I love rhythm games (as a pretty casual player, though, not anyone especially great, but I've spent a fair amount of time mainlining OSU! and am now enjoying the heck out of Muse Dash) and for a self-professed person with no rhythm I'm always impressed by how well he ends up doing every time he tries a new one. Honestly, looking at Project Diva's interface is making my head hurt - and while I'm sure the game is pretty fun once you've made sense of it it'd taken me some getting used to. And yet here RT is, flubbing his way through some Stage Clears on his very first playthrough. :D Rhythm or not, his adaptative skills truly are a thing of beauty ^^ love to see it!

Man, it's so strange to think back to my childhood when Vocaloid was a strange little corner of the internet that barely anybody knew about. Same here, I've been listening to vocaloid daily since I was 11! I was lucky to have friends who loved it too (they introduced me to it in fact, and we're going to Miku Expo together in May for our first vocaloid concert!) but it always made me really sad how the other people around me didn't understand and hated it. I miss the style and variety of old vocaloid, but we still get plenty of bangers today and I love seeing people discover it with a more open mind.

3:32 Not sure if chat answered this, but there is technically no standard for what a "Hatsune Miku" MV looks like. You could buy her voicebank and then take a video of yourself twirling to her singing "SUBSCRIBE" over and over again for the duration of it and it would be a Vocaloid/Miku MV. The reason why she was in space is beacause like you said, alien. the song is about an alien falling in love.

Actually I probably shouldn't double dip on comments but I figure I should explain Miku for the uninitiated. - Miku's a vocal synthesizer. Essentially this means people can buy a program that allows them to use Miku's voice in their songs. The best way I can explain it is if you were to use a fancy TTS as vocals in a song. - There actually are Miku concerts you can attend! There's 2 big ones named Miku Expo and Magical Mirai. There's no guy going ham on the tambourine sadly. If you've seen any Splatoon live concerts, it's essentially like that. - The 5 other characters featured in this game are KAITO (Blue), MEIKO (Red), Megurine Luka (Pink), and Kagamine Rin & Len (Yellow.) Len and Rin are my favorites. - Disappearance of Hatsune Miku and Intense Voice of Hatsune Miku are very (in)famous for their fast speed and vocals. Rolling Girl was created by wowaka, a highly respected producer who sadly passed away around 2019. (Edit: Fixed the date, thank you replies.) - I am VERY normal about Vocaloid and Hatsune Miku, if you're curious. Also you can read 39 as either san kyuu (thank you) or mi ku, which is why it shows up a lot in relation to Miku.

In case chat failed to explain: Miku is a really popular vocaloid. A vocaloid is a voice bank that people use to create music! Basically a real person records all the sounds used in their language and when strung together they make words! Miku has the most variety in types of voice banks making her extremely Versatile. Also because she’s only a mascot for a voice bank, she can be used to tell whatever story you want! The Leek is a fanbase thing. Also Miku is god, the juice song, Levan polka, a lot of vocaloid lore is really fandom stuff made canon by Sega. ... I'm guessing World Is Mine was a chat suggestion as well and I for one am glad we ended on that! Doesn't mean much coming from me, since my vocaloid knowledge is pretty basic and fragmentar;y but it's always been one of my favourite Miku songs - it pulls so much fun stuff with its rhythm progression, and both the lyrics and the way they are processed are doing a lot in having Miku be expressive. Maybe not the most weighty or meaningful track in the Miku canon but it's so dang playful, I love it.

for people wondering how tf theres so many miku songs, basically miku is a voice you can use, and literally thousands of independent creators have made miku songs. In fact, you yourself could make one and monetize it if you wanted to. The other characters in the game are other voices you can use. These are all known as vocaloids. There are other voice software you could use with their own characters but they have all kind of been named voicaloids as a generic term. Theres a whole ass voicloid genre of music you can find online. all made by independent creators so you can find wildly different types of music.

Some bits of Miku "lore" for those who want it! Keep in mind I'm not _huge_ into Vocaloid, I just have a few friends who like it more than I. Hatsune Miku is, of course, a mascot for a digital voicebank. Basically, she's a musical instrument with a face. As such, there is no "official" story for her, nor personality or anything. People use her likeness (and other Vocaloids') in music video because she's basically a pre-made character to use in the story they try to tell with their songs. This also makes her an excellent virtual idol! (This might seem obvious to some, but to those who know nothing of Miku this is some crucial info. Lord knows this took me a while to figure out!) She is often pictured with a leek because of one extremely early internet meme: Leekspin. Ievan polkka is an old finnish song, and in 2006, a Flash animation of a character from the anime Bleach spinning a leek set to this song was posted on Livejournal, and became viral. Later, someone made a Miku cover of the song, paired with an animation of a chibi version of her spinning a leek, and it also became viral. So now, Miku and leeks are inextricably tied. The tutorial song in this game is in fact Ievan polkka. The ever-present tambourine is not a Miku thing, it's a rhythm game thing. It's a very common sound cue to confirm a key press. You can usually change it in the settings. RT saying that he doesn't think Miku survived the Rolling Girl video clip hits different when you know what the lyrics are about... 39 Music's title (and honestly, whole concept) is based on a very cute Japanese pun. 39 is pronounced sankyuu, which sounds like thank you, but can also be read as Miku! That's also why that number comes up in a lot of other songs, and why March 9th is Miku Day. This game features other popular Vocaloids! There's Meiko (the red short-haired girl) and Kaito (the blue guy), who were part of the first generation of Vocaloids (meaning they're older than Miku!). There's also Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len (the yellow twins) and Megurine Luka (the pink-haired girl) who all debuted in the second generation of Vocaloids, the same as Miku. The explanation for 1/6 - out of the gravity - is accurate. The producer himself said so in an interview. Immediately quitting out after the first few seconds of Disappearance is a big mood. I'm surprised no one asked for Magnet to be played, that one's a classic. Not to mention all of the fanart it spawned. My favorite Vocaloid is Kamui Gakupo. He's a purple dude with a samurai motif. He is not in this game.

In the bridge he sings about how she’s too hard on herself and he gives her a while Lily flower to cheer her up. So anyway we both go home from school and the next day he hands me a little white Lily flower and a handwritten love confession and we’ve been together ever since. I never knew I needed Dan starting _Disappearance of Hatsune Miku,_ listening for 3 seconds, and then preemptively calling it quits.

Me, as someone who loves Vocaloids and mainly listens to it, is super happy that you have tried and played the game! And I'm very surprised how many notes you have actually hit at "the intense voice of miku" xD

"What's the most difficult thing I can find? The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku." Oh no. I played that at a Chunithm cabinet recently because it's one of the songs I know and I knew it was hard to sign but I was straight up out of breath trying to play it. EditL 19:36 ok yeah that was probaby a good choice

Oh, I know the lore for Miku and leeks! In her first hit Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru, she mentions the word "negi" which translates to leek (It's in the video at 9:37). Because of that, the Japanese fanbase decided that she likes leeks. Later on, someone took the song from the old Leekspin meme (Loituma) and redid the vocals with Miku. It might have caught on more than the original Leekspin... Since then, leeks have just been a part of the lore for her.

This stream was very interesting from someone who has been listening to vocaloid for a long time. The vocaloid or voice synth rabbit hole is not to be underestimated. There is so much a lot of us could tell you about each and every of these songs and how much they mean to us. Sadly this game needs to keep the music videos more tame, as some of the ones you have played have really dark undertones or topics. Thank you Dan for trying this game out and I hope that your hand has recovered well!
