I'm in the process of building a 21' bass boat. My first from scratch build. Man your video has already been a huge benefit in reinforcing my thoughts on the proper way to turn plate into a boat. On a safe alternative to most of your skill saw cuts, I have been using a 4 1/2" Rockwell circular saw. It does a great job and doesn't try so hard to cut off an arm or leg. Great craftsmanship!!

Thanks for saying that. I had a very experienced boat builder teach me the basics years ago and I’m a sponge when someone with experience is willing share their knowledge. Good luck on your build! I’ve been wanting to build a 28’-30’ twin outboard Pugel Sound boat for years...someday 😊

friends only show up when its lake ready. you know that. i do all my builds on the floor on a wooden frame and screw in a few supports to hold it but its worth waiting to get a friend to help.

i also run the 212 and its best to set the machine in the "autoset" mode to the wire size your running. for spoolgunning aluminum you can run a .010 bigger tip than the wire size if you have issuse with tips sticking. the wire actually swells before it sprays and if you run you nozzle tight to the weld like you should youll get the wire to bond to the tip. there is also a knob inside the 200sg gun that can increase drive roll pressure. for .125 5052 aluminum i typically run my autoset on .035 and my heat on 6 and my gun feed on 2.75 if im concerned about exterior blisters ill drop heat to a 5.

damn us kiwis and the metric system ! The Skookum kit isn't offered by Wattcraft in NZ (RSRcecraft being the USA agent for Wattscraft) I wonder what the unique feature of it is? Great to see this being built single handed though, as I am planning on doing this...

"Meat saw" What did you use to make that storge area cut? Nice work.
@JollyRoger9074 жыл бұрын
Just connected the pre-cut speaker openings to the main opening with tangent lines, then cut with the meat-saw & trimmed with a die grinder. Quick, easy cut!

@@chrisstack849 sorry, no a “meat saw” is what I call my air angle grinder modified to run a 4” carbide-tipped blade. Not for the faint of heart lol...it’s dangerous! Pics of it in video day 1

Do you think someone could make the hull themselves or is it worth just buying the kit?
@JollyRoger9074 жыл бұрын
It all depends on your fabricating & welding experience. I wouldn’t suggest if you’ve never welded or have minimal fab experience. But if you’re a decent welder and know a little about how aluminum behaves I’d say go for it. Buying a welded-out hull might be your best option.
@R1Kyle3 жыл бұрын
I would say no to that first experiment as there is a fair bit of knowledge that goes into geometry that works. Sure you could fuse metal together but good brands have spent a fair bit of time getting geometry that works. Doesn't porpoise or bow hunt badly in chop, gets up on plain quick but does not jump out of the water. Besides buying kits from a reputable manufacturer gives you lots of past experience and help if they are a good one. Plus they buy in bulk both metal and cutting so they often pass some of that savings on to you!

Did you mig or TIG this?
@JollyRoger9073 жыл бұрын
The boat itself is 90% MiG welded, minus welding the tunnel into the transom.

The meat saw is an Angle air grinder with a 4” aluminum cutting blade on it. It’s dangerous as hell but super useful!
