The bishop in my present timeline time travels back in time in an ill-fated attempt to assassinate my king only to be undone by my queen as she travels back in time alongside the bishop to stop his assassination attempt. Then the enemy king travels to an alternate dimension to avoid a checkmate which creates a parallel present timeline as well as there being 2 kings enemy kings in 1 board. everytime Anna asks if the piece is actually potentially in two places at once like quantum chess the answer is actually no, the piece that moves through time, dimensions or both is now only in the new timeline it has moved to and left the original one, so for example in 9:40 Dan does not have a board with 3 queens, but a board with no queen, a board with 1 and a board with 2 (one of which is the queen that moved through the 3 universes)

Regular Chess moves two-dimensionally on a flat board in a single linear unalterable timeline. 5D Chess moves three-dimensionally on a 4D board on multiple timelines. Basically, imagine a chess piece with the whole xyz axis available, but instead of just moving in space, it also moves across time. And replace the flat board of squares with a box filled with cubes.

Haven't watched the whole video so they might figure this out in the video, but the reason why they could play only on some of the boards is that you can only have created as many additional timelines as your opponent plus one. Any additional timelines become inactive.
@ergon17984 жыл бұрын
Or at least your opponent doesn't have to play on them.
@stewartb10194 жыл бұрын
The inactive timelines system results in the single most insane strategy in the game; creating inactive timelines with all your kings, so that you don't have any kings on active boards. Once you figure that one out, the game kind of loses it's appeal.

14:14 The reason is that you can only create one more valid timeline then your opponent at any given time. If you make more they'll stay inactive till your opponent makes a new timeline. You *can* make a move on any board where it's your turn. But only active timelines influences where the present is. And you're only required to make moves on boards that's currently in the present, not boards in the future or past.

He actually misplayed the queen move the second time back in time or could have had 3 queens and a pretty high advantage from then onwards. Especially with kings entering a different dimension. Also, the game fails miserably at visually explaining what's going on. Because the way pieces can move also matters. You _can't_ just move a queen to any position on a previous board at all. It has to follow movement through the other dimensions, which is actually fixed (just, the queen happens to have a lot of moves it can make).
@PHeMoX4 жыл бұрын
Also, you _can_ jump back in time twice in a row. But _afterwards_ you can no longer do it until your opponent catches up jumping back in time an equal amount of times (max 2 times).
@angelmendez-rivera351 Жыл бұрын
Yes, this is my one huge complaint of this game: the producers avoided putting any type of tools to help the player visualize what is happening. In particular, turns and timelines should have coordinates labelling them, just as squares in an individual board do, so that one can actually numericall understand how the movement works.

They still don't realize that you can't move pieces on boards that have already advanced. I'm pretty sure the only way to get out of a check on a king on a board that has advanced, which means there is an arrow coming out from it directly to the right, would be to capture the piece attacking it or push the present back. And finally, if the "Submit Move" button is fading green and gray, you don't need to make any more moves before submitting. Also, you should try some of the variations such as the one with unicorns or the small variant.

Anna. So I was playing a simple-noqueens, and my king got checkmated by a bishop, so i went back in time on another board before the current time of the checkmate. I managed to gain some control on the board in the past in such a way that when this past board caught up with the checkmate, i could move a piece across dimensions and take the piece that was checkmating me.
@Wilker_uwu3 жыл бұрын
funny thing is that i actually thought saw the move from the beginning of that move (see @47:30). Qe4 down 1 dimension (i.e the first future board below the threatening board. but then i became confused as to how would that not be considered a checkmate already, because what is actually happening is that the queen is doing a double attack on the first board and across dimensions which you were pondering the thole round. now the next step is to figure out how to get a piece to defend the king in the threatening dimension, because as the queen there went away and it's not your turn there anymore, only one of the future boards can get material to defend now. think you can figure out?

@Luredreier3 жыл бұрын
21:33 I don't think it's about being the Queens move. Rather there's a diagonal through the dimensions to any spot that the queen can hit in the current point in time towards the past. So the queen can go to its current position in the past at any time as long as there's no pieces in that spot between that time and now because that's a direct line for the queen. But it can also move to the spots a king could move in that spot in the last move. And the move before that there's a circle around the spot where the queen is two squares away that it can go to. Then two moves in the past you can send the queen 3 squares away but not 2 squares away etc, because this is all a diagonal through to time.
