The last story hit me really hard. When OP started talking about how their adoptive parents used the excuse "We'd wanted a baby for so long and didn't want to lose you" It took all of my willpower to not scream at my screen "THIS IS EXACTLY HOW YOU LOSE HER!" I was adopted as a baby as well but my parents raised me on stories about a King and a Queen not being able to have a baby so when they heard about a peasant woman who couldn't care for her child, they flew on a magical swan to find her and promised to raise the baby as their own. So I always kind of knew I was adopted and when I wanted to know more about my bio parents, my adoptive parents answered every question as best they could. None of this "we should be enough" bullshit. I'm 24 now and have met my bio mom in person twice. Both times my adoptive parents paid for the flights/hotel stay so that I could meet her (I was 4 and 16). THAT is what any parent SHOULD do if they adopt a child.
@dimsufferer9951 Жыл бұрын
What I don't understand about adoptive parents’ “We chose you so you need to be grateful” mentality is... Exactly, *YOU* chose that child. That child probably had no say in the situation, why should they be grateful that you wanted a child and got what you wanted?
Жыл бұрын
@@dimsufferer9951, i feel the same way about biological parents who throw out the, _"I raised you so you should be thankful"_ line. I mean... what? Why should a person be _grateful_ that their parents accepted the consequences of having been horny at least one time?
@freshy21159 ай бұрын
I agree with you on this. I was not fully adopted because they didn't go through the adoption till I was around a teenager and I denied being adopted. But I lived with this Foster family since the age of five. They raised me and by All rights they were my parents. However, my biological mom they did everything they could to ensure I had as much of a healthy relationship with my bio mom as possible. Anytime I went over to my bio mom's place to stay for a week. My parents paid to put food in that house and paid for the extra clothes. Anything that I would need while I was with my biological mother they insured. I had they even waited until I turned 18 before telling me the real reason why I lived with them and gave me the court documents to it. So yeah this last one I can't understand the mentality. Oh we raised you. We should be enough now f that freaking I still want my bio dad and I'm 32 years old and to this day I still don't know who he is but that's just my small little rant

As far as the "spread your wings and fly" story goes: a lot of birds send their fledglings out of the nest, but remain nearby to feed and protect them if they're just not getting the hang of things just yet. This is also why you don't need to "rescue" every baby bird you see on the ground. We're also into wild rabbit season. If you find baby wild rabbits, please leave them alone. Moms only visit at dawn and dusk in order to keep the babies safe. If you feel like mom has abandoned them, put some yarn or hair over the site were you found them (just a few strands). If they've been disturbed when you check next then mom is most likely doing her job.

