Anytime Joe won a split decision he set up a rematch erased all doubt with a fury. Pictures of Godoy's face after this fight are horrifying.

Very hard to say...Modern Heavy weights are much bigger and hit much harder than the heavy weights in Joe Louis's time...In same weight class though,"pound-for-pound",Joe Louis would school those guys...My opinion. What do you think?

Joe Louis is genius! In first fight he wasn't trying to control the right arm of Godoy, fixed; Joe was always getting pushed without resisting, fixed; too focused in landing the right upper and defending Godoy's left hook, fixed. Joe Louis is a incredible infighter, no one talks about that! He controled his right arm and throw bombs at Godoy's face. That footwork, circle left and double hook at 6:55 was nice. Great fight, showing how amazing is Joe's ability to adapt.

Godoy had almost everything a great fighter needs. He had heart, stamina and a good chin. Unfortunately, he didn't have either a powerful right or left. Obviously, Godoy's left eye was shut, so he couldn't see the rights coming from Joe Louis. That is a deadly place to be in. What separates a great fighter from a good one is that a great fighter always does better in the second fight with the same opponent. Louis lost to Schmeling then destroyed Schmeling. Louis almost lost to Conn, then easily beat Conn. Louis almost lost to Godoy, then destroyed Godoy. A merely good fighter doesn't learn from the first fight and improves on the second outing. Frazier beat Ali in their first fight, but it was Ali, not Frazier who learned from and corrected his mistakes.

One of Joe’s abilities less remarked on was his ability to manage the head rubbing common in those days as it was tolerated by referees. Joe fought clean. His greatness wasn’t just his physical prowess and skill. There was a moral dimension which underlay everything he did.

that, for those who want to understand boxing heart...is boxing heart.... not only boxing heart, but think of the conditioning, godoys core, and legs must be unbelievable, as he was prepared to go 15 rounds going downn so low.. not only that but joe louis in the first fight had not a clue what to expect and had to just show up and deal with this guy. these old fighters deserve massive respect. it was proper toughness...not like today which is more about dodging fighters...and drugs...and studying in depth tapes.

'Keep your chin down, your hands up, and keep punching. " Rocky Marciano Godoy ducks into Joe's uppercuts the way Frazier did against Foreman's. Marciano crouched like Arturo but also came in from one side with relentless combinations coming up from below. He wasn't just smothering Louis firepower by crowding but got inside to launch his own artillery.

It would have been real interesting if Marciano had met Joe Louis in Joe's prime. While watching this fight I kept thinking of Marciano. The tactics of Godoy are pretty similar to Marciano but not as effective in this fight once Joe figured him out and employed counter measures to neutralize his crouching style.

@@MrHuPow differences between Rocky and Godoy is many aside from the crouch Rocky had lead foot forward not squared up like a wrestler he also lead with his fists not his face 2 Rocky hit allot harder and threw more than 1 or 2 punches and hold unless he was in trouble Godoy seems to be happy wrestling 3 Rocky had far better defense 4 Rockys footwork was better and 5 Rocky was one of the best in fighters ever so was Joe which is why he did the job here

@@sorshiaemms5959 "Rocky had better defense" Listen to 6:40 Godoy hadn't been even knocked down in 70 fights. Rocky was floored by 40 year old light heavyweights. I'd say their defense was comparable. I'd pick Godoy to beat 33 year old Charles, and 40 year olds Walcott and Moore, like Rocky did. Both great fighters.

It's very weird lunatics who think word's can make fighters from a old era as advanced as guys in newer ones, and as if video of fighter's from era's like 90s-now doesn't show fighters way more advanced its so many crazy idiots online It's sad video on my page compares a '80s Leonard to his last match, and he advanced alot, so if he knew he had to advance to compete it is obvious all the other '80s guys would need to he seen the advances, let's say he did start fighting in late 90s srl would advance 3-4 times and probably retire mid 2000s If srl tried to fight a guy with his mid-00s style with a guy from 10 years ago he would be destroyed cause fighters have become way more advanced from the last 10 years I really think these lunatics are either saying odd stuff from seeing other Lunatics say stuff to, they seen other's make comments but they never were responded to, their looking for attention so speak to me cause their bored, or they are getting paid

@@EXPOSEDBYGABRIELPEREZ Honestly, Godoy got outpointed in the first fight and only survived because he only clinched and didn't fight to win, just to survive. Rocky would fight to win, and that means punching, and that means openings that Louis would quickly capitalize on. And seeing how Louis is vastly more skilled and faster than Rocky, he is the one who's counters are going to be landing more often.

@@Pedro_Le_Chef Agreed in part but remember Rocky was not easy to hit on the chin. Yes, you can cut him and swollen his face, but always will have the punchers' chance in theory Louis could win by tko in 8 rounds. But i always will give Rocky the chance to land that devastating right hand.
