r/Entitledparents I've seen some pretty nutso entitled parents on Reddit, but this lady is on a different lady. This entitled parent assaults OP's boyfriend by pepper spraying him in the face! What did he do to deserve this, you might ask? Well, he committed the terrible crime of wearing Japanese clothing. Yep, that's it! So then the mother goes absolutely ballistic and pepper sprays his face. Hopefully OP posts an update to this story. If you want to catch it, be sure to subscribe for the update!

This is the really dumb meme version of cultural appropriation. It’s supposed to describe when a culture has their output stolen or diminished by a more powerful culture, like say a corporation stealing art from an independent Native American artist and promoting it as their own. It absolutely doesn’t describe two random Americans buying Japanese fashion from Japanese people

I went to Japan in November of 2019, before my home country Australia started burning to the ground. I had a photo shoot in traditional clothing and as I walked around this town near Kyoto, I noticed a lot of locals wearing kimonos for similar photo shoots or for the tours of the gardens in the town. They all commented on the colour palette of my kimono when I complimented theirs, in the basic Japanese I had studied before I went. One, even with her limited English, said it was nice that foreigners respected and loved the traditional dress of Japan.

My school used to have a cultural fair of sorts, where parents would bring their cultures to our school and we would learn about them by trying traditions. Definitely not enough that I look it in any sense, and definitely not enough that I would experience any sort of discrimination for it, thanks to that one privileged part of my being. When I told some friends of mine about it, they were all so shocked, but one of my VERY dark skinned friends flipped her shit and told me I couldn't be because my skin wasn't dark enough. Again, WAY back in time. Definitely not a lot, but if my family hasn't lied to me than there definitely is at least a LITTLE bit.

The traditional clothing looks beautiful but looks expensive. They kinda look like pretty robe dresses (if I’m thinking of the right clothing piece) I would wear one but I’m not at all familiar with the culture and I’d probably seem like a person that’s too obsessed with anime. I love anime I love the art style too but I also love the older art pieces including the clothing and I think ink paintings? It looks quite beautiful I wish America had more of the Japanese culture mixed in since it looks beautiful and I know this may be cringy but from what I’ve seen from anime and the art is beautiful and the art suggests it’s peaceful. I would love to get more familiar with the culture especially the arts of it. I may be thinking of the wrong culture though but I would wear one to special occasions or something but idk if I really would since it’s not my culture. Sorry this is quite long! Basically the culture seems beautiful to me and I’d wear one but I don’t think I will since it’s not my culture but I think I’m going to learn more about it.

In my experience, Japanese people love it when you make attempts to immerse yourself in their culture. I was twelve years old when I went there, and the hotel staff were really pleased when I bowed and greeted them with "konban wa" (good evening). I still know all my Japanese greetings, days of the week, months, a few words like "baka", "kawaii", etc, and some features ("nose" and "flower" sound a lot like my name). Also, I don't see the EMs telling Japanese businessmen they can't wear suits because that's appropriation of Western culture. Or that they can't call "Hello Kitty" that in Japan because that's appropriation of Western languages (as far as I know, it's not called "Ohayoo Neko", (Hi Cat) just "Hello Kitty").

The funny thing is... the Japanese don't really mind if people from other countries try on their clothing and experience their culture. And if you want to talk about "cultural appropriation," this should blow your mind. What is the most popular sport in Japan? Baseball. Where did baseball come from? The United States. How many Americans have you heard scream "cultural appropriation" about that? To my knowledge, none. And the funny thing about that is most of us Americans don't mind that, but these "cultural appropriation" fanatics don't get the irony.

I was at an anime convention earlier this year where one of the kimono sellers gave a panel on how to wear a kimono. Mostly it was about how to do it yourself, wrapping the obi around your body securely, and how to adjust for your height and waist. The subject of cultural appropriation came up, and if it’s appropriate for foreigners to wear kimonos in Japan, especially with the summer Olympic Games being set for Tokyo. The Cultural Minister himself had answered this, saying ‘Yes, please encourage our foreign visitors to wear kimono when they visit.’ So there’s that settled. #Tangerinemountain

£10 an hour so I'm going to guess it's closer to London. The average for my area is between £8.50 to £9 an hour.
@fyrefairy123
@fyrefairy123 5 жыл бұрын
@@beckyhartley9502 Where the hell do you live that £8.50 an hour is average? £8.21 per hour is national minimum wage for anyone over 25. The national living wage (what a person needs to be earning to survive on a 40 hour work week) is £9.00 per hour outside of London and £10.55 per hour in London, and the average hourly wage for the UK in 2018 was £14.31. £8.50 to £9 an hour is living paycheck to paycheck for a lot of people, so if that's average where you live then you're living in a seriously impoverished area. At £10 per hour, OP and their husband are making a little over the living wage, but I'm willing to bet that the only reason they can afford to put money into that baby fund is because they don't take holidays and probably don't enjoy a lot of luxuries. If OP is in London or in a major city with higher housing costs then £10 per hour may actually be struggling.
