Unfortunately for Canada they are not attracting top tier student talent. A lot of the students can barely converse in English and are primarily interested to work/immigrate. Not at all what is the primary goal of international student programs. The government has been aware of this for a while now but have ignored it completely since it brings in tons of money; at the cost of the legally migrated residents and local populations.

@ tbh qualified nurses migrating to Canada is great. What’s not so great are students who bring little to no skills with them, minimal language skills(not all but most) and end up eating up all the low paying jobs, all the housing.

I agree. The student pathway was designed to retain skilled professionals. It offered an easy way to permanent residency because Canada wants these top students to stay. But the current system is broken because bad actors have manipulated and gamed the system to get low skilled workers into Canada by faking papers, faking university diplomas, etc. Some of my mom's new coworkers barely spoke English even though their papers show they attended a school in Canada for 2 years and had work experience. Their director was so confused and had to let two of them go because it was so bad.

Imagine completing a PhD after five or six years of rigorous study, reaching your mid-thirties, your province has no dedicated immigration stream for Master's and PhD graduates, meanwhile, others enjoy streamlined pathways in other provinces. You secure permanent job in the health sector in the ministry working for almost 2 years but despite the demand for your expertise, your occupation isn’t prioritized. Your taxes for seven years benefit illegal migrants, yet still don’t obtain permanent residency. Advocates shouting for deportation assume everyone here is fraudulent, but these policies seem to target genuine applicants rather than actual fraudsters. It's nonsensical.

No more immigration until CANADIANS are put first. I’m happy to share my country but we are overrun. Kids growing up cannot get jobs because we have international workers taking all the spots. We have international families buying all the businesses in cities and towns and making profits while we all suffer. It is not fair or okay that our housing market has reached its all time high. I should be able to support myself working FULL TIME HOURS and yet at any point I could lose my home if I lost my job. It’s not fair to me or the workers if they can’t speak English well enough to understand what I’m ordering or saying to them in public settings. We should have done this long ago. We need stricter policies. Perhaps a new program that encourages applicants from other countries to pursue careers that need to be filled. nurses, doctors, pharmacists, etc. lessening the strain on the system and providing a better alternative to filling minimum wage positions and taking them from our younger generations.

@@uniqueunique3836 not the same situation. Canada is lenient and relaxed with its immigration policy. You can go to school, work and eventually acquire Permanent Residency. In the USA, a vast majority of immigrants acquire a connection, some kind of family roots to immigrant in the USA. That is generally how people tend to immigrant into the USA. In Canada, the requirement to immigrant doesn't require family roots. a showing of school is suffice to atleast initate some form of immigration in the long haul. your comment makes no sense without really evaluating the similarities and differences between both systems of immigration.

Canada needs a country cap. Right now the disparity between the top #1 immigrant nationality and the rest is way way too much. ~ work/study permits, 2024 : 49% of all permits ~ pr given, 2024 : 5x more than the 2nd highest nationality The disparity is insane. 1. I actually like the new policies, in the sense that it will eliminate those who clearly have no realistic plans for their lives except to come to Canada and get rich. 2. It will also make sure that extensive research and a better plan is put together by people who want to take the step of getting to Canada. 3. I share your sentiments also. These policies should have come much earlier than they have now, it feels like a last-minute attempt to save face, not healthy for anyone. 4. It will force people particularly students to think outside the box when it comes to choosing a career for the labor market. There are many jobs out there that don't have great payouts but the opportunities to grow are a lot, but most often students prefer to sit in offices rather than go out and find a manual labor job as a first step to create that desirable job. My humble opinions but I agree with the new policies, it shouldn't be too easy for undeserving people to take advantage of opportunities. The new immigration plan for 2025 to 2027 is somewhat comparable to the old Harper government's immigration numbers. I think with a future conservative government under Pierre Poilievre, you can expect a slight decrease from the new immigration plan and potentially a more economically focused one as well. So, more PR selection based on job offers, in-demand occupations, faster and easier approvals from developed countries, business class immigrants...etc.

Please - the Canadian government is a moron. I know someone who is there on a tourist visa, working at a small store - and just got her tourist visa extended. Oh and that person is married and the husband went home coz he needed to take care of something back home. So to repeat - a couple came there, husband went home, wife found work, reached the end of the 6-month tourist visa limit and just got it extended. It’s the fault of our system. We never should have let in so many people. We can’t even take care of ourselves. And now problems are arising. The language proficiency requirements in the past are not effective. I find a lot of workers filling the jobs in fast food restaurants cannot understand what I’m ordering, and it’s hard for us who were born here to get jobs. The market for housing is crazy, and this is sadly building resentment for immigrants. The system has to change. I like to share my country with diverse communities but we do not have the means to keep accepting immigrants.

