This is my best attempt to date to give as much information as possible while building a garage for a client, to help you build your own garage!! Follow along, ask questions below in the comments, and hit subscribe if you haven't already.

@@trstull1023 If you go to a later video of his where is is constructing a very large building, he actually uses a bell bottom cutter to bell out the holes. That is needed for the large structure. For a small structure like this, holes really don't need belling as they are deep enough and not much uplift.

@@zettle2345 You might be surprised. Here's an example of a rebar pull test that requires a hydraulic pump to cause a pullout failure. This one fails at 42 kN or just over 10,000 pounds of force. Keep in mind that each pole barn bracket has 4 rebars each. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3XWXnusntyLnJY I will be using rebar brackets instead of drilling for masonry anchors. The only criticism I have is the lack of a concrete vibrator but it's possible they used it off camera.

All the fancy lasers and levels and whatnot in the world wont replace knowledge and experience. Add all that tech to said knowledge and experience and it becomes art. These guys right here are why I'd happily work overtime to afford to hire them, cause I would never be able to be that precise, just not in my skill set. I'm never going to build anything like this but its fun and fascinating watching a master of a craft work.

When I was teaching at BCIT in the 2-year horticulture & construction program back in the mid-80s, my class's age range was 22-55: 1/3 were students, 1/3 considering self-employment, 1/3 were employed. I then had 30 yrs experience in both horticulture & carpentery. I was born into my dad's plumbing & heating business in Chicago 1943, grew up surrounded by Old World craftsmen. They were not politically correct: there were no women in trades. My students used to say "But Joseph, you make everything sound easy!" And I'd reply "No, the first 500 jobs, those are hard; after that, it gets a lot easier." Only about a third of the older students got it the first time. I'm 76 in February 2019, I still operate my Carpenter-Contractor business, though I have slowed down, mostly due to work-site accidents....

I'm going to be building a 32' x 48' building with a 12' ceiling is a few weeks. I don't have all of the equipment you have - I'll need help setting the trusses - but I'm pretty sure I can handle the rest. I built a large post frame run-in for our horses a few years back and set the posts 4' in the ground. I like the idea of concrete and brackets better 😊

Thank you sir, for these great videos! With every one, I learn more about the process and your way of thinking. It's neat to get an overall view of how you build, and then keep zooming in on all the individual details and why you do them. That's super important for me and how I learn. I wish we could build pole buildings like this where I work. With trying to achieve perfect square and plumb, there are too many variables that can easily get tweaked when you set posts in the ground. That's why I like this method. We have the equipment and the money to do it like this, I guess we just have guys that are used to building with posts in the ground.

I use those wet set brackets in a lot of my buildings. They are nice but it's a rush to get them all in a pad that's 120 feet long before your crete sets up on ya. By far the best way to do post and frame construction. Keeps the post entirely out of the ground!

Those are some pretty beefy brackets. Sure to hold the building in the strongest winds that aren't tornado related, lol. Anyway, thanks for doing a more detailed build series. Really appreciate it. One bit of information I thought could have been included is how deep you need to dig the holes for the concrete. It probably varies throughout the country due to climate and the frost line in the winter, but mentioning that might have been helpful. Thank you for taking the time and doing this series. Am excited to see what is ahead.

Having watched just about every vid on your channel, perhaps all of them... I gotta say I really do appreciate the excellence, quality, and integrity you model. Bravo, big time! An aspect of the design for all your foundation concrete has me a bit puzzled tho. It is the lack of rebar to constrain the radial forces on the concrete piers. Typically, the concrete tube-shaped foundations for your building types utilizes hoops or spiral rebar in conjunction with the vertical and/or stabbed in rebar attached to the seat bracket. The concrete pier or tube foundation is subject to forces that can cause the concrete to naturally crack down the axial length of the pier, in a radial fashion. These cracks, if not constrained by radial rebar such as hoops or spirals, can expand over time enough to loosen the grip of the concrete on the anchoring devices such as anchor bolts, stabbed rebar attached to seat brackets, or expansion bolts installed after concrete cure. In climates where there is frequent freeze-thaw cycles, and over enough time, say ten to twenty years, the cracks keep expanding until the concrete foundation fails. The radial placement of reinforcement mitigates that problem.

Any additional input on where you are getting the cardboard tubes? I have checked with a couple structural metal suppliers and no luck. What type of metal suppliers are they coming from?

For one. He didn't put rebar in the concrete mix. Law & regulations require it. I live in Ks myself south central. I tie my embed plates to the rebar. AKA the metal rods under the plate. Bend then to match regar rings or uprights. Tornado has to pull whole concrete pillar out of ground then. Which never happens. I built several things now this way with heavy timbers. 6x6x11ft or 6x8x11ft. on centers. Have 11ft by 44ft porch going across whole front of my house. COst $1,200 Next project I did double decker porch. 33x44x22ft tall. Which I installed my 10kilwatt solar panel system on top of love it. Cost $5,000 in materials enclosed. Which I'm going to enclose this year and double the size of my house. Last project I did 33x33x11ft tall garage. 3 bays Cost $2,500 total in material The timbers I got cheap. They from windmill jobs around me. cost me $15 each. Where cost is the brackets to attach to concrete. they $18 to 22 each. Plus brackets to attack to one another.
