business in Congress now connects itself with intrigues, and there is great danger that the whole government will degenerate into a struggle of cabals." -John Quincy Adams- (1767-1848) 6th US President You must remember that the term ‘Fascism’ wasn’t known until Benito Mussolini coined the term “fascism” in 1919 to describe his political movement. So when people before that time talked about money influencing politics that is what they were talking about.
