Can I just say that, visually, this looks like the VR group project I made in college (I study game design) and was extremely embarrassed about. Like, this is the kinda shit you never mention to your friends, but you put it in your portfolio anyway because you got nothing else to show. And no, we didn't have a 15 billion dollar budget, but we probably did have the same "who gives a fuck, this is gonna suck anyway" mindset as the Metaverse devs had.

Generally when you find yourself falling victim to a long running joke you can do two things: embrace it and play into it, like the bands Laibach and Rammstein have with people frequently mistaking them for fascists, or ignore it, as is usually the case. Zuck, being the absolute void of charisma and competence that he is, is trying to do both simultaneously and thus failing extremely hard at both.

That particular program/world/whatever is doing spectacularly badly, about as badly as it's possible for a "social" app of its type to do, while being utterly outclassed by things like VRChat (which is free) in every way. On top of that, there's the fact that people are totally used to the now traditional "likes" system used basically everywhere now. I suspect many will be totally baffled and appalled by the idea that they have to pay actual money JUST to give likes in this setting, when absolutely every other service/site/whatever doesnt have such a stupid concept in it. This whole thing is an example of one of these companies finally overstaying their welcome, during a time when people are slowly getting more and more fed up with this type of nonsense. And all this taking place in a space only accessible by a technology that most cannot use yet! What a ridiculous idea. Here's hoping that it continues to fail.

Coming from someone who's been deep in both recroom and horizons creator community's, recroom acts way more corporate. Honestly the metaverse is not done at all but if you're in the community you can see how quickly it's developing. So right now not the most marketable thing ever but coming from someone who's been in the vr space for 5 years it's the only game making a push and starting to make progress. Only if you've levelled up in the hunting skill tree should you venture into uncharted PVE areas. I'd suggest starting with adopting a cat or a dog, or something like that if you want an animal friend, just make sure you've grinded enough coin to afford the food and other pet related items required. Also be wary, sometimes you can get bad RNG and your pet needs to go to the vet which will cost an annoying amount of in-game currency.

There's no doubt about it. People think these giant corporations can't fail, but they can. They always have, and Meta will be no different. Zuck has obviously been insulating himself from the real world, and if his employees plan to stick around, they have no choice but to jump on board, which gives Zuck the illusion that people actually want this garbage. They're already crumbling from within, and it's just a matter of time before Facebook, Instagram and the Metaverse fall out of favor with entire generations.

this is called 'horizon worlds', meta named their company after the concept of a metaverse. nvidia also have a product called omniverse, which is also based on the concept of a metaverse. if in the future some competing product exists that houses nvidia's omniverse tech, then that product should hypothetically work seamlessly with any and every other products made within the same framework. that wold be a 'metverse' only after one or more competing products share the same underlying tech and can seamlessly be transitioned between. so to put this concept into perspective it would be like 'horizon worlds', linking to Vr Chat rooms, or rec room instances, and it all just works. all the avatars work, all the custom music/sound files/animations work, everything. BUT only if their underlying technology supports it. However those three I mentioned will definitely never support this cross compatibility. but if any new stuff made using omniverse were to try to support other onmiverse products, then they should hypothetically be an metaverse of a sort. but that would be wholly distinct from vr chat.

@@cobalius I've seen some people talk about Meta andA lot of people think the reason they renamed themselves Meta and went all in on Horizon was to create a virtual space where they could spy on you as much as they want. collect more data about you then you know about yourself, and then sell it with no one able to stop them. Right now other companies like apple and microsoft are starting to apply restrictions to facebook's ability to treat it's customers like a product and it's cutting into their profits. Metaverse is an attempt to make a platform fully under their control from the foundation. Which is why we shouldn't just laugh at the Metaverse but aggresively reject it because we seriously can't let facebook gain that kind of power.

I have heard of MetaVerse maybe one or two years ago. Initially I thought it is something they are working on now in order to release in maybe 5 to 10 years. I didnt know they have been working on it for quite a long time and it was already released. It looks like some sort of embarassing Wii-Textures. This is like some early 2000-stuff. I cant believe they have realized this. Who would want to spend time and money in there instead of RL? I have seen a documentary where they sais Metaverse is supposed to be the next bing thing and companies are already buying shops and stuff so that people can shop prada and stuff in the metaverse. They even sold property for like a million or something. Who the heck spends to much money for non existent things? Why would I buy I house in a virtual reality which doesnt serve any purpose? I seriously dont get it. I feel like Zuck is trying to trick us all... this is so embarrasing...seriously.