I was refused my study permit because: "To date, you have failed to comply with our request for submission of the following documents: You have failed to submit a valid Police Certificate from your country of residence." The thing is, they never asked for my police certificate. I submitted my application Oct. 17, 2024 and didn't get any updates until Oct 31st - refused application because of no police certificate. I'm so frustrated because I literally have my valid police certificate available. I just didn't submit it because they didn't ask for it yet. It's also frustrating because they could've just asked for additional requirements but instead they straight up refused my application. Now I plan to re-submit my application right away. What do you think? Also, I applied and will apply again through the Student Direct Stream (SDS)

People being reliant on food banks has more do to with inflation as opposed to immigration. The CPI is a price index that measures the difference in price of a consumer basket of goods. Food is an item that is in this consumer basket of goods. When the price of food increases dramatically, it would push a lot of low-income people to consider getting their groceries from the food bank vs purchasing it from the stores. What caused the current inflation? The answers are printing money and government spending. This was a recent phenomenon since the start of COVID.

Something isn’t making sense here. People say immigrants value coming to Canada for study, giving them a potential pathway to permanent residency. This suggests the immigrants prefer cultural opportunities found in Canada or they would simply remain in their country of origin. Once here, immigrants congregate in specific areas where they maintain their cultural practices and norms with little to no desire for integration into the general population. To add to this, many immigrants expect/demand that Canada change its culture to accommodate their beliefs and practices to be in line with their needs. If potential immigrants believe there’s a better life to be found in Canada why do they want to change the county to match where they came from? If I voluntarily go to another country, or even someone’s individual home, and pressure people to accept my way of life, how can I expect to be welcomed?

Unless you're graduating from a reputable school as a family doctor or nurse, it will be pretty impossible to be able to stay in Canada, since the conservatives will be in power soon and will make sure only the jobs that absolutely need to be filled will be able to be filled by foreigners, since Canada's social systems are collapsing due to way too many millions of immigrants and international students and temporary foreign workers coming into the country in recent years. There is no place for new immigrants to stay in Canada unless it's for a job the country absolutely needs extra people for - at this point it's as a family doctor or nurse.

As an immigrant Canadian citizen, the question i want to ask is:" When did Canada become the promised land to any of us?" Canada isn't the only country available in terms of status and opportunity when it comes to its development. I'm currently a first-year international student, I was able to accomplish and get a study permit through watching your videos. The news really does create uncertainty since my plan for coming to Canada was to get a PR. I am just hoping and praying that everything will work out in God's plan. I put in a lot of work and effort to get myself out of my comfort zone and land an experience here in Canada. The new policies make me feel somewhat uneasy, and I want to continue with my plan. I understand the reasons why they made these policies, but I agree that it feels rushed.

I think this has more to do with the Canadian economy than immigration itself. During COVID, the Canadian economy experienced a massive injection of money printing, government spending and low interest rates. This lead to increase business borrowing and investment. The result is massive labour shortage and the government filling this shortage through temporary residents on study permits and work permits. This lead to insane inflation. To counteract the inflation, the BOC is now increasing interest rates. This leads to less business borrowing and investment. This resulted in layouts and less hiring. Now, the unemployment rate is increasing across Canada. So, the short answer is the government should not have intervened in the economy the way they did. They tried to solve a problem that created a bigger problem. Now, they are trying to solve the bigger problem that they created. If they stayed out of it, the COVID problem would have resolved itself in a less painful way and in a much shorter period.

Many people die trying to do this. If you don't die, and actually enter Canada, you will be living in horrendous conditions until you're deported. The vast majority of people who claim asylum are deported, unless they can prove there is an immediate and legitimate danger to their life in their home country. Canada is full. It is not welcoming foreigners looking to take advantage of our social systems. You will waste your time, energy and money trying to come into the country and you will end up being thrown out and returned to your home country in a much worse condition physically, mentally, emotionally and financially than when you left. Stay in your country or find somewhere else to go. The vast majority of recent immigrants to Canada regret their decision to come. If you try what you suggested and survive, no doubt you'll regret it too. We're about to have Conservatives in power - there will be much more resistance toward people coming in seeking asylum and much quicker deportations.

There are still a lot of people in Canada that demand housing and the supply has not increased to meet the demand. However, current market trend of home prices and rental across most major Canadian cities are on a downward trend. The BOC has already cut interest rates by 125 basis points and the house and rental prices are still dropping. So, this is not a demand issue.
