First story: my understanding is that with his very first sip, OP realised that this bottle of cognac was something he would like to have every now and then for the rest of his life. Oh my god yes, it's such a weird experience- I was peeling and eating an orange when I lost mine so I went from being able to smell and taste the orange, to only being able to smell it if my nose was against the peel, to only being able to tell if something tasted sweet, salty, bitter, etc without the actual flavour. I could sometimes only smell things if they were hot, like scented candles for a few seconds, or some mince meat my dad was adding onions to in the pot. For those who don't know, a Nuzlocke challenge has 3 rules: 1) if a Pokemon loses all its health points, it is considered "dead" and you can't use it anymore. 2) you can only catch the first pokemon you encounter per route and hope the RNG gods bless you. 3) you have to nickname your pokemon so you got attached and the deaths are more devastating. There are additional unofficial rules you can implement to make the game easier or harder (no duplicate pokemon, no legendaries, limited healing, etc).

The toxin produced by this bacteria( typically in canned foods because the bacteria is anaerobic) is what Botox is derived from this type of neurotoxin. The toxin causes paralysis to the nervous system, which makes sense to be used for botox which literally prevents your muscles from moving. I’m going to school for food science so this stuff is my bread and butter :) hope that helped!

@@dragonslaya3316 Two completely different toxins (botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic protein, and indeed what cosmetic Botox is - the name "Botox" is just a contraction of "botulinum toxin" - whereas the pufferfish toxin you're thinking of is tetrodotoxin, which is a neurotoxic small molecule). They both cause similar symptoms though by blocking nerve signaling. Fun fact: You can't just "kill the botulism" with hand sanitizer, because it's not the bacteria that causes the illness, but rather the toxin it produces, so even if the bacteria is dead, you can still get very sick from eating contaminated food.

That Christmas tree story was alot more tame then I was expecting it based on personal experience. At a friend's party in in the month of June we were having a great time with drinks, music and a bon fire outside. As we were hanging around the fire, someone saw an old dried up cristmass tree on the side of the house. the host said they never got around to getting rid of it and someone in there genius inebriated mind thought it would be the best idea to just grab it and throw it in the fire. I was on my way to get another drink, thinking they were going to just break it down and throw it a branch at a time. BUT THAT DID NOT HAPPEN! THEY. TOSSED. THE. WHOLE. THING. INTO THE FIRE. I knew this happend because in the 5 seconds of rounding the corner into the kitchen and poring a drink after seeing them drag the tree over, the hallway to the backyard lit up brighter than Christmas and when I looked back around the corner I could see that within seconds every inch of that dried pine was up in flames and the fire turned from a tame flame that was steadily dying out to a roaring 3 story tall fire who's heat I could feel 50 feet away like I was putting my face in the oven. So this whole time I was afraid to hear the eventual tale that some errant spark would have caught that haunted looking tree in the closet and would burn with a firey rage for being neglected for so long. Haunting them one last time before taking the home with it.

That second story, op could be feeling sick for a number of reasons but based on my own experience they could very well be feeling the after effects of their worry and panic on a physical level. Last year I did something bad. I’m an amateur computer builder and I was upgrading my pc. I got distracted and, I still don’t know how this happened, but I wiped my hard drive *and* my backup during the upgrade. My distress was so strong that I was physically ill and weak for several days, I felt like I had the plague. So yeah, might not be that but it’s what came to mind.

The clostridium botulinum bacteria that causes botulism usually produces the toxic in an anaerobic environment (low oxygen environments such as sealed jars and metal cans). It doesn't alter the taste and look of the food, which makes it particularly pernicious. BUT it will make cans of food swell and bow out, and pop the safety seal on jars. Her bubbly garlic sauce was probably just fermenting and the panic attack did the rest.

I’m laughing sooo hard over the first story. I work in a shop that specialises in expensive spirits and food. We have that Luis 13 bottle. That thing is maybe the seize of my hand so about 7x7 cm. I can so relate to that Christmas-tree story. Sometimes Depression just is a b-word, so I actually had this happen with my tree, sitting in our apartment until mai/june. One day I decided enough is enough and just cut the branches off and up as small as I could to throw it in the Dumpster. The disfigured corpse of the stem however, still sits on my Balcony as a rustic post for planted pots to hang on lol. This however doesn't top my moms Christmas-tree story. When we where kids, my mom had a handful to do with us, so she just brought the still decorated tree into the cellar of our house to take care of it later. Fast forward to summer of the next year. Its 95 degrees outside, and when my mom came down to the cellar she found, that the tree was astonishingly fresh, because it was cool and humid enough so deep down under the house. So she did what any responsible adult would do. She decided to get rid of the tree (still with glitter all over it, but she removed the other decorations), and prank the whole small city we lived in, in the process. Two or three days later, there was an actual article in the local newspaper, that some joker left a still decorated Christmas tree at the nearby train station, while we had one of the hottest summers of the past few years. My mom is the best lol.

A Pokemon Nuzzlocke is when you starts a pokemon campaign, you can only catch the first Pokemon you catch per route, if your Pokemon faint it dies, and you have to Name your Pokemon.....for emotional trauma XD
