I used the Ultra Hold too! Instead of turning the ends over, I used my Pinking Shears to trim the ends and applied a few drops of Fray Stop. So the mitered corners would hold better I used a drop of elmers glue all and ironed to dry the glue. The ultra hold method was so easy that I made 6 Mini 5 x 5, 4- 10 x 10, and 4- 15 x 15. They are holding up very well.

Much better way than with glue! One suggestion: leave an inch or more free at the beginning if you are starting with a selvage edge. When you join the two edges, cut the binding to slightly overlap, but finish with the selvage edge on top. Of course this will only truly work if at least one selvage has the print or weave all the way to at least one edge. This will eliminate any need to fold over an edge. You can also eliminate bulk by trimming at an angle the folded back sides at the starting edge before applying the ultrabond.

Thank you so much for the tip. I’m usually just winging It when It comes to colors. I used to love the contrast of bright fabrics against a deep black but lately I’ve been drawn to a grey somewhere between a light and medium shade. I’ve never liked a plain white fabric as a contrast so the lighter grey is my version of a basic white.

I just made one but used corrugated cardboard since I had a lot of packages arrive over the holidays. The process worked very well, but since the cardboard is thinner than the foam core, I didn’t iron along the edge first. I ironed a little on the back and then the same area on the front. Worked great! The cardboard wasn’t white, so the board has a darker look since the brown shows through a bit. I love this method because it is exactly how I bind my quilts. No new skill set to learn! Thank you!

This is Great timing! I have seen these boards before. But never made them. THIS IS MY YEAR TO REALLY SEW/ QUILT...❤ I thought this will be my First Project of the year, ( for the year of the Rabbit). I love Chinese foods and this year is my Aminal for their horoscope. That means Good Luck, doesn't it. ha,ha. Great year to make and get it done.

I’m not usually very particular but I just didn’t like the hot glue version. Mine came out too bulky and lumpy. Not to mention the burnt fingers 😉

Hi Robin, Just seen your design board video. What a good idea. I finished my Chrissy tree ornaments and a little basket to put my throw away bits in. Next I want to start some of your string bits. I'm new to all this and really enjoying doing them. I have a very dear friend in South Carolina that I call my sister as I haven't got one. We've known each other since 1996 when we took part in a teacher exchange. First time I'd flown on my own. We have 'crossed the pond' many times since then. The last time she came over was for our daughter's wedding in 2019. Our son did an exchange year in NC before he went to university and had a great year. Our daughter went to Florida on an exchange with the school county band and played in a concert at Disney World. My husband used to go to the US with his work. We had a wonderful time every time we came over and we visited lots of places east to west. Long may you continue your videos. Jenny

Robin, thank you, thank you, thank you and again THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this video! I created two quilt design boards with foam boards and flannel. I used fabric adhesive, but it turned out to be a hot mess around the edges of both foam boards. Even after I applied an ample amount of fabric adhesive to bond the flannel to the foam board, the flannel kept loosening and peeling off the edges of the foam board! This was so frustrating! I almost used up an entire can of very expensive fabric adhesive with very poor results! Your method is very simple, easy...and way cheaper! I am definitely going to try your method! I'm on my way to Walmart to get the Heat-N-Bond product and glue stick from Dollar Tree! Thanks, again.❤

I can picture your frustration. I’m glad you found my video. I didn’t think I’d use a design board but even when I’m making things other than a quilt I use mine often. I might even make a few more. Happy sewing!!

You can always use your pinking scissors on the last piece of the binding that way it won’t fray and you don’t have to turn the edge to finish it 👍🏼 and also it wouldn’t have a thicker finish 👍🏼. And on the corners I think I’m going the hot glue a button on each corner that way the Midas corners will stay closed 👍🏼 I also think it would look cute 😍
