A proper masculine & bromance story that Hollywood are incapable of making these days. Loved how Bheem represented water and Raju represented fire. The cinematography and soundtrack were top notch too.

A thing I really hate in modern movies. They always talk about toxic masculinity, but when 2 men are displayed having fraternal love between them, they are the first ones to try to portray them as being gay, as for example , Sam and Frodo.

You can't really generalized Indian cinema as a whole, each region has its own industry and each industry has its own character, strating in hindi, Marathi, Telugu, kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and countless others whose stories and characters are a part of the local culture. I think a lot are available on Netflix

One of my favorite scenes in the movie, which nobody has mentioned in any review, is when a random guy (not even a supporting character) trying to flee from the British soldiers with a little girl in his arms. He gets shot, and then the first thing he does is toss the girl to another guy who then runs away, while the first guy falls down and dies. I can't express how refreshing it was to see a portrayal of men signifying their ability to sacrifice their life for a little child. After getting sick and tired of Marvel, Disney, and Star wars movies where the little girl would probably build an iron man suit to escape that situation because 'we don't need no man', that scene really stuck with me.

For the western cultural point of view closest and deepest form relationship means 'must have sexual involvement', in fact what I understood is that the word 'relationship' literally means 'sexual relationship' for the west most of the time, plus their gender fluidity problems also comes into play, that's the whole other issue. But when you see representation of such close and intimate relationship between two males in Indian cinema, then that is very much real life representation, and without compulsory sexual relationship between them. And this is applicable to all the relationships.

That's not a Western thing, that's an American Leftist thing. Conservatives in America are the ones constantly saying, "Can't two guys just be really good friends and it _not_ be seen as gay??" and liberals are the ones constantly saying, "Oh, those two dudes hugged? I ship it! They're totally queer-coded and if they aren't in love then this is typical oppressive cis-het queerbaiting _I CANCEL UUUUUU."_ We're sick of it too. Two characters, no matter what the gender/sex/whatever, should be able to have real life close bonds and relationships without the mass audience drooling with lust and furiously writing smutty fanfiction to whack off to. It's the whole pervy voyeurism of Leftist free love mentality that says Kirk and Spock or Batman and Robin _have_ to be gay. It's not homophobia to see just how stupid this is, and I wish our American cinema/audience could learn from the Indian cinema/audience how to appreciate the idea of friendship that transcends brotherhood again.

I feel like audiences in India still see filmmaking as it was during it’s Golden Age, or more specifically treat it like a grand opera or theater play. The action, grand set pieces, musical numbers, and overall large scale of the film that mixes so many genres reminds me a lot of the movies that would be shown on 70mm panorama like Ben Hur, Sound Of Music, Singin’ in the rain, or West Side Story. RRR also happens to tell a story about brotherhood, friendship, love, and what it means to have all of that and protect it while also showcasing the love that the filmmakers have for their country, culture, religion, and history. Hell the film even ends with a grand music number that replaces the main ending credits that has the director, writer, and main stars dance behind a giant set with backup dancers and some of India’s biggest historic figures looming above. Which again goes back to the idea of this basically being an opera on screen with the last set piece serving as a final bow to us, the audience.

Hands down the best theater experience I've had in YEARS. Reminded me of the classic 80's action movies where the bad guys are bad guys because they're bad guys and the solution is to punch/shoot/stab them to death in elaborate set pieces. The musical interludes also were fucking awesome, and I'm not a musical guy. All the Indian people who drove from MILES away to see it were amped that I was enjoying it as much as I was. "" where the bad guys are bad guys because they're bad guys"" My 2 cents: Britishers ruling India were bad, you may not know as it is never discussed and Indians don't usually talk about it. But what you saw in that movie is very close to the reality of colonialism in India and Africa. The colonialists considered the Indians and Africans as lesser Human beings, due to mostly the color bias that already existed , superiority complex. The scenes depicted in the movie the torture, the dealing with Indians as almost commodities like cattle is very accurate actually. for the British it was not a question of being a villain, their perspective has been completely different and while in 2022 you may call them villains and bad guys but certainly not if you were a Britisher during 1800's.

Not every movie should be true to life, but every good movie gives the viewer an emotional experience, and the more dilemmas of the kind most humans face a movie has, usually the better.

A quick note in defense of the English actors; in non-english speaking films the director will often have English actors speak slow enough for the local audience to understand the language as English, as opposed to English sounding gibberish. They will also direct them to give either wooden or over exaggerated performances to not confuse cultural mannerisms that may portray different meanings or emotions to the locals. It also serves to highlight the differences between local characters and foreign characters on a basic empathetic level with the viewers.

So I reviewed this as well and basically had the same reaction, however, some of the Indian fans gave me a little bit more detail in that first act which I also said could've been cut down and was slow. What they said was that the two main characters speak the same language, Telegu. And that one of the reasons they bond so quickly is because they are from the same region, speak the same language. Kinda like two guys from the sticks move to the big city and even though they're not from the same village, they are both from the same shared culture. They also said the Hindi dub cuts out Telegu which they said is more of a lyrical kind of language, which adds more to the songs, which were lost on me. Anyhow, they said that first act has more a deeper meaning to the people over there. The many different provinces go way beyond Bollywood. There's like 11 of them? All different languages and cultures with their own movies that get mixed in. Pretty fascinating.

Raju is the perfect example of how to achieve successfully what the writers of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series wanted with Reva. His character works, because they show us his soft side when out of uniform, his motivations are well laid out and are greater than just personal vengeance. And crucially, even though he’s ruthless, he never actually kills a fellow Indian - this shows a strong moral code in place, which makes his redemption possible - and that is where Reva failed miserably.

It would be hilarious, if Indian directors started not dubbing, but making their movies in English, alongside Hindi. All the actors speak English anyway, so in most cases, it would just be a double take. It would be even funnier if they hit the Mexican/South American market by using the same sets and set pieces, with Spanish-speaking actors. The songs would need a re-work, but there are a lot of skilled translators in the world.

Well an empire ruled land of Indus valley for over 200 years. Plundered it for resources. Left it for ruins. But they didnt stop there. Their parting gift was dividing the land in four parts: Pakistan, Bangaldesh(east Pakistan formerly), India and independent princely states. Till now their queen has a stolen jewel (Kohinoor) on her crown. Obviously every film of that period would be anti british. And showing britishers from mildly to straight out evil caricatures.

Saw the clip where they ride off the bridge together to save the kid while I was browsing for memes one day, comments all said the movie was amazing. Spoke to a couple of my Indian coworkers about it and they couldn't stop gushing about how good it was. So I got a couple of friends together one day, and we sat down and watched this movie. It was one of the best uses of three hours I think I've ever engaged in.

They don’t want to make a good Star Wars film. They just want a high ESG rating. They’re fine with mediocre product because the money comes in regardless. Your stock price will tank if you don’t push the woke agenda. Blackrock will give you a poor E.S.G. rating, and your company gets kicked out of all the big funds . That’s the reality of investing in the United States right now.

U want more nuanced depiction of British colonialism. Then try watching Sardar Uddham. It's actually a Bollywood film but there is no over the top action, no musicals, and based on true events. The dialogues said by the characters in this movie are actually documented. Obviously it won't be fun to watch cuz it's a heavy drama and it's not RRR, which one of the reason why RRR worked so well in the West is bcz it's not too complex. There are plenty of Indian movies with more complex characters and grounded acting. If u are interested in those , just start with Sardar Uddham.

My review is as follows: the plot made little sense, the action scenes were somewhat overdone, CGI was a-ok, dialog was on the nose and acting was questionable...
