COOP is CO-OP, CO-OPerative. A very common business model own by consumers who own shares of the business. Each individual can only own one share. Company share holders vote a board to run the company. Share holders receive dividend payment from business profit also a percentage of bonus payment from the total amount of purchase from the shop.
I live in Lausanne, Coop is the most expensive one alongside with Globus. If you visit Lidl or Aldi, price is better. Also it is wrong to compare Switzerland with UK. Switzerland Supermarkt cashier basic salary also like chf4000 something, which is mid class in UK

You need to include people’s salary and rent to make meaningful comparison. Just comparing the prices is meaningless.

Economy statistics have multiple views, like Core or Core with some items excluded, for this exact reason. On the other hand, prices on food is often the most intuitive way for people to feel the living cost of a place.
@@Yoyo-py2jr Switzerland doesn't have an official capital. "Bern" is the de-facto (in effect but not formally recognized) capital and is referred to as the federal city. It is home to the president and the federal palace, which serves as the seat of the government and the parliament. Switzerland doesn't have a capital, because the Cantons didn't want to make one city more important than others. Thus, they called the city with the parliament "Bundesstadt" or "federal city" instead. On the other hand, the financial capital of Switzerland is "Zurich" not in "Bern" !
