Lori Holt teaches us how to make a Design Board step by step. This will help you securely transfer your fabric blocks without the worry of misplacing them. These design boards are great to streamline your quilting process, allowing you to cut multiple blocks and lay them out as you go along. After laying out your first block, stack another design board and lay out your second block. Cut and press as many blocks as you'd like, then take them all over to your sewing machine.

This popped up on my You Tube feed right when I was going to search for it! Thanks! I had been watching videos on Riley Blake and Lori was using the design board. I need several of these in my sewing room. So easy yet so helpful.

I have made these and instead of using the glue gun to stick the wadding down, I used double sided sticky tape. This was much quicker and easier than using the glue and also enabled me to stick the centre area of batting down without it being lumpy. The glue gun was still the best method for sticking the binding down though! A great tutorial and a great addition to the sewing room! Thank you Lori!

180353 a better method with batting and foam board is to use adhesive spray, even the repositional kind which stays in place solidly after a short while. Tons easier than glue guns.

I got a large piece of foam core board at Lowe's (could do Home Depot) that was super cheap. Took it to my quilt guild with scraps of flannel and duct tape for the back in sev color choices. Shared your idea Lori and we all made em together. Some of the ladies only put the duct tape on back and some used it like the binding you showed. Thanks for your cleverness and specially for sharing. My quilt guild thanks you too. Was lots of laughs all around

I use rubber cement to anchor my batting to the core board first, then use the glue gun for the binding. Works great and doesn't add bulk. Love these boards, thank you Lori for sharing this great video.

Wow! This is so clever! I started quilting two years ago, and started using a foam board to carry my blocks from the cutting table to the machine since they are in different rooms of my house and I was getting really confused. But they would slide around and sometimes fall off. I only started using the board because I happened to have some left over from a presentation. This, though, is brilliant! Using left over batting to cover it so the pieces don’t slide. I plan on doing this as soon as I can. It will make life just so much easier. And making multiples of them and in different sizes is wonderful. Thanks for the tip on this. I plan to watch many more of your videos.

You take Foam Core board found at an art supply store and you cut it down to size. Then get some batting from left over quilts and hot glue to attach it to the Foam Core Board. Take a 2 1/2" strip of fabric for the binding on your board, iron it in half so it can wrap around the edges of the foam core board. Then just hot glue the 'binding' onto the design board. It is really very simple. I hope I answered your question. If not, feel free to write us back.

lol I would do both sides in batting n then create a binding like a book that way I could do double the patterns. create 6 of them it would be 12 squares use binder rings go a step farther put poster board between to keep them from rubbing fabric off. Even poster board to cover outer pages for travel. then you have them perfect for hand piecing too or sewing.
