A Hard Days Night (English Version) is their first masterpiece.

Rubber soul was the first LP I had ever purchased. The beginning of the end of the Beatles.

I agree Michael, “Run for Your Life” is so much catchier than John, or anyone else would admit too. As a young lad not only was I startled by the line “I’d rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man” (only to find out later it was taken word for word from John idol Elvis Presley) but I thought it a great closer for the record. A little rocker mixed with inner rage. Something John would perfect later on. Thank Michael!

Hey Michael loved the video this is favorite Beatles album however I prefer the Capitol version because the of it’s overall sound it just flows better in my opinion. Have you done a comparison of the UK and US Capitol albums I’m interested in knowing your views on it thanks.

There’s a narrative out there that Paul wrote the bridge of Norwegian Wood because apparently Paul takes the lead melody on the bridge and John sings the harmony lending credence to the theory that Paul wrote it. Great video by the way

I sing or hum Norwegian out in the woods. Extraordinary melody. Haunting and timeless. Michael you have this diamond down to the shine. Only complaint: damned American version stripped of those other Brit gemz again.

John did not claim total authorship of In My Life. He said he wrote the words and Paul wrote the melody to the “middle 8” even though it doesn’t have one. So John was basically saying Paul wrote part of the melody.

Thanks Michael ! Very insightful review! This may very well be the best Beatles album - all things considered. The quality of the songwriting throughout, the performances & input of ALL the Beatles & the togetherness as a band. I still rank it No. 3 though - even though Abbey Road & Sgt. Pepper were not recorded with the same "togetherness" as a band. Tiger.

Absolutely! For me it’s a close call between Rubber Soul or Revolver! Both are truly great LPs, but I’d choose Rubber Soul due to John and Paul’s near equal output! Starting with their next album, Paul starts to dominate just a bit! Not that this was a bad thing. As I’ve brought up before, there was always a Beatle willing to step up to the plate when needed!

@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine both great lps...i always considered revolver a stronger mccartney effort but rubber soul was Lennons baby...but growing up I had the american lps.. The British ones change things alot

@@senseichess8688 Amen to that! My thoughts exactly! When I became aware of the British versions, it changed my whole outlook on their albums! Especial Revolver!

@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine It's close, no bad song in either album. IMHO Revolver is miles ahead of RubberSoul in maturity and overall sound.

Rubber Soul, to me, announced to the music business that albums would be strong from start to end. Instead of 1 hit song and the rest filler songs.

Rubber Soul is in my opinion the best Beatles album, bar none. It was the first Beatles album where the songwriting was truly great. As great as Rubber Soul is it isn't flawless. On the U.K. release the song "What Goes On" is included (thankfully not on the U.S. Capitol edition). In my opinion it is a dreadful song and why it is included on an otherwise amazing album is inexcusable. Lennon had said it was a throwaway song that probably never would have seen the light of day but they needed the obligatory Ringo number. The song sounds like a bad demo and its only saving grace is Harrison's guitar fills. The other song I've never cared for on Rubber Soul is "Run For Your Life", a truly morbid song. Lennon copped the idea from Elvis Presley's "Baby, Let's Play House". Lennon would later admit that he didn't like the song and I can understand why.