Wether its mental, physical or emotional danger. The only times in my life where things have gone really bad is when I double guessed that instinct and altogether ignored it. Listen to your instincts. Trust them. The anxiety will subside if you listen to yourself. Edit to add: To the OP with the Story about 13 year old: You need to call the cops. The second story happened to me as well. My mother always wanted to get rid of me because I wasn't turning out as she wants me to. I had baker training until 2006 and became employed in a bakery after 5 months which I lost after 1.5 months due to incompetence. Turns out they weren't teaching me how to work at the ovens so I needed to get back to my parents house because that bakery was 200 km away from them. My mother said I had to find me a new job there. I didn't get one and had only 250€ of governmental aid. The room i was renting costs 200€ so I either had tolive from 50€ or don't pay any rent. Additionaly to that i had 500€ debts from a phone contract. The Bakery went into full insolvency and that's when the insolvent manager came to me to pack my things and drive me to my grandparents. My grandmother force my mother to take me in again. Before I moved out I had a big room that now my mother took for herself. I had to do my business in a small 9 m² room which only had a bed, a small table and a sewing machine. My mother said that I am out in two weeks. I didn't want to become a baker but did so to keep her quiet. After a few days I got a job as a helper and finally got my own appartment which I lived for 12 years in in which I was 10 years unemployed. I didn't get any support from her or her husband. I don't know my real father. The only help I got was from various institutions that are there for application training. In 2016 I found out that I was autistic. 2017 the jobcenter financed me a retraining to a media designer and I graduated with flying colors. I have my own animation studio now but could've gotten it 10 years sooner if my mother had been supportive. She never allowed me a computer where I could work on. When I was 21 she said she would've bought me one if she had the money. Her husband owned 4 cars, so he also wasn't supportive at all. The last story really resonated with me and I started tearing up, to be honest. I have a similar story myself, except I had met my biological parents before I told my adoptive parents who adopted me at the age of nine, took me in at six, and successfully manipulated me into testifying to terminate visitation rights. After basically flipping my bioligical parents the bird in court, they still wanted me in their life. To skip a bunch of filler, when I told my adoptive parents, I was given an ultimatum. "It's us or them. You can't have both." Now, heartless as this may sound, I didn't mind cutting my adoptive parents out of my life due to my adoptive mother being, well, let's just say seeing eye to eye would have been a miracle, and most confrontations became barbed, and I was already the black sheep. But my siblings were with my adoptive parents, and I had a sibling with my biological parents too - who was (and still is) the cutest little angel in this world. I saw this comment earlier, but after talking to my adoptive father a long while later, he apologized and confirmed, it was fear of losing me. However, neither of them were ever around to actually teach me this (I guess I was supposed to learn on my own?). Their solution was to send me to a boarding house for people with mental disabilities, with the false promises of being able to come home if I didn't like it after a month. I didn't like it, I wanted to come back, they refused due to having turned my old room into an office for my stepdad. I had a step dad, who I referred to as my dad, and a biological father, who I refer to as my bio father. I loved them both and had wonderful relationships with both of them, but my step dad was there when I was growing up and my bio dad wasn't. I need a way to differentiate them to others because I frequently talk about both of them. Don't judge until you learn why people use the terms/language that they use. To complicate matters they shared a first name so I can't use their names to differentiate. I love them both even years after they both passed away (dad died 18 years ago, bio dad died 6 years ago), and need to have a way to separate them so everyone knows who I am talking about. My bio father left when I was ten and didn't reappear in my life until I was 21. My step dad was there until the day he died and as he has no other children, I feel I have every right to call him dad. That's what he wanted and it's what I'm comfortable with. My bio father came back into my life when I was 21 and spent years being a good friend and trying to make up for what he'd done by leaving when I was a kid, and I should also be able to refer to him in whatever manner I feel comfortable. It's just not your business how people choose to address those they have in their lives and you shouldn't judge, because you don't have any idea why people call people what they do, whether it reminds you of a game or not.

"Boys will be boys" is what lazy parents say when they don't actually want to parent their child. he's f&%#$ing 13 and should have already learned what is appropriate and what is not, and if he hasn't you need to teach him! 2. "god is punishing you for your sins" so by your SIL's own admission, her son is blight sent down by god? sounds like she doesn't like her kid much either.... 3. why hasn't your parents kicked them all out yet?!?! they torment you verbally and physically assaulted you (cutting your hair), seriously, the first slur and those b*&*'% would be gone from my house. not to mention the stealing! the adoption story, I could understand keeping the biodad away when OP was young, it was selfish but maybe they thought it would make things easier for OP growing up? I am not sure how true that would be though. but their behavior now is toxic. OP is an adult and has every right to include people that she wants in her life. the guilting, insulting and yelling is only hurting any chance they have of a continued relationship with OP. I know I wouldn't want to keep those people in my life. I don't even really understand why they are threatened? they raised her and if they had done it right then that can never be taken away from them. I'm in a difficult situation. I worked inhome early intervention for a few years and worked with a set of parents who had a daughter and son who were a year apart. I became very close with the family. Eventually the kids went into foster care and were really struggling. The foster placement told DFCS they had days to rehome them. So my husband and I stepped in and they came to us. We have worked so hard with them over the last four years and the have come a long way. Recently, the biomom has reached out to me and wants to know about the kids and has asked to talk to them. My husband and I have adopted them and I just don't think they are ready for that sort of thing. She signed her rights away and remarried very quickly. She's very young, but has had two ectopic pregnancies that have left her unable to have more kids. I will not allow her to see them or talk to them now, but maybe when they are older. I don't think they or her are psychologically ready for that and my kids are not her consolation prize either. I don't want my kids to resent me for this choice, but it was a very abusive home and she chose to get remarried instead of working her case plan.

