Hi Tim! Is there any way to export a set of data, in my case multiple integer registers, to an excel file from a SLC 500? I work with several machines that inspect parts, if a part fails this PLC will count the number of rejects and store that value in different integer registers based on why the part failed. Each time a new lot of parts is run the data is manually recorded and the counters are reset. I would like for that data to be pushed to an excel file so it can be filtered and reviewed easier. I know there are ways to do this on the newer PLC's however I am stuck working with the SLC 500 as the time and cost to replace with a newer PLC is not an option. Currently working with SLC 500 1747-L532, RSlinx-lite, and RS-Logix 500. Any help would be appreciated! Love the Videos!

Hi Tim, how are you? Sorry for so many questions but I have one more for you. The program saved in the plc can store comments? Or only the backup has the comments of the program? Because I downloaded a program with comments to the plc but when I try to upload this program it hasn't any comments, do you understand? Thanks and sorry again!
@TimWilborne4 жыл бұрын
No, comments are not stored in the PLC. You must have the RSS file for later use to have the descriptions.

Dear Mr. Tim : How can we know if the description which we Export from a program belongs to the same program which is inside the PLC ? Maybe, when we upload the program from the PLC to the RSlogix and then merge comments by using ASCII Import instruction this comments belong to the another software ?!
@TimWilborne4 жыл бұрын
Not really. Probably the biggest thing you can do is check that the input and output descriptions make sense with the wiring diagram. Also before you did an ASCII export, there is a compare feature in RsLogix 500 where you could compare your documented program against the program you downloaded from the PLC.
@alearnerforsafety36924 жыл бұрын

Hi Tim, What happens when you put a click on the browse option, find the program and when you press ok button, the Upload Use File is activated but the program is not updated?? In other words, why the option upload use file is activated when i utilize the browse option? Thanks!
@TimWilborne4 жыл бұрын
Hi Manuel, I'm not fully understanding your question. I think you are saying you are trying to go online with the PLC using an offline program but you end up with the Upload Use file. Is this correct? That means that your offline file does not match the program in the PLC.
@ManuelMartinez-fx6ql4 жыл бұрын
@@TimWilborne Yes, my question is why firstly the "Upload use file" option is disabled and then this option is enabled? I think you answered my question.

Tim, I see you are using RsLogix 500 pro to perform this. What is the most basic version that can be used to upload and download files for MicroLogix 1200 and 1500 PLCs? Thanks for a great video!
@TimWilborne Жыл бұрын
RSLogix Micro Starter Edition, it is less than $100 per year.
@kvong6153 жыл бұрын
Hello Tim, when writing a program is there a procedure you do before downloading so the comments are saved in the PLC? That way the next person that does not have the original offline program is able to just go online and the comments are there.
@TimWilborne3 жыл бұрын
Neither the Micrologix nor SLC 500 PLCs are capable of saving the comments in the processor. You MUST have the RSS file to have comments.

Is there a way to do the ascii import using rslogix micro lite (free?)

as far as I can tell, the answer is no. It's a moot point because I found out that rslogix micro lite (free) won't work with micrologix 1400 PLC's

Hi Tim, What if the program in PLC has been modified, possibly having more or less rungs than the original, Will the extra comments interfere with the modified PLC program? If so what will happen?
@TimWilborne5 жыл бұрын
Most comments are tied to the data address, not the specific rung. You can also have ring comments and I have seen them get off but I usually see them match up decently. I may have to play with that more to figure out how they are merged. Great question!

Very helpful. I was under the impression that when you browse and then uploaded the saved file the programs merged. I thought they became one new program. That must not be correct if you need to export and then import.

Do you have to use the application to push a program to the PLC? That is to say, can you push a program to the PLC via (say) C# .NET code?
@TimWilborne4 жыл бұрын
I guess somebody who really understood the protocol and commands under the hood might be able to make it be pushed from c++ but that's way out of my league.
