Wonderful, Ken. The Penthouse LPs were recorded by Jim Wilke, legendary radio producer and host and tireless advocate for jazz here in Seattle and beyond. For many years he hosted the syndicated radio show Jazz After Hours. He has an incredibly pleasing air voice and amazing knowledge of jazz. Would be great if you could interview him about these recordings.

Ken I love your channel - I have learned so much listening to your reviews and insights…. But WTF did you not listen to the Ahmad Jamal record? That was certainly the impression I got. Amad Jamal is a freaking genius - if you have not done so please listen to this latest record - if you have listened to it and don’t like it please give it to someone who might enjoy it - maybe Jimmy Vinyl (also I love Jimmy Vinyl please have him back on soon). I believe it was recorded at The Penthouse in Seattle. There have been a number of great recordings surfacing that were recorded there, Coltrane in '65 being one of them. Local radio producer Jim Wilke hosted Thursday night broadcasts from the club for KING radio in Seattle. According to his site: Wilke has worked with jazz record labels to release recordings he made in the early 1960s. These included music by Johnny Griffin, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Wes Montgomery, Cannonball Adderley. There's a great jazz show on Sundays on KNKX in Seattle that Wilke has been hosting for the past 35 years.

Great video Ken! I think we've been shafted in the UK, none of these releases on our list from what I can see. I believe there's Mingus Incarnations and Dolphy's Iron Man and not much else in the way of jazz 😢

@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 the UK is NOT in the EU :(. None of his titles are on the UK RSD list. It's something they should fix. Zev may say something, that doesn't mean it works out being the case! Finding a store that has them is impossible as the stores have to go to extra lengths to get them - and having spoken to them, they can't be bothered. Which means UK folks have to resort to buying from overseas after RSD and paying the extra. Zev/Resonance should fix this. why it started happening last year makes no sense at all. It used to be show up at the store relatively early and you'll get them. Now you go knowing they won't have them and when you ask, you get the same sad story from the record store owner. Which is obviously NOT the idea of RSD

Bizarre that you simply disregarded the Ahmad Jamal album. I have the CD version already and it's a great listen. All 3 sets are fabulous. Seemed like you had a personal grudge with Jamal's music

Yes, you are right. The mere mention of his name makes my arm seize up, my mouth foams over, and I start to bark and howl at the moon. When I hear his music, I crawl on all fours, my eyes crisscross, and it’s all I can do to stop myself from ripping up the tongues of small children and baby animals. When I got in his new records, I instantly started thrashing against the wall and bashing my head screaming. You must have telepathy.

It’s ok to have a personal opinion. I love Ahmad’s music. At The Blackhawk and his first recording Chamber Music of New Jazz. I’ve never been great fan of Cal Tjader but to each his own!😮