2nd story with the husband who wants to kick son out: I wanted to take a year off in between high school and college myself. My mom refused to let me because it would have meant the child support she got for me ending (being over 18 and not in school meant no more money from my dad). So, I was forced to go to a school I did not want to go to and which turned out to be a terrible fit even if I had initially wanted it. I went from the outgoing funny guy in every school band and play with dreams of being on SNL and writing music to a suicidal, depressed, anxious mess whose self-confidence disappeared and whose anger just became genuine rage issues. Forcing someone to go through with something that will put them into extreme, long-term debt when they don't know what they want to do while there is a fucking stupid idea. It's not immature to avoid college to figure stuff out, but it IS idiotic to attend an expensive educational institution designed to achieve specific goals without any specific goals to aim for.

This whole time I though my dad hated me and wanted me dead but my mum was poisoning us against him so she could have us to herself and use us as weapons to get at his temper. She's constantly making herself the victim saying it was his fault we got taken away (she was neglecting and on drugs) and tries to manipulate us into sending him hurtful messages, taking her surname just to piss him off, wanting us to post pictures of us calling her our favourite parent. I'm actually going through this with my own children right now. I am the biological mother of three children who got adopted four years ago by a couple, of which the wife wasn't able to get pregnant. For the first couple years they still sent me Mother's Day cards and updates. For contacts, my kids were 2, 6, and 10 when they got adopted so they definitely weren't newborns. Well I suddenly quit getting cards or as many updates from them, though I was still getting a letter about the kids from the adopted dad about every six months.I finally received a phone call from him the other day letting me know that him and his wife are getting a divorceand that he's filing for full custody of the children because of how she is treating my oldest. I think she went into it expecting my kids to completely forget me and tried to wipe me out of their memories, including changing all their names which I find insane, but it didn't work so instead she started treating my oldest badly because she loves and misses her mother and has made it known. The adopted dad has finally come to his senses and realized that my oldest daughter will be 18 in three years and if they don't foster the relationship with me that she wants, she's going to give them the middle finger the second she's able to leave the house and never look back.I hope your parents realize the consequences of their actions and that they have possibly lost you for good over this

I never felt like my adoptive mom (single mother) wasn't my real mom. She raised me. But she understands why I want to know about my birth family. In fact they all get along really well. Finding a birth family isn't just about relationships. A lot of adopted kids can have health or mental issues and not know why or where they came from. Having access to family history for medical reasons is important. That being said just because you want to know your birth family doesn't mean you don't love your adoptive family. The 2 are not mutually exclusive. I am also a birth mother. It was the most heartbreaking time of my life. I won't get into my situation but the end result is my son is now 4 and has the most amazing adoptive parents. If anyone asks me about them I always call them his parents. Our adoption is also open and I've video chatted with him for holidays. His oldest cousin is actually my best friend so he has a vague idea of who i am but at 4 there's only so much he can understand. Studies actually show that open adoptions are better long term for the mental health of the child/children involved. I hope this sheds some light on things.

