This time on RRC Restoration I'm still playing catch up from the previous delays from the last episode but any content is better than none am I right? So in the episode I will be sorting out the suspension issues. The rear shock has lost all of its nitrogen pressure and is technically non- rebuildable so it will have to be sent out for a professional refurb as getting the parts is impossible for a normal member of the public but that didn't stop me tearing it apart to see what condition it was in and to let you guys get a glimpse inside of a 33 year old rear shock. I then started work on the front forks and as you've seen me do many times before its basically strip, clean, paint, replace some bushings and seals then re-assemble. Anyway enough rambling on an on from me I'll let you enjoy the video.
Enjoy.

Not only your restoration are simply amazing, but also the video quality is, I wonder how many time in percent you spend chosing angles, moving cameras and lights, doing multiple shots (like the washer on the floor), but I can imagine that with the time spent in a single "video restoration" you can perform at least 2 or 3 ones without cameras. My respect for your work!

Thank you so much for leaving that comment, yeah it does take ALOT of time and effort and it makes the restorations so much longer and believe it or not harder to do as most of the time you need to work in awkward positions so that the camera can see clearly, But having folks like yourself commenting on how much you like it it makes it all worth while so thank you so much :)

It's been 20+ years since I made a living as a suspension tech, but 2 things come to mind. The first you probably did but just didn't show, when refitting the top cap, you want to run the rebound in 3 or 3.5 turns. This sets the range of adjustment (if they're all the way out when you put the cap on you'll have no rebound adjustment, or at different points from each other and you'll have different settings on both forks). Second is conditioning the chrome tubes themselves, while not all Need this every time, it's bug guts and rock dings that tear up seals so we always dressed the chrome with a cross-hatch with some Emory cloth. I really don't remember grit, though the hatching was clearly visible... obviously, give a little more attention to any rock ding areas to knock down and smooth over the high points. The scratches won't harm anything, they simply fill with a Tiny amount of oil and give a slightly lower stiction.

Several years back. I did a rebuild on my Triumph Speed Triple's suspension. After multiple rounds, due to seals leaking and poor performance, I found that factory suspension just wasn't for me. Ended up installing Mupo cartridges and rear shock for my setup. I probably took those forks apart 4 or 5 times in my garage, and this video just reminded mean that I still have that order of operations imprinted in my brain.

Sorry to be that guy but I sure you've installed the springs upside-down, I'm sure the tighter coils go at the bottom which was how they came apart anyway. Secondly you've bleed the dampers then layed the forks down, and with the bottom end slightly higher they may require bleeding again. Great job though I've been doing this for 25 years and still love watching how other people do things, you can always pick up something new tips wise 👍

Nicely spotted, I wondering how long it would take for someone to spot that. Immediately after that shot I flipped the spring around , I got a bit caught up in worrying about the camera shot rather than what way the spring was facing. lol
