4:30 it bothers me that he brushed this off because it's actually good advice if you're in the front - you're more likely to get coins in first place but the game also tries to avoid giving you dupes, so holding onto a coin basically guarantees you'll find a banana or a shell in your next item block, which you can then use to block red shells and keep your lead. Having a coin on hand also lets you instantly replenish two if you get hit by something, so it's a waste to just use it immediately when you're already at 10 coins because you're likely just gonna find another coin in the next box as well

coins are effective to hold onto especially in first. a- you can only have 10 coins at one time that's your max speed boost, holding onto a coin if you get hit you can regain two points of your speed boost immediately as opposed to having collect them manually b- yes it does guarantee the player a defensive item the next box, you do have to time protection different bc you have to play the coin first ofc c- it also protects your second item from a boo, sucks to be the guy in 10th to just get a coin.