@@vgamesx1 i agree, op has a lot of feelings to process right now and those adoptive parents felt so threatened by her bio dad that they went full control mode over the daughter by feeding her lies and manipulating her through fear, obligation, and guilt. you can have fertility problems all you want but that is no excuse for there behavior towards the bio dad just wanting to have a relationship with his daughter or her even reaching out to her bio dad. he ultimately could have just had an extended uncle relationship with her even if he was the biodad, and it would just be another person supporting the parents in there new life of childhood raising seeing how he felt comfortable enough to allow them to have full custody. the biodad wasn't even malicious either and left it be, but at least he kept her in his heart and wished her happy birthdays. to me this doesnt sound like someone that would ruin someone else's life over infertility issues and overall she should cut out her adoptive family considering its not horrible to want to find out for yourself whom your bio parents are and as an adult she would know if she needed to cut bioparents out or not. its also not acceptable behavior to drag other family members into something that could be discussed between them with respect to each other, it makes me wonder what other lies they were telling family members as she kept finding out more and more information about her bioparents for the family to raise there pitch forks against there adopted daughter. to me that just shows that they only wanted a baby as a prada purse dog and not as an individual to raise as there own. :(

As an adopted child myself I can relate to OPs situation. It has been my experience that adoptive parents are INCREDIBLY insecure and this manifests in many different, often hurtful and abusive, ways. I personally made the decision to distance myself from my adoptive family for similar reasons to OP and it was the best thing I could have done for myself and our relationship. We didn't talk for years, but we now have a kind of truce and have a respectful relationship which I am grateful for. From one adopted child to another. Family is not about who raised you or even whose blood you share. Family is about the supportive and nurturing relationships you CHOOSE to cultivate. You're in a tough place right now OP, but remember that at the end of the day this is YOUR life and you are the one that needs to live it. Good luck OP.

Second story/"spreading his wings": My son just graduated HS. Husband and I told him he needs to get a job (after this covid stuff dies down) and start planning his life. Son is expected to maintain regular contact with people involved in potential career paths, is not given money for things he wants but doesn't need (he can go earn it himself)... basically given guidance but no handouts. We believe there's "spreading your wings", and there's "being kicked to the curb".

Pretty much what my parents did. So long as me and my siblings were working on becoming independent (looking for jobs, taking classes, etc.) and helped around the house, they had no problems letting us stay under their roof.

First Story... OP get everything he’s doing on tape (video or just the audio) and show it to your BF... that HAS to stop! Not only is it incredibly inappropriate, it’s also very DISRESPECTFUL to you and your BF not to mention DISTURBING as (BEEP) I’d even get the cops involved if you suspect this guy’s a predator and based on his behavior I’d say he sounds like one!!!! Second Story I agree with the person who replied Third Story before turning your phone off text grandma and tell her “my phone is going to be off until X time I’ll reply to you then...” Fourth Story LOCK THE DOOR WITH A PAD LOCK / COMBINATION LOCK AND ETHER KEEP THE KEY ON YOUR PERSON AT ALL TIMES OR IF ITS THE COMBINATION LOCK DO NOT TELL ANYONE ELSE THE CODE emotionally immure parents kzbin.info/www/bejne/jne0nnuDZb-Bmq8 Last Story CUT OUT THE TOXIC PEOPLE AND NEVER SPEAK TO THEM AGAIN

To prevent the nephew, all you have to do is put on of those circle things that olds locks on both side of your door. So when he tries to get in while you're in, it will be locked and when he tries to get in while your gone, it will be locked from the inside.

That first story is terrifying. I'm a shy person myself and as such I've put myself into some really awful scenarios because I try to be polite. And that story makes me physically sick to my stomach and I'm tearing up a bit. I REALLY hope she got away safely and told her boyfriend. I'm genuinely worried for her safety.

for the second story I have a tale from one of my past taechers: first he wanted to study History, but his parents wanted him to be a lawyer, so he went for some time to both a law and later a history school. he felt like that wasnt the life he wanted to live so he dropped outta both and later did Language. In Brasil this is easier since the better Universities are public and arent as expensive as Univerities abroad, but that still took years out of his life, if OP's son makes a poor choice he could end up like the person from the story in the coment you read
